As with many animal rescues in today’s environment, Vegas Shepherd Rescue has not been able to accommodate all the rehoming applications for German Shepherds, Dutch Shepherds, and Belgian Malinois dog breeds. Unfortunately, the nonprofit is closing its doors after 11 years of finding new homes for these working breed dogs. However, through a new partnership with Nevada SPCA Life-Saving Shelter, these working breeds will continue to be saved!

Working dog breeds such as German Shepherds, Belgian Malinois, and Rottweilers often require additional effort to find new homes due to their energy level and inherent desire to perform tasks, unlike companion dogs. Now, Vegas Shepherd Rescue’s work can live on through this new partnership and the support of certified trainers and Vegas Valley Schutzhund Club. They will work with these harder-to-place dogs at Nevada SPCA and offer additional resources, guidance, and education to potential adopters to ensure the right fit.

“While I’m sad to end more than a decade of working with our own rescue, I am excited and grateful to continue the VSR legacy through our new partnership with Nevada SPCA”, said Julie Pyle, co-founder of Vegas Shepherd Rescue.

“So many working breed dogs are turned into our shelter weekly because their owners were not prepared for the level of activity of those breeds, and we are looking forward to the new support from Vegas Shepherd Rescue to help these beautiful dogs find the right homes sooner,” said Lori Heeren, Nevada SPCA Executive Director.
