Mushing is a competitive sport. We're not going to be 100% transparent on everything that we do.

Come fall training with us!

Every dog has their own harness as they're all shaped differently.

The "gangline" has a bunch of working parts:
- The center line or main line, is the line down the middle with connecting sections. We can add or subtract entire sections of gangline depending on the team size.
- Tug line, is attached to the main line and attaches to the dog harness. This is what the dogs pull.
- Neck line, is attached to the main line and keeps the dogs close to the center line maximizing forward movement and can assist if a dog falls down.
- Leader coupler, keeps the leaders close together offering support.

Sled Dog positions:
- Lead dogs, steer and lead the team down the trail usually dogs up front.
- Point, or Swing dogs are behind the leaders and are usually back up lead dogs or leaders in training.
- Team dogs, are dogs in the middle who can zone out and just run and pull.
- Wheel dogs, are dogs closest to the sled or ATV and help steer the sled around corners.

During the fall, we work on DOG TRAINING not fitness or miles. Your team needs to be running smooth and reassessed from last season before you get on the sled where you have less control.

People often ask, how long does it take to train a sled dog? Well, technically you're training them their entire lives. We're always learning from each other.

But what they're really asking is, how long does it take to get them to run in harness?

That all depends on the dog. Some dogs figure it out right away before we leave the chute. Some take a 1/2 mile, 2 miles, etc. Some dogs take WEEKS! We like to have them out in the yard before they run in harness so they learn what a collar feels like and they learn how to get untangled. We've had the most success starting them in harness at 7 months old. We do not put pressure on them during the development period it needs to be fun and safe. That usually lasts 18 months. We don't like to race dogs under 2 years old unless they're a phenomenal beast. Sanctioned races do not allow any dogs under 18 months to compete. This is a good thing.

We have a handful of tricks in our pockets to get dogs moving forward and are always open to dealing with new cases.

Every dog learns at their own pace. It's important to be patient and help them develop in a positive way.

We've never had a dog that didn't want to do it. They all come from world champion bloodlines and continue to get better through selective breeding. Track records are broken every single year.

When you're a professional musher, only 10-15% of your dogs will ever see the inside of a Vet Clinic.

Maybe they're friends?

Sissy caught a ruffed grouse in the front yard today. She's doing good as an LGD so I let her eat it.

It's like a reward.

There's quite a few missing from this image and some are incorrect, but you get the idea. I'm always amazed at how many people still cannot tell the difference between a wolf and a coyote.

On a related note, there's many different types of Huskies too!
