Such a great reminder! I even needed this

Right. A gentle reality check for January brains.

Your horse has had two weeks off over Christmas.
You feel guilty.
You’re convinced they’ve lost all their muscle.
Your brain is telling you that you’re basically back to square one.

Pause.

They are horses. Not fitness influencers.

They do not care if they have missed schooling.
They are not spiralling about topline.
They are not lying in the field thinking, “Well that’s my season ruined.”

What they care about is this: Are they fed.
Are they warm enough.
Are they safe.
Are they allowed to be horses.

Two weeks off does not undo years of care.
Muscle memory exists. Bodies adapt. Horses are designed to cope with far more than a quiet December.

The pressure you feel right now is human pressure, not equine need.

You do not need to rush.
You do not need to punish yourself with a “restart from zero” mindset.
You do not need to prove anything in January.

Start where you are.
Do what you realistically have the time and energy for.
Let winter be winter.

Your horse is fine.
You’re allowed to be too.

We can’t forget the big mamba! Mandy. She will be Tayas English horse this year but right now she is enjoying her light workload, days outside and winter weight! lol!

This perfectly explains Re*****on… wait til the end

He is literally a giant toddler in an equine body

It’s always fun to see any animals response to the first snowfall, but what’s really fun is seeing older horses from the south that have never experienced the white stuff. So here is our southern belle Beth… acting like a northern pro. Re*****on gave us a hell of a better show his first snowfall.

And what you don’t hear our gunshots from hunters behind the farm. Now, this could all change once the snow gets kneehigh, but I’m pretty impressed with what a good girl she was.

The girls of Willow Creek wish you all a happy thanksgiving beauties!!! And it’s also very cold out

Happy birthday to the matriarch and backbone of this farm. She’s the one who keeps it running smoothly, has our equine friends nutrition dialed in. And has the eye of a hawk.

We love you so very much

Yesterday was a spectacular lesson day. Not for reasons one might think.

The ride wasn’t pretty. But the lessons were beautiful.

Young inexperienced horses I feel will tattle on you. They are learning their jobs. Looking to you for ques, guidence, and more. If youre not on your game, they get confused on what you are asking them to do.

Most Older seasoned horses know their job and are probably more forgiving if you’re not on your A game. They may throw themselves into their gate or do it half heartedly. But they generally know their jobs. It might not be pretty but it’s something.

Yesterday T jumped on Beth. She’s ridden this mare beautifully in the past. Beth is still learning and is very green. We are taking the slower path to progress which is awesome.
Most wouldn’t throw a kid on one at this stage but I trust this horse and the kid is a hell of a hand.

Well yesterday T was “off”. We’ve endured more loss in the last 4 weeks than most have in years. So I knew she was flat. Well Beth told the truth.
She was super for me, but T got on and well… it wasn’t the prettiest ride she’s had.
Couldn’t get her to lope. Everything was just sloppy. (I understand tho) I could see Taya getting upset but I wasn’t. I said Taya… this horse will teach you a lot. Dont get mad. Get right. Guide her. Help her. She doesn’t know everything just yet.

Beth made T hold herself accountable and T HAD to admit her shortcomings and NOT BLAME the horse.

The horse, though confused on why this cutie wasnt riding her like usual, never lost her composure. Never got antsy or pissy. Confused. Yes. Rightfully so.

T, very frustrated with herself, understood the lessons she learned. And said she just didn’t have her head in it, but couldn’t point out exacty what it was. She admitted she wasnt all on board.

There are days I step off a horse and say to them… well, today is on me. You did the best you could but I’m struggling (if it be physical, my mindset, or if s**ts just not clicking and i have to go back to the drawing board.)
Im glad the kid is learning this quality.

Accountability.
It’s one of the most IMPORTANT characteristics and qualities someone should hold.

It’s lost these days.
I hear more people blame other things rather than own their own s**t.

It’s not about the ribbons. It’s about the lessons. The skillsets. The work ethic.
Yesterday was roses all in itself
