Precious Pets Homecare & Organic Gourmet Dog Treats Reliable pet sitting, overnight care & a full menu of delicious, Non-GMO, healthy dog treats. Wheat, soy, dairy, grain, whey, yeast and corn free!

This page is to keep consumers updated on my products, ingredient health benefits and food/treat recalls (as I'm informed) with a dash of humor :-)

Your dog will LOVE these woofalicious GRAIN-FREE gourmet treats! All treats are made with organic, humane ingredients & are handmade to order with fresh vegetarian ingredients, no preservatives, no added sugar or salt. While some grains are safe and

beneficial, grain-free is in high demand which is why I recently decided to make my treats grain-free (unless labeled). Dogs have trouble digesting some grains, mostly whole wheat, as they lack the digestive enzyme (amylase) in their salivary gland needed to break down complex grains/carbs before entering their stomachs, which is why they develop food intolerance's and allergies to these common foods. Dogs do produce amylase, but is produced in the small intestine (further down the digestive tract). Included symptoms of food allergies are rashes, dry skin, itchy paws, excessive gas, diarrhea and vomiting. Flours used are a blend of organic coconut, almond, green pea and/or garbanzo bean (chick pea) flour which is the healthiest for dogs. Unsweetened organic coconut milk is used in place of dairy milk, as most dogs are lactose intolerant. Eggs are locally farm fresh, purchased from a local farm. Eggs are from my chickens who are humanely raised & never slaughtered. Herbs, vegetables, milled flax seed, carob chips and raw carob powder are also organic. Mint, lavender, bell peppers, strawberries, raspberries, peas, carrots, blueberries, zucchini & spinach are all organically grown fresh in my garden when in season. Food coloring & dyes for icings are made naturally from foods such as coconut yogurt, raw carob powder, organic fruits, organic vegetables and/or spices. First cold pressed extra virgin olive oil & unrefined organic extra virgin coconut oil is used in place of butter or margarine. Since the start of my business in 2003, I've done extensive research on ingredients that are beneficial, healthy, safe & suitable for dogs. Since then, I have made several ingredient changes. For example, I no longer use dairy, wheat, soy, yeast, margarine, raisins or honey in any of my products. In addition, I NEVER use any artificial flavors, coloring's or preservatives in my products. Over the years, I've learned from my mistakes. I'm always learning from the latest research, as to the healthiest ingredient choices for your beloved pets. Many marketed dog treats use sugar or forms of sugar, such as honey in their treats. Honey is OK if it is raw (no sugar added) but I've decided to rid of it all together, as dogs truly do not need sweetness added. Several dog owners do not understand how bad sugar is for dogs. Not only is it extremely difficult for them to digest but it is terrible for their teeth and leads to diabetes! Most commercialized dog foods/treats along with a lot of small online and in-store dog bakeries are LOADED with sugar and preservatives. Many pet owners automatically reach for the "eye candy" treats (the ones colorfully decorated with icings online & at the pet store), which is why it upsets me when I see other "gourmet dog treat" companies using the phrase "gourmet". Using any sugar or dairy based icing is NOT good for your dog, not to mention the common use of wheat & soy flour, which most dogs are highly allergic to! Please be aware of what you're putting into your precious pooch. A lot of those other treats may look pretty but they are not doing your dog any justice health-wise! Remember no one is arguing the need for sterilization, it's the surgical technique that should be reevaluated. Hysterectomy and vasectomy achieve the same goal but leave important hormones intact according to science.

"The association between gonadectomy and timing of gonadectomy, and the risk of canine cranial cruciate ligament disease: A systematic review and meta-analysis

Abstract
Objective - To determine if gonadectomy in dogs is associated with the risk of cranial cruciate ligament disease (CrCLD) and to quantify the magnitude of the association.

Study design - Systematic review and meta-analysis.

Sample population - Comparative studies with gonadectomized and entire dogs, with CrCLD as an outcome measure.

Methods - A systematic search of the primary and gray literature was performed. The effect size of the outcome measure was defined as the OR and 95% CI. Subgroup analysis was performed with s*x, breed, and age at gonadectomy. A pooled OR (95% CI) was generated from meta-analysis of relevant studies. Certainty in the body of evidence was rated with the Grading of Recommendations Assessment, Development and Evaluation (GRADE) framework.

Results - The literature search yielded 1398 results and 24 relevant studies were included for synthesis. Gonadectomized female (pooled OR = 2.293, 95% CI = 1.768–2.945) and male (pooled OR = 2.117, 95% CI = 1.665–2.691) dogs were both at increased odds of developing CrCLD in comparison with entire female and male dogs, respectively. Subgroup analysis showed that gonadectomy at 1 year or less was consistently associated with an increase in odds of developing CrCLD in both s*xes. Overall certainty in the evidence was rated as moderate. All included studies were observational and no controlled trials were available.

Conclusion - In data with moderate certainty, gonadectomy is associated with increased odds of developing CrCLD in both s*xes, particularly in dogs gonadectomized at 1 year of age or less.

Clinical significance - This study provides an estimate of the true effect size of gonadectomy on the odds of developing CrCLD, which may be useful for clinical decision making surrounding gonadectomy and the timing of gonadectomy."
