Making sure we are prepared for the holidays includes making sure our dogs are comfortable. Check out the new blog post about preparing for the holiday festivities with your dog!

It’s the most wonderful time of the year, between all the delicious food, the visitors, and holiday cheer. This season is bursting at the seams with excitement, energy and let’s be real, stress. The holidays are over stimulating for the majority of us, and this includes our dogs. There are a lot...

Stay cool my friends. Here is a list of some things I have been doing and will continue to do throughout the heatwave we are experiencing.

1) multiple bowls of cool water for the dogs, I will randomly add ice to the bowl to decrease the temperature
2) fans with cold towels over top (cheap way to cool down a room for a bit)
3) cooling jackets/bandanas and beds are on my dogs. If you do not have access to these, use a towel and soak it with cold water then wring it out. You can drape them over their back or use them as a bed. Do this once every hour or so when the towel warms up
4) if you have access to a basement or somewhere cooler, spend your time there.
5) if you have a pool, sprinkler or any other way to hang out in cold water - donut (preferably during off hours like before 10 a.m. or after 5 p.m. when the temperature isn't as hot and the UV isn't as dangerous)
6) fill a bathtub with cold water and cue your dog to go in (or coax them with praise and treats)
7) frozen Kong's, ice cube treats, freezing treats to help cool off

And remember:
Short periods outside (potty breaks), don't allow your dog to stay outside unattended or for long periods (unless there is shade and fresh water available).

Do not leave your dog in a car, even with all the windows down it will heat up quickly. It's HOT outside and in a car, it'll heat up very quickly.

Water must be available at all times

If your dog starts to exhibit any of the signs from the graphic above. Call a vet immediately! Best exhaustion can turn into heat stroke quickly and it can be fatal (4 dogs have passed away in Vancouver yesterday)

Companies that join in on pride capitalism is overall, problematic. Although, seeing as I've always had that beautiful rainbow in my logo, I am more than happy to parade my page and company as a safe space for many marginalized communities, including the LGBTQ2S+

Here at For Dogs Sake YYC, we want you to feel safe and comfortable in your skin both when working with us and in every other aspect of life.

Happy Pride ❤️👏
