So excited to share this with you!!

We can finally share the amazing feature story that debuted at the American Humane Hero Dog Awards’ Gala this January about Louisville’s own Tri Like Penny! At the Gala, Penny hopped down the red carpet, and was officially presented with her first-place award as the “Emerging Hero and Shelter Dog” winner.

We could not be prouder of Penny or of the love she brings to the world despite the horrific abuse that she endured. This beautiful dog never gave up and just needed some help from her friends to heal and become who Penny was always meant to be.

Her Arrow Fund adopters, Lindsey and Dustin, have always seen the good that she was capable of, and have invested so much time and energy into allowing Penny to shine.
🌟🌟🌟

We thank them profusely for the life and love they have given Penny. We thank them for sharing her love with others. ❤️

On Easter Sunday of 2019, a small, blonde, male dog was found on the side of a rural road
in Kentucky. He was alive but unconscious, with horrific, open wounds. After he was
surrendered to a smaller animal hospital that couldn’t help him, The Arrow Fund was
called and rushed him to Blue Pearl, where he was found to have deep body bruising, a
broken pelvis, a mangled leg, and life-threatening abdominal bleeding. The destroyed leg couldn’t be saved in surgery, and had to be amputated. With so much to overcome, the vets were not certain that he would live.

He was given the name Pascal, which is Latin for Easter, and, despite steep odds, he did
begin to heal and regain strength. He learned to get along just fine on three legs, and found
an amazing adopter through The Arrow Fund who helped him heal in spirit, as well as body.
Pascal has been loved dearly by her for five years.

We are reaching out again with Pascal’s story because this boy needs our help once more,
dear Arrow Fund family.

His adopter was diagnosed with a rapidly-progressing form of lung cancer that now forces her to make other plans for her sweet Pascal. She reached out to us to make sure this boy who has overcome so much already gets all the love he deserves in the right home—she asked that he go to someone who will love him just as much as she has.

“He’s such a good boy,” she wept. “He’s so sweet, and truly loves everyone he meets.”

She said he gets along well with other dogs, is up-to-date on his vaccinations, is neutered,
has no problem with mobility on three legs, and loves to cuddle and burrow under the
covers.

Please allow him to snuggle with his back against you as he sleeps, she asked.

He should feel the love. ❤️

Do you have love for this amazing boy who desperately needs someone to count on again?

Do you have it in your heart to be his forever person?

Please reach out with any questions or inquiries about providing a forever home for Pascal.

The Arrow Fund is truly honored to be one of the local rescues that PG&Js Dog Park Bar has loyally supported since their opening, four years ago.

We had so much fun today at their 4th Birthday Bash! “I truly cannot express how nice they are there, and their energy is invigorating!” said Thom Ham, Exec. Dir. of The Arrow Fund. It is always a joy to see so many happy, healthy dogs there.

The ongoing mission of is to help animals in the Louisville area, and a portion of every dollar spent there goes back directly to our community to help animals in need.

Thanks again to PG&Js Dog Park Bar for everything you do! 🐾 💜 🐾

Goodbye, dear Karma. Rest well. You were deeply loved.

Karma’s story is pivotal in the history of The Arrow Fund, and perhaps truly represents one of the reasons why this rescue organization was founded, how it grew, and why our mission is still one full of hope.

In 2012, a white trash bag was tossed from a car. When a witness investigated by tearing open the plastic, they were shocked to discover eyes belonging to a tiny creature inside—filthy, with brown-matted fur crawling with fleas and parasites, and barely breathing. The small animal was so weak it couldn’t even attempt to free itself from the tightly-tied bag.

The dog was rushed to an emergency vet hospital, and The Arrow Fund was called to provide support. The small male was named Karma, his body was badly bruised, he had suffered trauma to his eyes, and X-rays revealed that his pelvis had been broken in two places. Karma was stabilized, and treated for broken bones, parasites, and infections. After he was cleaned thoroughly, his washed fur revealed him to be a snowy-white Maltese.

This frail, gentle animal had been horrifically abused at the hands of a cruel human, and then discarded as useless trash. The Arrow Fund was determined that Karma would know only gentle hands and loving hearts from that day forward. With the support of our Arrow Fund family, Karma recovered in the hospital and with amazing fosters, and when he was finally ready for a family, Donna and Mike adopted him as a treasured member of their own family. Despite long-term issues caused by the extreme neglect and abuse, Karma thrived under the blanket of Donna and Mike’s love. He lived an amazing, happy life with his canine siblings for the next 11 years.

Over those years, Karma represented The Arrow Fund’s mission through various TV appearances; traveled to our state capital to stand up for other animal victims in Kentucky; and became a registered therapy dog, bringing joy to many at the airport, nursing homes, and special events. Karma was even named the 2024 King of our Mardi Gras Pawty.

“We were the luckiest ever to be chosen to adopt him and care for him,” Donna wrote. He loved to go camping and ride in the stroller or wagon. He happily wore sunglasses or hats to protect his eyes. His favorite things were mealtime and bedtime. He loved to be right by my side,” she continued. “Everyone loved him so much. I know his sisters met him this morning and he is running free in no pain now.” In her goodbye, Donna wrote, “I’m gonna miss that little tongue hanging out the side of his mouth and that precious little face so much. Another little piece of my heart has left us.”

Karma’s story, which began covered in darkness and with such cruelty, grew into something bright and beautiful, drawing others to his light through the power of love and care. Rest in peace, Karma.

After 16 years of loving her sweet, smart, beautiful, long-haired dachshund named Hattie, Katie Di**le was heartbroken to say her final goodbye to Hattie as she crossed the Rainbow Bridge in early 2023.

Research shows that grieving the death of our companion animals can be just as painful as grieving the loss of a family member or friend. The death of a pet can be a truly traumatic experience, and create a large void in our hearts and lives. According to “Psychology Today,” grief has no timeline, no boundaries, and no wrong or right path—it is a very personal process.

As a way to help process her own grief and memorialize her beautiful dog, Hattie, Katie decided that she would create a specific fund for The Arrow Fund.

With support from her husband Scott, friends, and co-workers at Astra Zeneca Pharmaceuticals, “Hattie’s Fund” has now raised more than $13,000 to help The Arrow Fund fulfill its mission to rescue, rehabilitate, and rehome animal victims of extreme torture, abuse, or neglect.

“Hattie’s Fund” has been a blessing for so many animals in our care, and we want to express our gratitude to Katie and all who created something so loving out of grief and a desire to honor and memorialize sweet Hattie, who provided unconditional love her whole life.

These are some of Katie's words about Hattie:

“After spending her first 3 months of life with her 5 puppy sisters, her next 3 weeks were spent with 120 sorority sisters at the Indiana University ZTA sorority house. For such short legs, she was very well-traveled, having visited 11 states! With her short legs, Hattie could run like the wind, and finished 12th out of 120 dogs in the Fort Wayne, Indiana, Weiner Dog Race! In the last couple of years for Hattie, her age began to provide her with challenges, including canine dementia. On February 4, 2023, we had to say good bye to our sweet girl as she crossed the rainbow bridge and became our angel.”

The Arrow Fund is so honored by the generosity of those remembering Hattie in such an impactful way.

Last January, The Arrow Fund was called to help rescue a hound that had been abandoned in extreme temperatures. He was starving and each step was painful, as his paws were raw from frostbite. We made sure Spencer received the healing help he needed, and he is now with an adopter who loves him.

Please bring all pets inside during these frigid, cold temps and the icy conditions that are predicted for our region.

Our friends at Kentucky Animal Action remind us:

“Gov. Beshear just declared a state of emergency. The predictions of ice and snow are unusually intense for our area. If you notice an animal without proper shelter and provisions please notify your local animal control officers and if you’re in Jefferson Co., you can call 911 per ordinance 91 below.”

So happy to share this great story about Penny—our very own “Emerging Hero and Shelter Dog” winner in the American Humane Hero Dog Awards—and Lindsey, the amazing person who fell in love with Penny and became her Arrow Fund foster and adopter!!

Thank you, The Columbus Republic newspaper, for sharing such an inspiring duo!!

Tri Like Penny 🐶❤️

Never did Columbus native Lindsey Peetz think that fostering a dog would eventually lead her to appearing on the Kelly Clarkson Show, but her rescue dog Penny’s story of recovery and resilience is one to be told on a national level.
