Division Street staff are having a very silly morning.
Video from the WHS farm taken earlier this week. Marvelous Miss Mabel and goats Beckett, Vinny and Hank are starting to hang out around one another...probably sharing some gossip and stories of their travels. ❤

An update from the Marvelous Miss Mabel and WHS Farm Facility. After only 8 days at the WHS farm, Mabel is doing GREAT! She is starting to trust people and will eat apples and bananas from staff/volunteers hands. She is still cautious but very curious.
WE LOVE HER SO MUCH!!
For those asking, we don't need any apple donations at this time, but donations made via our website are always appreciated to help cover costs for daily operations at our farm facility. Thanks to everyone for their continued interest in this sweet cow. We are so glad she is safe, dry, happy and now, very, very loved!

Meet Samba!
Are you looking for a dogs-dog? A companion for your furry friend? Look no further!
Samba is a young female shepherd who came to the shelter as a stray so we're not really sure what her life looked like previously, but we do know she has lots of love to give and is eager to become the best dog she can be! While Samba is a bit of a nervous lady, she truly blossoms around other dogs! She is a play group rock star, and typically is the first out and the last to come in! A home with another dog to help show her the ropes would be great. Introductions to new people and things should be taken very slowly and at her own pace. Samba has done wonderful in Canine Good Citizen and continued training classes will be extremely helpful in growing her confidence and forming a bond with her new person. Samba is still young and has tons of potential to grow into an awesome lifelong adventure buddy for the right person.
Visit Whatcom Humane Society Tuesday thru Sunday 11am - 6pm to learn more about Samba or submit and application at www.whatcomhumane.org.
Mabel the cow update . . . check out this sweet short moovie filmed by our amazing farm caretaker Kami taken yesterday at the WHS farm facility. Slowly but surely the Marvelous Miss Mabel is learning that people are not so scary . . . especially if they have a bowl full of apples, grain and molasses. This sweet girl is being so brave. We already love her and can't wait to see her progress.

Mabel Is Safe!
WE GOT HER! MABEL IS SAFE!
She was successfully contained and transported to our farm facility late Friday night.
More details in the coming days but needless to say this rescue was possible thanks to a village of people. We look forward to sharing this story and thanking those involved. But for now, the staff and volunteer team involved in tonight's activities are tired and headed to bed for a well deserved rest - made all the better knowing Mabel is safe and dry tonight. ❤🐂
Happy day for the last juvenile Eastern Gray Squirrels of the season at our wildlife rehabilitation center. They were released back into the wild. ❤
The black squirrels in this group are a melanistic subgroup of the Eastern Gray Squirrel, but they are the same species. It is still unknown as to why there is a larger population of melanistic Eastern Gray Squirrels in Whatcom County as well as the Southern area of British Columbia.

Fall may be in the air . . . but shelter dog Daisy is still feeling summertime vibes! She and her shelter volunteer bff Todd recently took a shelter field trip to Sunset Pond, where Daisy had a case of the zoomies! She and Todd then took a hike before returning to the shelter. Daisy is a young female Shepherd mix who is sweet, smart and full of energy. She is enrolled in our shelter canine good citizen class and is doing very well. She would love a new home that can invest in her future and provide her with a lifetime of love.
Visit Daisy at the Whatcom Humane Society. Our kennels are open Tuesday thru Sunday 11am - 6pm. For more info, visit www.whatcomhumane.org.
Shelter dog Clark (young male pittie/cuddlebug) says TWO PAWS UP & THANKS to the generous community member that dropped off some super pawsome heavy duty plushy dog toys. Clark's weekend plans include destroying these toys in his kennel while he patiently waits for his forever home to come find him!! Good to have life goals!!
Clark arrived to WHS with a limp. Xrays showed nothing broken, but some bone chips ... AND ... a pellet or bb lodged in his front shoulder. Ouch! As you can see, this does not slow him down at all . . . and this big, handsome pup is ready for adventure and a new home to call his own. www.whatcomhumane.org
UPDATE: Our friends at Alternative Humane Societyare taking Milk into their wonderful foster based program. Contact them directly for more info.
Milk, a HIGH ENERGY 2 year old male Lab is still at the shelter and still waiting for his forever home. He and WHS volunteer rockstar Todd took had an off-site outing yesterday that included a trip to the lake for some doggone great fun.
Milk is looking for a home that can provide stability, love, training patience to his life. Milk is the type of dog we'd equate to a frat boy 🙂 Life is one big adventure! His manners are . . . well, let's just say a work in progress - and his personal space awareness with people and other dogs is zero . . . although thanks to the work our volunteers and staff have been putting into him, he is improving greatly.
Milk has one speed - 100% all the time and very strong, so an active home with strong, super active people would be ideal. Hiking, running, swimming, playing fetch for hours (don't expect him to bring the ball back).
Positive, reward based training will be mandatory for this silly boy to help him learn manners, boundaries and get off on the right paw with his new home.
If you'd like to meet Milk, visit Whatcom Humane Society Tuesday thru Sunday 11am - 6pm or submit an application via our website www.whatcomhumane.org
