For those of us who have fought for an end to the brutal dog meat trade, this news is unprecedented and an answered prayer. The South Korea parliament finally passes a bill banning the dog meat trade. This bill would ban breeding, slaughtering and selling dogs for their meat. It was passed unanimously by a 208-0 vote. It will come into effect following a three-year grace period. Dog meat has been part of Korean cuisine for year on end and over a million dogs per year are slaughtered. Dogs were considered no different than livestock, but consumption has sharply declined recently as many S. Koreans have embraced pet ownership This ban has been introduced many times over the years, but got the support it needed due to the current President Yoon Suk Yeol and his wife First Lady Kim Keon-hee who themselves have adopted stray dogs and cats. Under the law, breeding, selling and slaughtering dogs for their meat will be punishable by up to three years in prison or 30 million won ($23,000) in fines. As much as we want this to end right now, it’s just simply not realistic as about 1,100 dog meat farms still exist in S. Korea. The new law will provide compensation so that businesses can move out of the trade. The country’s current animal protection law is intended mainly to prevent the cruel slaughter of dogs and cats, but does not ban consumption itself. Over the years the AHWF has rescued over 1000 dogs from S. Korea, bull dozed and destroyed dog meat farms; and even helped dog farmers give up the trade and start a new business. A drop in the bucket we know, but each life is precious, isn’t it? We can only hope that this sets a strong precedence for the rest of the countries where the DCMT thrives. Cat-family has been rescued!

Guys, in the last video, I showed you the cat-family whom I saw at the pet market. The situation was critical but thanks to you guys for helping! The credit goes to you for saving them from being ruined.
Well, with your support, I bought them and took to home! They're in safe hands and as you can see, the mama cat and kittens are surprised to be in this new environment. They're comfortable in here. I fed the mama cat with a nutritious meal so she can feed her kittens. They were so hungry and don't know since when!
I'd like to sincerely thank the people who have donated and saved the lives of these beautiful souls. God bless you!

Miami Seaquarium’s dolphins were allegedly starved in a deliberate attempt to force the animals to perform better. What they got instead were multiple aggressive incidents against trainers, and even members of the public.

NOW, MORE THAN EVER, WE URGENTLY NEED YOUR HELP IN ASKING THE CITY OF MIAMI TO CANCEL MIAMI SEAQUARIUM’S LEASE.

And, here’s why:

This new inspection report by the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) released on October 21 and written in July 2022, along with a previous inspection report written in June 2021 allegedly show that:
-- diets for nine out of 12 dolphins at Dolphin Harbor were cut by a staggering 60%,
-- Star, a 23 year-old female dolphin went from being fed approximately 12 pounds of food daily to four pounds daily. Aries, a 20 year-old male dolphin went from being fed 13 pounds of food daily to three pounds daily,
-- the dolphins became emaciated, with prominent muscle wasting and palpable scapula and ribs,
-- gastrointestinal abnormalities amongst the dolphins began taking place, including multiple instances of excessive regurgitation.

The problems didn’t end there.

The USDA report identified multiple aggressive incidents involving the dolphins at Dolphin Harbor, when a dolphin “mouthed” a member of the public during an in-water interaction. Records show that the animals exhibited warning behaviors prior to mouthing such as sinking after performing behaviors, swimming over the ledge of the pools without specific direction to do so, fast swimming, terminating control (refusing to participate) during sessions, ignoring signals for behaviors and splitting from the session.

Despite these concerning events, the Miami Seaquarium allegedly failed to provide direct and frequent communications regarding their animal health and well-being to the attending veterinarian. The facility also apparently failed to handle their animals in a manner that minimized the risk of harm to the public and continued guest interactions even when dolphins were demonstrating aggressive behaviors earlier in training sessions. 💔According to Eclipse’s page, Eclipse was recently diagnosed with cancer and passed away in her sleep on Friday morning.

Eclipse started riding the bus in 2015, where she took the bus downtown to the dog park, making friends and getting exercise, before taking the bus back home.

According to her owner, Eclipse’s human companion, Jeff Young, once took too long finishing a cigarette, and Eclipse hopped on the bus without him, a routine she learned from her usual outings.

Young said Eclipse would ride the three to four stops on the D-Line on her own and always knew where to get off.

Here's an interesting clip for today!

I was walking past a parking lot and heard a kitten meowing. The feeble meows led me to check under many cars. It took me minutes before my eyes caught the attention of this newborn kitten. He was near a car's tyre - crying for his mom. I checked if she or any other newborn is there. I waited a lot but then decided to take him home as he was unsafe there. I've a cat named Lara at home. She has recently given birth to babies who've been adopted by some relatives. Thought she might feed him, I brought him close to her and the reaction was just unbelievable. She cleaned him and fed too. She's taking good care of him!

Brian, Nick, AJ, Howie, and Kevin. Pups + BSB. All Adorable, right? All of us at NHA are still in awe that this introduction happened, and we are so excited to share the news with you! Last week, when BSB was in town, these pups were invited to visit them AND HELP them with a special production shoot. As you can see from the photos in this post, the experience was Larger Than Life for all involved! We are so grateful for this superstardom support towards raising adoption awareness for some adorable 9–10-week-old shepherd mix shelter pups!⁠

Now it's time to quit playing games with these puppers’ hearts and show them the meaning of NOT being lonely. So as long as you promise to love them, with the exception of AJ and Howie, who will be available for adoption later this week, all Backstreet's Pups are available to ADOPT when we open tomorrow, Tuesday, September 13, at 10 am.
