Daisy RIP 5/19/26 🏇🌈

I knew coming back from FL yesterday that we would probably have to do this. We had the vet appt set to see if there was anything we could do for her. She had a rotated coffin bone and severe laminitis. Greg and Dalton soaked her foot 2x a day and gave her pain rx while I was gone. She had been getting better. But they said she took a turn over the weekend. I got back Monday evening and spent some time with Daisy. She was limping around and putting a little weight on her foot. Today she was not even wanting to do that. I stayed with her all morning until the appt and xrays were taken and a decision was made. My very sweet Daisy is now healed and running in the pasture along with Birdy.

Backstory

She came from auction and was emaciated. They said she was 13 and a thoroughbred. Her tattoo told us she was 23 and had raced several times early on. Not a big winner. I knew she would never be ridden again and had planned to fatten her up and let her enjoy life with friends. I had her just over 2 months and she was the sweetest girl. While I didn’t have her as long as I had hoped. And she didn’t gain as much weight as I wanted. She still had 2 months of loving, food, friends, and food. She didn’t starve here. I’m so glad I stopped her from hitting slaughter and out of the auction circuit. It hurts to say goodbye. But knowing she is in a better place and was given a chance to gracefully go over the rainbow 🌈 helps my heart. A huge shout out to my vet and all the people who work there. They are the best and show so much compassion and caring.

Hey, this is Cappy! I do not have a virtual angel parent yet. Won't you please adopt me? It's only $25 month. See below to sign up now! THANK YOU! Love, Cappy

HAPPY NEW YEAR!
Carley’s Angels welcomes its newest and last intake for 2025. Welcome to the family, little Cappuccino (Cappy).

Cappy was abandoned in a rural area, when a Good Samaritan rescued him. With no microchip, no family looking for him, the rescuers reached out to us for help. Although the rescue is short on funds and homes and closed for intake, our recently passed Mr. Bubz, worked his heavenly magic and convinced us to take in Cappy. Bubz said “Don’t worry. The funds will come in to care for him. Please give my empty spot to Cappy.” So, with a leap of faith, we said yes! And Cappy was saved and given a home just in time for Christmas.

Now that Cappy’s journey has begun, we must address the financial issues to maintain him. First and foremost, Cappy must have a virtual adopter. These virtual adoptions provide for the cost of annual well pet care. For a $25 per month recurring donation ($300 yr), we are able to provide Cappy with annual vaccinations/rabies, HW prevention/testing, and a full physical each year.

Although our little Cappy has other health issues that will require surgeries in the near future, that will be addressed later with a separate one-time fundraiser so stay tuned.

For now, won’t one of our wonderful community supporters consider giving Cappuccino the gift of good health with your pledge to be his virtual adoption angel? All you need to do is click on the link below, put $25 in the donation amount and then check the box making it a recurring monthly donation. Cappy, Mr. Bubz, and the entire Carley’s Angels family thanks you!

Thank you all and especially, Beth Scott, who agreed to take another Carley’s Angel into her home and love and spoil them always. It will truly be a happy New Year for Cappy. Thank you for making his dreams come true.

I have been putting off this post until I wouldn’t add a bunch of four letter words. Here goes:

One week ago today, Dalton called me and told me Birdy was down and couldn’t get back up. Birdy was the 18yo Belgium mare that I recently got from auction. She had just had a c**t taken off her nd was severely emaciated. She was so sweet and absolutely beautiful, even with all her bones showing. I am so mad at the people who had her before they took her to auction. She should never have gotten as bad as she was and to have a baby on her who would take all her nourishment. Birdy was a stunner and we estimated 6-12 months before she would gain the 4-500 lbs and be at full weight. I couldn’t wait to see her grow stronger. When we first got her home she had that look in her eyes that she had given up. Over the days her eyes were starting to look hopeful and was always happy to see a human. She loved being brushed, pet and just hugged on. She was only here a week when she went down. She was so weak she couldn’t get back up. But she had enough want in her she kept trying. Thankful for having the best neighbors who not only know horses but dropped everything on a Sunday to come help us. Kay Rascoe Speights and her hubby Bill, Stormy Sigler Langley and her hubby Perry, Greg, and Dalton Rochelle and myself started working together to get her up. With the help,of the tractor and heavy duty straps we were finally able to get her standing. She drank water and ate a little still being supported by the tractor. I was so optimistic that everything was going to be ok. She actually had her back end supporting itself with only the front strap still holding her up. After a while we let the tractor down about 1/2 inch. Just enough that the strap was still touching her but not holding her up. She tried to move her front legs and they couldn’t support her and she started to go down again and hit hard. I knew this was it. She had no energy left and couldn’t support her weight. She looked defeated. Instead of having her suffer, with the help of my vet, I decided it was time to let her go and not suffer any longer. On Sunday, November 23, 2025, one week after we brought her home, Birdy crossed the rainbow bridge and is now able to stand on her own and run in the pasture in heaven.

Unfortunately, this is how people treat their horses. When they are done with them they take them to auction to get rid of them. A lot of them are in really bad shape and go to a trader who will take them to another auction and then finally end up being shipped to Mexico for about $1 a lb to be butchered.

Birdy was not going to be one of those being shipped to Mexico. While I didn’t have long with her, while I did, I showed her love and compassion. Fed her slowly to get her used to food again. She hadnt had any feed in at least 2 weeks. Only hay at the auction house. Birdy crossed over with her dignity. I just wish I had more time to help her get her strength back.

I know I have rambled on. I just want to give her the respect that she should have had her whole life. She is here on our property where the wildflowers will grow around her.

I thought hard about not posting pictures but I think people need to see what happens to auction horse. The first picture is what the auction showed. The second picture is how we got her. Look t that beautiful girl. And the third picture is her standing w the help of wonderful neighbors and the tractor.

Run fast Birdy and know that you are loved and missed not only by me but by Spartan too. ❤️🐴🐎❤️‍🩹💔🐎
