ALLIGATOR season runs from Sept 10-30 and it will be here before you know it! With all of this year’s rain, I expect us to have lots of gators. If you want to go on a hunt with us, we have tags available for $500 each. Just like fishing, sometimes you catch big ones and sometimes you catch smaller ones. However, we do not charge additional fees for any size. $500 total cost plus you must have a valid Texas hunting license. Call us to book your trip. 50% deposit will guarantee your tag. A little FYI… the big gators provide more meat and have the trophy factor while the smaller ones are better for making belts, wallets, and shoes.

To say that we have had an abundance of rain in our area would be an understatement. It is easy to complain about the weather until I look outside and see how pretty and green the grass is. Today I choose to be thankful that Winnie Tx is not in a drought and that God has given rain to help my yard as well as my ponds. Thank you God for all that you provide!

Do you every get angry? Of course you do… we all do from time to time. It is perfectly normal to get a little hot under the collar. However, getting angry isn’t the problem… it is what you do next or how you handle your anger that matters. Maybe a few deep breathes will help, maybe you need to take time to pray about it, or maybe you need to take a long walk and cool down. As a general rule, the words and actions that occur in the middle of you being angry do not accomplish anything good. Maybe the best course of action is to forgive and carry on? Simply let it go! I can tell you from personal experience that life is better when you don’t walk around mad or ticked off at everyone and everything 😳. Make good choices and live your best life my friend.😁

Have you ever stopped to consider the difference in you needs and your wants? As I think about this, a couple of things come to mind. First, I have learned, through the years, that some of the things that I wanted were far from what I needed and in fact they weren’t even good for me. Secondly, I learned that we all have different needs. Some people need more friends than others, some need more attention, some need comfort, some healing…. The list goes on and on. What is it that you need? Even if you don’t know, God does, and His Word says that He will supply it. I can only assume that if there is something that He isn’t proving in my life, I must not need it, or He has a better plan. Trust in God’s provision my friends. He loves you! He will me ALL of your needs!

As a person who as A.D.D., my mind seems to be always racing. I need time in the outdoors to slow down, focus, relax, and think. God has met this need by giving me a place to fish close to my house where I can go out right before dark, catch a few fish, and enjoy the setting sun.

If I am being completely transparent and honest, I would tell you that contentment is something that I have struggled with through the years. I have often found myself unsatisfied with where I am at in life, what I own or don’t own, and what I have or haven’t accomplished. The Bible tells us that godliness with contentment is great gain . I ask myself how do I get there? How do I become content? Today’s Bible verses seem to point me to another “Pro Tip”. I need to realize that I can do all things through Christ who gives me strength. Whatever it is that I truly need in my life, He will provide or give me the strength to acquire. I can be content in that. Fame and fortune come and go but God’s love and the strength He provides lasts forever!

I recently bought a tiny boat but wasn’t sure I would like it after fishing in full size bass boats. It is definitely small and surely not fast but I have really enjoyed it so far. It is almost like God is using it to teach me more about being content! So far the fish don’t seem to mind that it isn’t a fancy bass rig or that it cost less than $1000 😉

How did your dog do in the winter storm?

Although I have been enjoying the 70 plus degree weather today, it was only a few days ago when the weather in our area reached the low teens and in some cases single digit temperatures. When the mercury drops this low, dogs can easily get hypothermia and even freeze to death if they aren’t kept out of the elements. Our southern dogs that aren’t used to cold weather never grow the thick winter coats like their neighbors to the north so they are extra susceptible. During this weeklong winter storm, local news channels and social media platforms made sure that everyone who had a pet was encouraged to bring them indoors.
If you were like the rest of us who followed this advice, my question for you is simple. How did your dog do? Were you pleased with his or her obedience? Would you say that having your dog indoors for an extended period of time was a blessing or a curse? If things worked out great then give thanks to The Lord. If the they didn’t, here are a few tips to help them do better next time.
First, I would encourage you to have consistent daily play time with your dog even if it never comes inside of the house. The more time you spend giving your dog attention, the stronger the bond will grow between the two of you which will likely increase your dogs desire to please.
In addition to play time, an every other day training regimen will do wonders. Take note of what your dog did poorly during the storm and work on those issues. As a professional dog trainer, I would tell you to make sure the basic obedience commands of heel, sit, stay, and come are rock solid. An obedient dog is a pleasure to be around and will cause a lot less tension in close quarters that one that is out of control.
When spending time training or playing with your dog, remember that dogs work great when using Pavlov’s theory of conditioning. It really works (you may need to study this theory a bit). To sum up this theory in as few of words as possible I would tell you that whatever behavior gets rewarded gets repeated and whatever behavior gets punished or discouraged is lessened.
When spending time with your dog always be patient and kind. You can never make your dog great in one day, but you can break his spirit in one. Stay consistent and keep your eye on the prize which is a well behaved companion that will not only mind, but offer unconditional love at the end of a rough day.
