Are you a tailgator?
Do you tail gate on the trail? Do you allow your horse to follow too closely? Watch this video to see how a little distraction (like me making a video) allowed me to put my horse and myself in a dangerous position. I knew this mare was unconfident and would kick out. I made a huge effort to stay way off of her and out of the "kick zone" but I got distracted just for a moment.
Imagine what could happen if I did not have control of my horse and allowed her to tail gate on this horse throughout the day. What if I had no control and allowed my horse to run up this horses rear over and over? More than likely one of us would have been hurt.
Many riders seem to depend on the horse in front of them to stop or control their horse. As a responsible trail rider you should maintain control over your horse at all times. Not having control can get you, your horse or someone else injured. Don't be a Tailgator.

Can you handle your horse on the ground safely?

Recently is has been brought to our attention that many folks seem to struggle with their horses on the ground and are not be able to handle/lead their horses on the ground safely & confidently. This is a vital part of being a trail rider.
You should be able to dismount safely and lead your horse through, over or around any obstacle on the trail without it being a stressful or a major issue for you or the horse. There are many reasons that this could become necessary and being unable to lead your horse could cause you or someone else issues.

Maintaining control of your horse in any situation is vital for the safety of you both. If your horse is dragging you or running you over when simply leading it there is a major issue with your communication. If you are struggling with this type of activity we can help you at one of our many Horsemanship Clinics.

Horsemanship is not ALL about just riding. It is about being able to communicate with your horse SAFELY & CONFIDENTLY from the ground or in the saddle.

Weather is looking great for next week. August 15th-18th join us for private lesson sessions at the Southern 8ths in Chesterfield, SC. Come for the weekend. Early morning and late evening lesson sessions with trail riding and we may do a little night riding for fun. Got to keep working on developing those Trustworthy Trail Horses. We are planning to have a special photographer on site to capture some awesome photos during the weekend. Fees: $350.00 includes stall, rv hook up and 2 private lesson sessions on the topic of your choice. These will be 45 min to 1 hr sessions. We will also have a few extras (demos, liberty games) included. Trails open to ride all weekend. Early wednesday arrival is also an option. This will be a small group and we will do some dinners out.

Finally! Our Registration is NOW OPEN for the 2025 Spring Excursion to Tombstone, Arizona.
April 3rd-19th with a meet up in Arkansas. Join us for a fun adventure and do it all with your own horse. Information has gone out to all of those that sent us an e-mail for pre-registration so be sure to check your e-mail. This is limited to a small group so be sure to reserve your spot soon.

Big news!! August 15th-18th we are planning to have private lesson sessions at the Southern 8ths in Chesterfield, SC. Come for the weekend. We still have a few spots for our PPE Cattle Working Clinic September 5th-8th, 2024 in Chesterfield, SC. Amazing location with many amenities. The clinic is for any breed or age of horse. Great to introduce your horse to cattle or get a little more time developing those cow skills. You get a lot of cattle time and we work them in more open environments and not just in a round pen. We all so enjoyed the first stop in Nebraska on our Equine Excursion. Our group saw amazing views, rode fun trails and even had a couple of rattle snake encounters along the way. Fun with Horses and PPE. :)
