Hi I just wanted to share how we feed our geckos, we breed so we have a lot and no one ever turns down what we offer in case anyone was having issues. What we use ⬇️

Pangea Watermelon
Pangea Gecko Treat (this helps with picky eaters)
BPZ Orginal Crested Gecko Diet
Canned insects

We blend this all together to make sure there’s no clumps of anything. As far as the insects I do this because it insures the extra protein, as some of our geckos refuse to eat live. You can use crickets like we do, but if you want to add extra calcium (I do this for my females) you can use BSFL (black soldier fly larva), and for extra fat to help add weight use wax worms or silk worms.

If you do crickets or BSFL, tractor supply has them canned in the chicken section and you get a lot more for cheaper than what you would at a pet store.

I hope this helps someone who might be struggling, we’ve had Cresties for 8+ years and have been breeding for 2 almost 3, and this has yet to be refused by any of our babies

More often than not the leopard geckos surrendered to HoP are underweight. Tonight I had two geckos surrendered and one is the fattest leopard gecko I’ve ever seen. I don’t know what they were feeding it, but I’d suspect small children. A diet is most definitely in order for this one. 🥴

The second one is a tad overweight. Both seem healthy otherwise and are super active! Name suggestions are needed!

This is Shirley Temple, a female leopard gecko who was surrendered this week. She was a former class pet who was being surrendered because “they just get new ones every year.” Turns out Shirley is actually the third gecko we’ve gotten from this school in the last few years, and the others have been small and in poor shape with fatty liver disease from improper diets.

We don’t know how old Shirley Temple is but she is fairly small. We’re going to slowly switch her to a lower fat diet and try some liver supplements, and hopefully she can live a long, normal life.

Pets are not disposable, no matter if they’re in a home or classroom. Leopard geckos can live 20+ years and we already have such an overpopulation of them. We have talked to the school and hopefully they will stop purchasing live animals for their classrooms. Animals deserve better.

These stunning geckos originate from New Caledonia and have the same care requirements as a Crested Gecko or Gargoyle Gecko.

Exotic Case of the Day 🩺

Eye Surgery on a Gecko 🦎

Loki, a 3-year old Leopard Gecko presented for bilateral eye abscess. Owner reported eye problem observed for over a month already. Total loss of the eye ball on right side and inflammation on left. Unfortunately, we need to remove the infected eye on the right 🥲. Surgery done under gas guided anesthesia.

Why Do Leopard Geckos Have Eye Issues?

Leopard geckos' eyes are large in proportion to the size of their heads. This is one reason why they tend to get things stuck in their eyes, develop abscesses or infections, and generally have more ocular problems than other animals. Otherwise, they may have congenital issues or some aspect of their diet or environment may be lacking.

It's important that you're able to recognize a developing eye problem in your gecko so that you can provide the appropriate care and understand when to contact your exotics vet for help.

Making this post out of desperation because I don’t know what to do🥹

I have a leapord gecko that I’ve had for over 2 years now, Nebula, and she has done really well overall but here the last few months (since March) she has not been eating well (more like not at all) and has been shedding a lot more than she usually did before, but what concerns me the most is the her not eating. We have tried force feeding and the whole 9 yards but when we get the meal worm in her mouth, she just spits it back out. Her tail has shrank quite a bit in the last few months but her 💩 and everything still looks normal so I don’t think she’s sick, !mbira I can’t figure out why she won’t eat.

Also to note, she refuses to eat anything that’s NOT live and she will NOT chase crickets. Live meal worms have been the majority of her diet since I’ve had her. I have to take the legs off the tiniest crickets they had and tweezer feed them to her for her to even think about eating those.… I just recently, after some research changed her habitat lay out/look and got her a tank that was almost double the size of her old one… and that hasn’t helped either🥹

I’m still currently paying off a lot of vet bills from my cat when he got sick so I’m not trying to have to take her to the vet but I will if I have to. I’m just trying to maybe find some recommendations that I haven’t tried on here first🥹🥹 made shareable!

***edit to add yes she has heat source all day and night! These pics were taken right after I redone her cage and just had placed her back into it***

How old were your guys’ mourning geckos whenever they started laying? My two are over a year now and I still haven’t gotten any eggs. I feed and mist them every other day with repashy gecko diet and calcium covered hydei fruit flies, both have vitamin D additives. They still have plenty of food and fruit flies on the day in between feedings. They seem happy and explore and chirp at each other now.

Just curious what everyone else’s experiences with breeding timelines have been!

Hello,
After some disagreements about the food and husbandry of my leopard gecko I am looking for a group that are leopard gecko lovers, actually have leopard gecko's (and not just the books say....) and just love their gecko's as well.

I bought Nyx after wanting one of those black beauties for 3 years. She joined our family just a month ago but I am totally smitten with her.
She and I are slowly bonding while I enjoy her seeing busy/hunting or sunning.
