Seeking help to fund Awie’s mission to provide a comfy shelter for the homeless canines
Inspired by her father's love for animals especially canine, Irene (or more fondly known as Awie) has been running a dog shelter in a remote area in Selangor, Malaysia called Tanjung Karang. She has been adopting the stray canines in the vicinity. Her mission as always been giving a comfortable home as she treats them as her own children.
As her family of canine grows, Awie has been single-handedly running the animal shelter for the strays even after a battle in her marriage, which resulted to a divorce.
The animal shelter that was managed with Awie's own savings has been the home for a number of lovely dogs from all ages. They were fed and sheltered in a spacious compound that enables the canines to roam freely under her care.
It was just recently that her love and care efforts have come to a roadblock as it caused uneasiness among the villagers who lived rather miles away. Upon learning that she has been running a dog farm, the villagers have destroyed the shelter. Some of the puppies and dogs were cold-heartedly killed as well, which Awie believes it could be due to the cultural sensitivity among majority of the villagers.
