ATTENTION: Rabies Surveillance Update
In 2024, USDA Wildlife Services, and the NH Public Health Lab tested rabies positive animals from Lancaster and Berlin, making these the northern most cases in NH and raising concerns about the spread of raccoon variant rabies.
To determine the extent of the northern spread of the virus the USDA will be testing furbearers in Coos County in May/June 2025.
USDA Wildlife Services is requesting your assistance in locating strange acting and found dead furbearers from Coos County. Raccoons, skunks, foxes, bobcats, and
coyotes are primary targets, but we will test any furbearer
that was strange acting or found dead.
Wildlife Services will test any deceased animal with no human or domestic animal exposure.
If you observe or come upon any wild animal acting strange or dead, please contact the Carroll Police Department at 603-846-2200. If you live outside of Twin Mountain / Bretton Woods contact your local police department or N.H. Fish and Game.
