Teddy the Maine Coon

It has now been four months since our dear Teddy's passing. We miss him dearly every day, and he will be in our hearts forever.

Time never fully heals, but we decided that we would open our homes to a new arrival, a gift from my mum to me for my upcoming birthday. Some Maine C**n kittens became available, and we registered our interest.

Today, I returned from the house with my best friend... and TWO new arrivals!

We did not look at the two red tabbies, as we felt that this would be disrespectful to Teddy and like we were trying to replace him, which we could never do. There were two others left - a girl and a boy. We took both ❤️

They are currently hiding behind my sideboard, as new cat arrivals tend to hide for a couple of days before exploring their new surroundings. I will post more photos once they are out and about, but so far, these are the best I could get.

Meet Betty (black girl) and Bates (silver tabby boy) - half-siblings (same dad), born a week apart in April.

We promise to give them a lifetime of love.

Teddy has departed this world. He got very ill very quickly and there was nothing more that could be done. Thank you all for your love and support, and for the love you have all shown Teddy over the years. He is in no more pain now and somehow, he is still by my side.

I love you, my soul cat.

Hello, it’s Teddy here! Guess who gave Mama and the family a BIG scare?

Lizzie the vet called today, and I’m NOT leaving this plane just yet! I have high protein levels, which are making me retain fluid. My hoomans have to massage my belly and legs, and I am only allowed to eat white fish and boiled rice at the moment. I am going to see Lizzie again on Monday morning.

I have been scarfing down my food as usual, and have been happy and purring and sitting on Mama’s lap. Carrying around the fluid is a bit of a drag, but I’m still a happy, affectionate boy. I even washed Rosie’s head yesterday and she let me!

Ignore my scruffiness. I generally always look like that. I get brushed and combed every day, and I’m still a scruffbag!

Teddy’s Mama here. I have some bad news. Teddy is unwell and has been for a couple of weeks. We took him to the vet yesterday, who said to prepare ourselves. He may not be much longer for this world. We are all devastated, of course. Teddy is currently sitting on my lap, purring contentedly and happy for a cuddle, but he has not been himself the past few days. We’re not 100% sure what the problem is yet, but the vet has taken a blood sample for testing and we should know more tomorrow.

Please keep Teddy in your thoughts. I never wanted to say goodbye so soon. His 13th birthday is approaching (25th) and I would love to see him make that, but obviously not if he is in any pain or unhappy.

Please feel better, my boy.

Today is Rosie's unofficial birthday! Rosie came to us last year on 24th November. They didn't know her real birthday, so it's on her papers as today. She is 13!

Rosie LOVES Mama! She wants to go and sleep in her bed every night and spends a lot of the day with her too. It's cool, I can share Mama - most of the time these days, I'm in the bathroom with one of the others!

I have some very sad news from Teddy HQ today. My sisfur, Maddie, one of the Siamese/Bengal twins, passed away this morning. It was quite sudden and she was a month shy of her eighth birthday. We are all going to miss her, especially her twinnie Tallulah, who came to see her at the end. She was a very sweet and loving little girl, and the kitty family here have lost a lovely friend and sisfur.

Run free, Maddie. We love you.

From Live Science (07/04/23): Hidden Ptolemy text, printed beneath a Latin manuscript, deciphered after 200 years

'Researchers have deciphered an ancient manuscript that they think Claudius Ptolemy, an Egyptian mathematician and astronomer of Greek descent, penned during the first century A.D.

Written in Greek on parchment, the text was originally discovered in 1819 by Angelo Mai, a Roman Catholic cardinal and scholar of ancient texts, who found it hidden in a library at Bobbio Abbey in northern Italy.

Now, a team of researchers from Sorbonne University in Paris and New York University (NYU) has deciphered much of the mysterious text and revealed its contents. They detailed their work in a study published March 9 in the journal Archive for History of Exact Sciences(opens in new tab).'
