ASH - AVAILABLE FOR DIRECT ADOPTION

Ash is an approximately 4 year old male corn snake, who has been well cared for in his previous home and has a lovely gentle temperament – unfortunately, due to no fault of his own, he was given up to another keeper who cannot continue to care for him.
He has been kept with full spectrum lighting, which will be a prerequisite in his new home, and he will require an upgrade to his enclosure – he is currently being housed in a 3ft viv, but we would like to see him go into a minimum of a 4ft x 2ft x 2ft. His diet has consisted of XL or XXL mice, and his diet would benefit some variety. He will be rehomed without his current temporary setup, but pictures are included to provide information for potential adoptive keepers.
Ash is not housed at OSAR and remains in the care of his current keeper. We will be vetting potential homes on their behalf – if you are interested in giving him the home he deserves, have a read of our pinned post and get in touch for a chat.

STAN

Stan is another of our wonderful beardies whose adoption reservation sadly fell through recently through no fault of his own. Approximately 3 years old, Stan joined us a rather overweight young chap with seriously overgrown claws and very early signs of MBD (a slight kink to his tail). He is a big boy, with loads of personality and the sweetest temperament - he likes nothing more than to sit on your lap and get beard strokes.
Stan needs to be encouraged to exercise - treats are a great way to get him moving, BSF larvae or well gut loaded Dubia nymphs for instance make good low calorie feeders for him to chase and build up his musculature as he loses some of those extra grams. He has a new found enjoyment of greens, and currently he particularly enjoys mustard greens, bok choi and coriander as well as thinly sliced squash. He will need close attention to his supplement schedule, whilst ensuring not to over do the feeder insects. MBD in its very early stages is entirely manageable and can be prevented from progressing by maintaining proper husbandry.
He benefits from rocky surfaces in his enclosure to keep his nails trim now that they are cut to a comfy length, and he needs plenty of enrichment to keep his mind active as well as his body.
Stan is an angel, and we can't wait to see him get the home he deserves - if you think you might be the perfect person, have a read of our pinned posts and drop us a message.

BUCK

Buck is a young male bearded dragon who we estimate to be around one year old, he is active, inquisitive and independent with a great appetite for veggies and bugs alike. He is not a cuddler, and would prefer his relationship with his human to be on his own terms.
Buck had a difficult start to life, but with continued positive reinforcement, choice based handling, love and compassion he will thrive and be the happy boy we have come to see behind his occasional displays of defensiveness.
Buck would do amazingly in a large naturalistic biotope type setup or similar - he's an avid climber and requires lots of in-habitat enrichment as he's still learning to trust people again. He's made amazing progress while he's been with us, but we recommend that he would be best suited to an experienced beardie keeper.
We are looking for the right person to befriend Buck and show him that humans can be kind, gentle and forever.
If you think that you are the perfect person for this lovely young man, have a read of our pinned posts and get in touch.

GIANT AFRICAN LAND SNAILS

We are looking to find loving homes for several rescue snails, some young adults and some older juveniles, all Fulica and a mixture of albino/lemon, jade, brown/yellow etc.
All snails available for adoption are eating and growing well, and are thriving on a high protein diet, a variety of vegetables, treats of fruit and plenty of calcium in the form of cuttlebone.
Our GAL snails deserve responsible, non-breeding homes with keepers who are comfortable humanely disposing of fertilised eggs if multiple snails are to be housed together.
If you think you might be the perfect home for one or more of our beautiful GALS, have a read of our pinned posts and get in touch.

BUGS

Bugs is a beautiful, big chilled out boy, believed to be around 3 years old. He is one of the calmest, most easy going dragons we have had the pleasure of working with, despite a traumatic history, and until fairly recently he has been considered a permanent resident here at OSAR. Bugs would benefit from the comparative peace and quiet of a pet home and the opportunity to have more free roam time.
Despite his calm demeanour, he is by no means lazy - Bugs loves to watch the other animals here at the rescue, particularly the turtles, and he enjoys running about the room after insect treats. He is equally happy to sit on your lap and have a chat, and we would love to find somebody to form a special bond with him and give him the undivided attention he deserves.
His health is very good, but he does require some encouragement to eat his greens - a bug ban has been necessary a couple of times, as he was very feeder focused when he joined us. Bugs prefers to drink his water from a dropper, though he does use his bowl with an air stone added.
Bugs will be adopted with his favourite branches and accessories, as well as a full care guide. If you think you are the right person to give this gorgeous guy his ideal home, have a read of our pinned posts and get in touch.

BERTIE

Bertie is back up for adoption through no fault of his own. He is a male bearded dragon with a traumatic history, and he requires a little time to warm up to new people and show his softer side. Approximately 4 years old and full of energy, Bertie would suit an experienced beardie keeper with plenty of time to dedicate to giving him an enriching life with lots to think about and keep his mind active.
He might seem like a grumpy guy at first, but underneath it all he really is a sweetheart.
We are seeking a five star forever home for Bertie, where he will be given access to everything he needs and deserves - he is an enthusiastic worm hunter, and particularly enjoys free hunting morio worms around the room as a treat. He is an intelligent boy, enjoys puzzles and treat toys as well as exploring during free roam time. He drinks his water from a bowl and enjoys his veggies and greens, particularly dandelions and coriander. He is prone to boredom if not entertained, and he needs mental stimulation and plenty of enrichment both within and outside his enclosure to prevent destructive behaviours and glass surfing - we would love to see him afforded a large vivarium with plenty of climbing opportunities for him to exhibit his natural behaviours.
Bertie will be adopted with some of his favourite décor (he has a collection of logs which he feels very strongly about) and a full care guide will also be provided.
If you think you might be the perfect person to offer Bert a loving home, have a read of our pinned posts and get in touch.

BLAZE (RESERVED FOR ADOPTION!)

Blaze is an approximately 4 - 5 year old female leopard gecko who has been at OSAR for a long time now. Frequently overlooked in favour of more colourful or younger leos, Blaze is so deserving of a loving home to call her own.
She has an absolutely lovely personality, very calm and fond of human interaction, she is predictable and not at all skittish with a good appetite and a particular love of Dubia roaches!
Blaze was known to lay yearly prior to coming to OSAR, but has not laid whilst in our care - some experience with egg laying would be a plus in her forever home however.
Blaze is in great health, though she does have several missing toe tips which can limit her climbing ability - care should be taken to make her enclosure accessible for her so that she can still enjoy climbing safely.
She has been kept in a naturalistic enclosure both here and in her previous home, and will be adopted along with her favourite hides, branches and basking rock. We may be able to provide a vivarium as well if needed. Full care guide provided.
If you think you might be the perfect person to give Miss Blaze the home she's always dreamed of, have a read of our pinned posts and message us :)

OSAR's Adoption Policies

All adoptions through Odd Socks Animal Rescue are subject to vetting - this entails an in depth discussion about husbandry; care requirements, enclosure setup, diet, heating and lighting, your home environment, experience/research level, knowledge of the species you intend to adopt, ability to offer suitable care and access (as well as afford) specialist veterinary treatment if and when it is needed.

We are happy to work with experienced keepers and beginners alike, but we do require that all keepers be willing to research, adapt, learn, update and improve as necessary in order to offer the best possible living situation for an animal. We are all learning and developing as keepers all the time, whether you have been keeping a species for 20 years, six months or this will be your first time. We try to provide our own care guides for as many species as possible and offer ongoing support to all adoptive keepers as well.

We require photographic proof of setup before an animal is brought to your home, and we do not allow for the use of courier or shipping services - we deliver all animals to their forever homes ourselves so that we can corroborate with our own eyes the standard of housing that is being offered and complete a final home check in person.

We reserve the right to refuse to agree an adoption on any grounds pertaining to animal welfare (for more info, see our pinned post "Do Not Apply To Adopt If..."). In instances where a keeper needs additional help to get a setup spot on for an animal, we are more than happy to work with you to perfect an enclosure or help you find alternatives to any unsafe or unsuitable equipment or features of your care. It is always best to be upfront and honest with us, so we can assist, rather than to try and pull the wool over our eyes - as we simply will not leave an animal in your care if we have any doubts.

We do not, and will never, ask for money in exchange for animals. We are not a pet shop, and offering us money for an animal will not change our minds about a declined adoption. Unsuccessful applicants are more than welcome to apply again once issues have been remedied, and we are always happy to advise as to the reasons for a declined adoption and offer solutions.

We cannot share personal details of previous homes, but we will provide information necessary for the continued care and possible treatment of animals as applicable. We will also not share personal details of adoptive keepers with previous homes, unless both parties are in agreement and are involved in a direct adoption.

All adoptive keepers are required to sign an Adoption Agreement, a copy of which is kept by the keeper, and we do retain information about our adoptive keepers for the purposes of offline record keeping. You are free to ask for a copy of any information we currently hold about you any time you like.

If you become abusive or behave in any other inappropriate way as a result of a declined adoption, you will not be permitted to apply again, and your name might crop up in conversation amongst our contacts (other rescues, shops, group admins etc...).

🚫 Do Not Apply To Adopt If...
● You are looking for animals to breed or to sell.
● You are not willing or able to provide full spectrum lighting - species appropriate overhead heating and UVB provision - for all reptiles and amphibians in your care. This includes all species of snake, frog, cryptic baskers, nocturnal and crepuscular animals.
● You are not willing or able to provide at least minimum recommended enclosure sizes.
● You are wanting to give an animal as a surprise gift.
● You use and/or support the use of; reptile carpet, calci-sand, aspen bedding, "minimalist" setups for fully healthy animals, live feeding of anything other than insects, coloured bulbs etc.
● You are not willing or able to provide specialist, professional veterinary care as needed.
● You keep animals in small tubs, racks or other unsuitable housing.
● You do not have permission from your family members, house sharing adults, landlord or housing authority to keep animals in your home.
● You wish to adopt an animal for your young child.
● You wish to use a courier service to transport an animal to your address.
● You wish to adopt an animal to be a school or workplace pet.
● You are under 16 years of age and do not have the support and assistance of a responsible adult.
● You wish to cohab an animal with another of their species or of a different species. We are only happy with cohabs of community fish, some frogs and other amphibians, some colony forming inverts, some same s*x turtles and a very short list of other reptiles - e.g. mourning geckos. Cohabbing is a controversial subject for many keepers, but we have a 100% zero tolerance policy when it comes to most species commonly seen in rescue (i.e bearded dragons, leopard geckos).
● You intend to cycle switch an animals day/night cycle in order to fit them into your lifestyle.
● You allow your cat/dog to interact with your exotics or birds.
● You use heat mats inside your enclosures.
● You run heating of any sort without a thermostat.
● You impose veganism/vegetarianism/a herbivorous diet on omnivorous or carnivorous animals.
● You are unwilling to humanely dispose of any fertilised eggs (e.g. pigeons, GALS).
● You consider your pets to be a "collection" rather than members of the family.
● You are unable or unwilling to provide suitable pet sitting for your animals if and when you must be away from your home for extended periods of time - I.e. holidays, work trips, hospital stays.
● You have any animal related criminal convictions.

{Edit 04/12/23} - You DO NOT have to run bioactive setups in order to adopt through Odd Socks - there is an unsuccessful applicant spreading this misinformation at the moment, but it is false. Setups will ideally be naturalistic for fully healthy animals (safe natural substrates, climbing opportunities such as branches, use of natural materials such as stone etc) but there is absolutely no requirement for a fully bioactive setup. Many of our own setups are not bioactive. Space, safety, heat, light and enrichment are the key elements to an approved setup.

{EDIT 21/02/24} - Please message me again if I have said that I will send you a care guide, form, reply, photograph or anything else and I do not do so within 24 hours or within another timeframe I have given you. I have a neurological disorder which affects my memory. I will never think you are rude for gently reminding me.

This list will be updated over time.
If you are in any doubt as to whether a point applies to your specific situation then drop us a message and we'll be happy to help clarify.
If you do not like these rules, we're sorry, but they are absolutes.
We are always willing to help keepers get everything spot on before an adoption goes ahead, so feel free to ask for assistance if you need help finding alternatives to any of the above listed husbandry points.
