We currently only do Easter Egger chickens (ameraucanas with colors unrecognized by the american poultry association), but will hope to do more breeds eventually! We sell hatching eggs and adult chickens, but , we only sell chicks to farms, not to people who just buy chicks for their kids on Easter to put in a tiny cage, and when they grow up, they won't be wanted anymore and dumped at an animal s
helter. We also do not sell chicks the week before easter to the day after because we will be closed. Ameraucauna chickens are hardy to both cold and heat, so they make great chickens for beginning chicken owners. Sometimes, however, as with all chickens, you may get a mean rooster. The best ways to deal with him are: put a more dominant rooster in with him if you don't want to butcher him. Easter Eggers come in infinite chicken colors, from the darkest black up to the most fiery red! They lay gorgeous eggs, like pink, green, and robins egg blue. They usually have beards, but they can be clean faced. Great for 4H and fair shows, because they have a friendly demeanor, are unique, and come in so many colors! Hens average 4-5 pounds, roosters (proper term is 'C**k') average 6-7 pounds. Pullets (young hens not laying) mature in 20-25 weeks, laying brilliant eggs, cockerels(young roosters under breeding age) start crowing around 19 weeks, pathetically at first, but eventually get their song. They start chasing hens around 20-21 weeks, and get to be called roosters (or c***s). It all started with Cika Lee, a seemingly normal buff Orpington pullet. She was just like all normal chickens, but one day, she hurt her ankle. It is still of unknown cause, but the ankle was ruined and she could no longer get around well. She was babied for seven weeks in the house, and taught me many things. She was smarter than any chicken I've ever met. She came when I called her name, told me when she was hungry, had to use the bathroom, and when someone entered the room, she alerted me, and was the sweetest little gal. But in the end, she passed away, probably due to post infection or germs. The ankle never returned to normal, but it never seemed to dampen Cika or keep her from making smiles grow and hearts happy.
