💨 Spring Arrival

Spring is here and that means we will be receiving more and more calls about Baby possums & birds being orphaned and fledgling.

Possums on the ground:
If you find a possum on the ground during daylight hours, something is wrong.

If it’s a young possum please pick up the possum with a towel or beanie, place in a box and move it to a dark, warm and quiet place. You can also fill a hot water bottle (not boiling) and wrap this in layers and place next to the possum.

Fledglings are young birds that cannot fly yet, however they’re still under the care of their parents, and should not be touched.

Pouch checked:
If you’ve came across a Joey kangaroo/wallaby please do not try and care for it yourself. These critters need special formula to survive.

As soon as possible please get in contact with Wildlife Rescue either by Wildlife Victoria or by calling us directly on 0498-063-229.

Stay Snake Smart | 🐍

Spring is just around the corner so let's get snake smart!
Start preventing snakes from entering your property by:

Eliminating shelters | 🧱
» Rubbish piles.
» Wood piles. (close to home)
» Building materials such as tin, wood, bricks, blocks, rocks and debris.

Maintaining backyard | 🚜
» Keeping your grass cut short.
» Keeping water sources away from doors or by the house.
» Keeping your backyard area clean to deter rodents.

Potential entrances | 🚪
» Closing your house doors and garage doors.
» Sealing open windows or gaps in windows especially where mesh has holes in it.
» Sealing holes in flooring.
» Sealing holes in walls.
» Doggy doors.
(Leaving them open may cause a snake to enter your house!!)

Note: There is NO GUARANTEED way to stop snakes from entering your property but you can help prevent them.

Kind regards,
Benny McNamara | Snake Catcher Colac

🐍 Happy world snake day

Has an unwanted visitor slithered into your Yard?

To keep warm in winter, snakes often hide in garages, barns, wood piles and piles of rubbish.

Snakes in or near our homes can be scary, but don’t have a hissy fit!

Stay calm, keep your distance, and give it space and call a snake-catcher.

Luckily enough we have our very own snake -catcher who specialises in snake rescues.

If you’re requiring a snake removal please contact Snake Catcher Colac Page

Snakes are vital to our ecosystem and are protected in Australia. It is illegal to harm or kill them.

🦢 Lake Rescue

A swan was found entangled in fishing line by members of public at Lake purrumbete.
The line had wrapped around the head of the swan causing it to be stuck in weeds.

One of our rescuers that attended the scene was helped by locals who had a boat. The swan was successfully caught and cut free.

After inspection it was later on released back into the wild.

Well done to all involved in this much needed rescue. Please clean up your fishing line before leaving so this doesn’t occur again.
