Gah, I really really dislike no-pull harnesses, I dislike them because I don’t even think I’ve seen one fitted correctly. This lab at the dog park was walking around with an awkward stride because the harness was around the top of its legs. 👎
⚠️ Forcing a dog into a shorter/awkward stride is like you walking with smaller steps than what your body wants to, this then leads to all kinds of biomechanical issues.
This dog also didn’t even need a no-pull harness, it probably doesn’t even walk fast enough to pull and could just be on a ‘Y-front' harness or a leash and collar.
🫤 The other thing I don’t like about them is when put on pulling dogs, it pulls the far shoulder towards you, now the design is meant to be so that the dog turns around to you and you use an actual training technique but not many people do, so there are all these dogs walking on an angle with their two front legs being squished together….more biomechanical issues.

👉 𝗙𝗼𝗿 𝗵𝗮𝗹𝘁𝗶'𝘀,, in most cases, I prefer the style that clips behind the head vs under the chin to avoid any neck trauma. For any that have the lead beneath the neck, the dog must walk by your side, not out in front of you.
In most cases, dogs will find halti's annoying, following the training provided in the leaflet of the product to get your dog used to them. Training video: https://youtu.be/bORctdGVscs

I think tools are fricken amazing, whatever tool gives your dog more freedom and experiences that they don’t mind wearing is a big thumbs up from me.
Yes, my preference is for people to train their dogs but some people don’t have the funds to work with trainers or the patience or time to do it themselves.
If you do have the funds, consider working with a trainer, you’ll be so proud of your dog's ability to learn this important ability.
YouTube videos are also free - search and search until you find a technique that you’re happy with and that you think you can do.
When training a dog to walk well, it often doesn’t happen on walks, it happens in your driveway and out front of your house until they are a master at it.
Never train when you’re frustrated or had a sh*tty day at work, go watch some trashy tv together instead
If you’re in Sydney, book an apt with my trainer, she’s awesome K9 Instinct
