Another adoption and successful bonding!
Brianna was one of the rabbits rescued from our Brentwood case in January 2023. She is now adopted and has been renamed Mia.
She met her new humans and her handsome husbun Zayat at our adoption event in October. Though the courtship was not quick or easy, but we are happy to report they've worked out their differences and are now very happy together.
We applaud Mia & Zayat's humans for their dedication to the bonding process. When the going got tough, they did not give up.

Meet Kapri! Rescued from Brentwood roaming the cold streets alone at 5 weeks old. After being rescued this girl knew she was safe, warm, and going to get lots of love. She was so comfortable that she melted in her foster mom's lap for pets.
This sweetie loves attention and has energy for days! You can find her zooming around, binking and when all tired out sploots. When you sit in her pen, she will jump right into your lap for pets! For a young bun, she has displayed great litterbox skills. She has occasional accidents and some poops, majority of the time using her litter-box, for a young bun that's impressive!
This girl will brighten up anyone's day with her loving, hoppy personality. She will be a foster to adopt as she is still too young to be fixed. If you are looking for some sunshine in your life, Kapri is your girl!

Rescues are always heartbreaking for the animals and volunteers, but never in our history have we witnessed such horrible conditions and unimaginable neglect as this rescue in Brentwood, Long Island. This terrible situation could have ended even worse, but thanks to our dedicated volunteers, these rabbits have another chance at happy lives.
AARR is covering the costs of 15 spays and neuters plus the vet care for numerous afflictions including eye infections, bite wounds, mites, upper respiratory infections, GI stasis, etc.
Our fundraising goal is $3,500.
All donations, no matter the amount, help the rabbits.
THE STORY...
The word was out! Three to four rabbits were seen
roaming the streets of Brentwood, Long Island.
A group of concerned rescue volunteers visited the location three times to scope out the street where the rabbits were reported to be roaming.
Thanks to concerned neighbors, on their third trip, they finally found which house the rabbits were coming from.
The rescuers knocked on the door, feeling stressed and overwhelmed and wondering what was going to happen next.
Amazingly, the homeowners casually invited the rescuers to their backyard to see the remaining rabbits as if the conditions could ever pass for OK.
What the rescuers saw that cold, winter night in the backyard will be forever
etched in their minds.
There were multiple filthy, decrepit hutches covered by tarps. The poor rabbits were grouped by the color of their fur in these small hutches that contained endless mounds of feces.
Lifting the tarps on each of the hutches revealed further horror.
Upon lifting the first tarp, to the rescuers' horror, they discovered a poor rabbit deceased and draped over a pile of excrement. The remaining rabbits barely had space to move. Many had visible scars on their faces, ears, and eyes.

We can hardly believe it 😱 Governor Hochul signed the legislation to end the puppy mill pipeline today!!
The sale of dogs, cats, and rabbits at retail pet stores will be banned from 2024 across New York state. Governor Hochul said: "Dogs, cats and rabbits across New York deserve loving homes and humane treatment. I'm proud to sign this legislation, which will make meaningful steps to cut down on harsh treatment and protect the welfare of animals across the state."

Meet Archie, he's looking for a new home.
Archie was originally a stray running around Lynbrook Long Island in 2021 when a kind woman rescued him and contacted AARR.
He found a home in no time where he has been loved and well cared for. However we were recently notified by his adopter that Archie needs to find a new home.
His current human wrote, "I was recently diagnosed with a health condition and even though I'm physically ok, it’s started to take a toll on my mood and can be challenging to tackle regular chores. It kills me to have to do this, but I need to give up Archie. He’s been well taken care of and I’m reaching out to you before that changes. I’m very sorry."
"Archie was his pre-adoption name, but I’ve renamed him Pogo and he comes running when he hears it or the word treat. His white mittens are definitely eye-catching. He’s very friendly and approaches strangers with slight caution at first, but quickly warms up and gives lots of kisses. He was never exposed to other animals so I don’t know how well he will do with other pets. When he is in the mood he has no problem hopping on to you if you’re on the couch and looking for head rubs and will dig at you if you stop prematurely. He’s a chewer so needs plenty of toys as he free roams. He has excellent litter box skills."
We always stand by the rabbits we adopt out to ensure their safety if a home does not turn out to be forever. If you are interested in Archie, please email [email protected]
