URGENT BEDDING NEEDED 🙏

Today our beloved washing machine spun its last spin and sadly our Sydney Adoption Centre has run out of warm bedding 😞

If you have any bedding or blankets that you no longer need or are willing to purchase for us, we will ensure your kind donations are put to good use 🥰

Items can be dropped off at our Sydney Adoption Centre, 201 Rookwood Road, Yagoona, 2199 or at any other of our shelters across NSW 🙌

Thank you! From everyone at RSPCA NSW and the furry friends you will help keep warm this winter ❤️

🧺LAUNDRY HELP NEEDED!
As we have some wet weather ahead we need help to get the doggies bedding clean and dry.
We give the doggies clean bedding every night so we go through a lot of laundry!
If you are able to pick up a bag or two to take home to either wash or dry or both, would be so grateful! We are located at 2 McCowen Rd, Ingleside - pick up laundry between 10am and 4pm would be ideal!
Thankyou 🙏🏻

Today, we asked F1 when its parent company will stop sponsoring the Iditarod race—which killed 3 dogs this year alone.

Hi everyone

Update post

Firstly I wanted to acknowledge our amazing followers, sponsors and donors who have been with us over the last decade. Without you we would have never helped as many shepherds as we have.

We are currently a very small team of volunteers (an extremely small team). Most of our volunteers have moved interstate or to another country or moved to a different phase in their life. At the current time we have less capable foster homes then ever before and the applications we do get are unable to be facilitated. We try very hard to explain that shepherds of unknown origins can kill and maim small fluffies such as rabbits, chickens, guineas and cats etc. We will never knowingly place dogs in a position to fail or to cause harm to your current family members. (to many commenters chargrin that we won't give them a shepherd with multiple fluffies)

This brings me to my next point. With next to no suitable foster homes currently it means our intake priorities remain with seniors, medical/ortho care and very young dogs who are vulnerable in the system.

We are currently receiving up to 20 surrenders forms every single day. We are receiving more surrender forms then adoption forms!! I'm hoping that sentence will sink in to some who think we aren't doing enough. Our applications for dogs has dwindled to less then a dozen applicants for puppies and a very small few for older dogs.

We've never been in such a position before, and like most rescues I don't know how we fix it. Our looming economic crisis, our lack of housing, our lack of income to provide care for dogs that are out in the community as well as meet the family needs, homelessness on the increase, unemployment on the rise.... I could go on but I won't. Our furry friends are receiving the brunt of the unstable system we all find ourselves in. It breaks my heart and makes us feel worthless at our inability to help more then we do. We will still be there for the complex care ones that need that little bit of expertise that we offer. The old and the sick that need financial support and a soft, caring, experienced home to rest and recover. The young and the old we will squeeze in whenever we can.

We unfortunately are unable to take into care all the generalized rehomings for the variety of reasons they're wanting to surrender. Our services are to be dedicated back to those that really need us. Hopefully our donors and ongoing supporters as well as care homes/volunteers who have helped us through will continue to help us through the toughest time in rescue in the last decade.

We will continue to offer assisted rehoming services, desexing last litter services, domestic violence services, lower socio economic subsidized desexing, palliative care and medical intakes. All other applicants wanting to surrender dogs will be referred off to other organizations who can offer quick intake and rehoming.

Hopefully all our loving supporters will stay with us and understand however if our supporters move over to larger organisations we understand completely.

If you need to surrender your dog here are some suggestions.
1. I highly urge you to reconsider your reasons for surrendering
2. If it is a necessity contact rescue early enough for them to help you not 2 days before you threaten to put your furry friend down.
3. Ensure your dog is not going to be used by a BYB system and desex before rehoming.
4. Make sure you have done the work to set up your dog for a new home. Dumping isn't fixing your dogs behavioural problems it will 100% make them worse and if they end up in the pound that is a death sentence for a shepherd.
5. If you need to contact us urgently there are links on our website to show the services we provide. We are answering emails most of the time through the week.
6. At this stage the only service we offer healthy normal animals is assisted rehoming if you're looking for a quick dump and run we are not the rescue service for you.

If you want to adopt a dog
1. Talk to all family members and members in the home. We are so tired of going through the applicants and interviews and meeting the dog only to be told husband/wife hasn't been told yet and they then don't agree to a new pet.
2. Ensure you're set up to bring a new dog into your home!.
3. A dog is for life not when life is convenient to you. A shepherd especially bonds hard to their family don't break their spirit because you've got a holiday planned or a hiccup in your life plans. Make sure to have backup plans for your companion.
4. Our shepherds are indoor /outdoor dogs they're not garden gnomes to be left aside out the back. We take pride in selecting the right home for a shepherd that receives our care we won't be homing them to just anyone.

I think that's the end of the rant. If you've followed to the end thank you, it's now time for a cup of tea and to hold my 5 shepherds here ❤️🍵

Thank you to those who are amazing and help keep shepherds in the right homes we love you all.

**I have been collected**

-Do You Know Simba-

Simba was placed in our overnight kennels last night at Erina after being found wandering East Gosford area.

He is still microchipped to the breeder and apparently he has been rehomed a few times so we are unsure who his owner is.

Are you his owner or do you recognise him?

Please contact Erina Pound on 02 4304 4350 or send us a PM if you can assist.

This heartbreaking image is a stark reminder of why it's crucial to call wildlife rescue whenever you hit an animal on the road.

This poor kangaroo's suffering could have been prevented.
This beautiful animal was hit by a car over a week ago and left to endure a slow and painful death. Sadly, by the time they were found, they were malnourished with significant injury's and euthanasia was the kindest option.

If you ever hit an animal on the road, even if they run away or you can't stop, please call a wildlife rescue immediately, you can find your local wildlife rescue with a quick google search. They are trained professionals who can track down the animal and provide the medical attention it needs. Every hour counts when an animal is injured, We will NOT judge you, and your call could save an animal's life. Here's why:

Injured animals might go into shock and hide nearby. They may be suffering internal injuries you can't see.
Even if they seem okay, they could have serious injuries that will worsen over time. Even if you are sure the animal has been killed, they may have a joey on board who could be saved. Wildlife rehabilitators can assess the animal and provide proper care.

Please share this post to spread awareness so tragedy's like this stop happening.

Help FAWNA Volunteers Help Wildlife

Did you know?

Rescued wildlife in rehabilitation need special food.
Joeys don’t tolerate lactose and marsupial joey milk can cost up to $8 a litre
FAWNA spent over $31,000 on wildlife food in the last 12 months
Volunteers spent another $10000 or more
$17000 value of marsupial milk was given to volunteers for their charges
$5000 in special bird feeds and $6000 for flying-fox fruit
Over 4500 animals were helped – we need ongoing support to operate
Last year on NSW Mid North Coast FAWNA volunteers operated over an area of 18000 sq km. They give of their time freely with animal rescue and care, and telephone rescue line duties. They spend large sums themselves on their wildlife rescue and rehabilitation with vehicle costs, enclosures, pouches and bedding, medications, heating and power. FAWNA buys in the expensive wildlife foodstuffs and milk formulae in bulk and reimburses members’ costs for meat, seed, fish, fruit and veg needed for their wildlife patients.

There is no formal funding (that’s right, Government does not fund wildlife groups to help rescue and look after wildlife) and FAWNA relies on membership fees, the generosity of public donations and grants to keep running.

Around 4,500 animals are rescued annually bringing a huge cost to the group to ensure they are well fed prior to their release back to the wild. In the last 12 months FAWNA spent over $31000 feeding the wildlife in care and members spent more and we are asking the community to help us with this work.
