It’s a bit colder here now, and senior dogs often feel the chill more than we do. 🐶 A little extra comfort could go a long way.

Here are a few simple ways you could help keep older dogs warm and well during cooler weather:🐾 Warm beds in more than one spot.

🐾 Use cosy and warm dog-safe blankets.

🐾 Keep walks short and make sure your dog is warm enough; a coat can help, especially for small breed dogs.

🐾 Keep an eye on your dog’s mobility since the cold weather can make stiffness more obvious.

🐾 Monitor their appetite and water intake; if they’re drinking less when it’s cold, you can add a little warm water to their meals, especially if they eat wet food.

If you notice a sudden change in mobility, appetite, or drinking, it should be checked with your vet. 🩺

Chinese New Year celebrations are joyful for us, but for some dogs, the extra visitors, family gatherings, fireworks, and busy events/shows could feel loud, unpredictable, and overwhelming.

Here are a few simple ways you could help your dog stay calm and relaxed:

🏠 Create a “quiet zone”

Set up a comfy space in a quieter room with their bed, food, water, and a favourite toy. Let your dog stay in their quiet space if they choose to.

🔊 Reduce the chaos

Lower the volume on music/TV, and consider background white noise to help mask fireworks or street sounds.

👋 Brief your visitors

A quick reminder helps: “Please don’t pick up the dog, let them approach you.” Calm greetings could prevent stress.

🐾 Watch for overwhelm

Panting, pacing, hiding, trembling, refusing treats, or clinginess could be signs they need more space and quiet.

This Chinese New Year, the goal is simple: celebrate big, but let your dog rest easy. 🧡

With Chinese New Year around the corner, a few festive favourites could spell trouble for curious pups, especially when visitors are coming and going.

Here are 3 things your dog should avoid this season:

🌿 Chinese New Year plants

Lucky bamboo/dracaena, peach blossom branches and other plants could cause tummy upset (and some could be toxic if chewed). Keep pots up high and block access if your pup likes to “taste-test” greenery.

🍰 Treats and cakes

New Year cake, p**n choi, lap cheong/roast meats, salty preserved/dried foods could trigger vomiting/diarrhoea, and fatty foods could upset sensitive stomachs even more. Keep treat trays out of reach.

👦 Well-meaning visitors

The biggest risk is often a sneaky “just a little bite.” Pop a friendly note by the snacks: “Please don’t feed the dog!” Offer dog-safe treats instead so everyone can join in safely.

If you think your pup has eaten something they shouldn’t, please contact your veterinarian for advice. 🩺

January is celebrated as “Walk Your Dog Month”, a reminder that daily walks support your dog’s body and brain.

If you’re stepping up the step-count in 2026, here are a few joint-friendly walk tips your dog could benefit from:

🐶 Start slow: shorter, more frequent walks should be gentler than one big leap in distance.

🐶 Warm up: a few minutes of easy sniffing should help loosen stiff joints.

🐶 Watch for signs: lagging, stiffness after rest, or slower sit-to-stand could mean you should dial it back and check in with your vet.

🐶 Choose kinder terrain: softer, even surfaces could reduce impact, especially for bigger or senior dogs.

Want extra support for all those New Year walks? J+M Joints + Mobility Support contains core joint building blocks and may help maintain joint lubrication, support healthy cartilage, and support connective tissue strength.

New year, fresh check-in: here are 4 simple questions you should ask about your dog’s health in 2026:

👉 Have I noticed any changes in mobility?

If your dog seems stiffer, slower to rise, or less keen on walks, joint support could help, especially for active, large-breed, or senior dogs.

👉 How are their poos and tummy?

If stools are unpredictable or your pup has a sensitive tummy, a prebiotic + probiotic could support a healthier gut balance.

👉 Is their skin and coat looking healthy?

If the coat looks dull or the skin seems dry/itchy, Omega-3 support could help with skin and coat condition (and may also support mobility).

👉 When was their last vet check-up?

A routine vet visit should help you catch issues early, especially if you’ve noticed any changes.

Bringing a new pup home is exciting, and a little preparation should make the transition calmer for both of you.

Here are a few welcome-home essentials to start the year strong:

🐾 Choose the right match: their energy, space needs, and your lifestyle should fit.

🐾 Stock the basics: food, bowls, bed, toys, collar + lead, treats, grooming bits and anything else you’ll need from day one.

🐾 Set a simple routine: consistency should help your dog feel safe faster.

🐾 Dog-proof your home: remove hazards, block off areas that are off limits, and create a cosy “safe zone.”

🐾 Book a vet check: a visit soon after arrival should help you get vaccinations and worming up to date.

🐾 Training and socialisation: go slowly, keep it positive, and get help if you need it.

🐾 Give it time: some dogs settle fast — others could take weeks (or longer). Patience should pay off.

As we step into 2026, it’s the perfect moment to pause and check in on your pup’s wellbeing. A few small habits (and the right nutritional support) can make a big difference as the year gets going.

Here are some simple ways to start strong:
✨ Rebalance after the holidays:
Rich treats, broken routines and a bit of seasonal mischief can leave digestion a little off. A probiotic + prebiotic blend can help reset gut health, support nutrient absorption, and get everything moving the way it should.
💪 Protect joints for winter walks:
Cold weather can make stiff or ageing joints feel even tougher. A high-quality joint support supplement could help with mobility and comfort: ideal for pups who love long adventures or are just starting to slow down.
🐟 Boost everyday vitality:
If there’s one daily habit worth carrying into the new year, it’s Omega-3. It helps to support skin, coat, cognitive function, and overall inflammation: a simple addition can provide wide-reaching benefits.

From all of us here, we wish you and your pup a healthy, joyful and tail-wagging Happy New Year.

Christmas is for the whole family, including your pup!
The holiday season can come with a few sneaky hazards that can turn festive fun into an unexpected vet visit.

Here are a few things to watch out for:
✨ Chocolate and sweets: Delicious for us, dangerous for them. Keep gift boxes and dessert tables out of nose-range.
🌲 Baubles, tinsel and ornaments: Sparkly… and surprisingly tempting to chew! Opt for unbreakable decorations on the lower branches.
🕯️ Scented candles and potpourri: Great for your home, not for your pup’s stomach.
🍗 Festive leftovers: Rich, fatty foods can upset tummies. Cooked bones are a definite no.

A little awareness goes a long way. A calm, safe dog means a calmer, happier you; which is what the season’s all about. If you are concerned about anything your pup may have eaten, please contact your veterinarian.
From all of us at The Vet Equation, we wish you and your four-legged family members a healthy, tail-wagging Christmas.
