I've had a foster I haven't spoken of for weeks because he flipped me upside down...mentally and almost physically.
I wasn't prepared for his damage and I honestly regretted taking him. Annie was zero flight risk compared to him. He was a feral dog who has no video of it because capturing was hell (rope burn on my ankle is evidence)
Meet "Socks". A young male Beagle hunter release.
He ran and paced. He panted. He escaped. His mind was constantly wound. He couldn't think straight. He wouldn't eat in front of someone. He wouldn't come inside willingly and he couldn't be brought inside without a traumatic fight. He sat in one spot and lived in a crate.
Then, he got neutered and on prescribed calmatives. He was around a lot of dogs to learn from. He was around even more fresh chicken from Tia's hand.
Now, he runs to play tag. He whines in excitement to see his foster Mama in the morning. He is her shadow. He scarfs his food down. He runs in and out of the house by himself. He goes into his kennel. He jumps on the couch by choice and lays on his foster Mama's hand. He rolls in the grass. He goes after toys. His tail is up. He is learning how to be a DOG and be LOVED by a human.
If you've made it this far...Thank you.
Socks isn't perfect yet. He still has a long way to go. He will probably always be a flight risk. He doesn't like kids, they're still too unpredictable and loud things. But he will love and cling to his person and he loves every dog he meets. He's adoptable. So let's find him a home. Send him to the kindest people you know who will finish the work on rounding out a now amazing dog. He had a rough start and is ready for his bright future π
