Diva, Cherry, and I took a little walk this evening. Since I don’t live in town, they don’t often get to walk the sidewalks. So, since dad is 🤒, we went for a stroll.

🤩Whippet friends, feel free to share this post!🤩

Accepting donations for the American Whippet Club Pacific Northwest Regional Dog Show June 17.

We accept new and lightly used items that are dog (especially whippet) related. I can receive items here in Redmond or I can make arrangements for drop off in the greater Portland area prior to the show dates.

In addition to dog related items, we'd love to add some high value items for family use. Maybe you have a time share that you won't be using? Or extra items from your business you'd like to donate? Reach out to me to discuss.

If you happen to be a whippet owner in the PNW who hasn't been to a specialty event, we'd love to see you there! (And if you don't own a whippet, come anyway and see why you should) ❤️

The show dates and location are
June 17 - 11am-5pm (silent auction Friday afternoon)
June 18 & 19 - 8am-4pm (ish)

Nutrition is a hot topic. Here at the farm, we strive for healthy dogs with healthy guts. To achieve this, we have a balanced and varied diet of primarily raw mix meals and supplemental kibble or air dried food.
Ideally, I would prefer to feed all raw but that isn’t always possible, especially when traveling. So we choose well balanced kibble with as few additives as possible. We avoid peas, legumes, and even potatoes for optimal hormone levels and heart health.
This is what’s on October’s menu.

I've been away from social media and computers in general for about a week as I have been concentrating on puppy enrichment activities while also trying to heal my broken ankle. Being social with humans just has not been in my wheel house as I'm sure you can imagine.
That being said, we have had a wonderful time with the puppies and the first one has gone off to her new adventure. More are venturing off this weekend and I will have a not quite empty nest, since we are keeping at least one from this beautiful litter. Here are a few pics from our outdoor adventures.

Good morning!

Disclaimer: our concrete on this side of the barndaminum hasn’t been sealed and painted yet so it stains something horrible but I swear it’s cleaned continuously!

We are well into our weaning period and just entered the blended meal phase.
Every breeder has their own way to wean and we can get pretty vocal about it. So I’m going to explain our method, reasoning, and expectations.

First, all of our adult dogs eat a varied diet of complete raw (bones, meat, organs, even feathers), home cooked (including leftovers from healthy human meals), and high quality kibble (I’ll explain kibble choices another time).

Puppies begin to wean to lean meat like turkey and goat milk for at least a week. Then we start changing protein, let them chew on chicken or rabbit feet. So long as p**p is still good and no upset tummies, we switch one meal a day from meat/goat milk to kibble/goat milk. If all goes well, we add in a veggie supplement to all meals. This continues until the current stage….

Complete raw chicken mix (includes bones, organs, etc), tripe or veggies and grains, kibble, and goat milk.

This is what they will eat for the next few weeks.

We also begin leaving a small bowl of kibble in the kennel for them to snack on when they are bored or curious. But not for an actual meal.

We have found that by having a foundation of varied diet, together with encouraging a healthy gut filled with all of the right enzymes, that our puppies thrive on any healthy diet when they arrive at their forever homes. As long as they are getting the proper proportion of nutrients they will grow strong and healthy. That could look like a completely kibble diet (again, I will discuss our kibble preferences and reasons at a different time), a balanced and complete raw diet, or even a home cooked diet. Or a combination of all three as we do. We believe that encouraging a cast iron gut is foundational for long healthy lives.

Also, we will begin looking through applications for available puppies next week. If you don’t have an application in with us, shoot me a message. There’s no fee to apply. We don’t work on first come basis, we pick the families based on the best interests of each puppy. 💕

Green bean ends and couscous will mix nicely with the dogs’ raw meal this evening.
Yes, there are some human foods that are actually good for your dogs! So, instead of throwing away the cut ends of many veggies, cook them with a healthy grain like faro, brown rice, oatmeal, or couscous! I divide one human serving between three dogs.

BrightSide Animal Center is starting a working cats placement program for those shelter cats who are not inclined to be social house cats. We are looking for safe warehouses, garages, barns, or ranches for these cats. A new owner will need to be committed to helping the working cat become accustomed to it's new environment, and keep it safe in a contained space within the barn area for at least the first two weeks, as well as provide shelter, medical care, food and fresh water to the cat for the duration of it's life. Working cats tend to prefer minimal human contact, and may be great vermin deterrents.

If you are interested in a working cat from BrightSide please fill out the online screening form on our website under our applications tab.

Raised in Our Home with Love

Welcome to Chappelle’s Flying Whippets FaceBook page. I am excited to introduce myself, my dogs, and my programme to you.

Whippets are an exceptional breed and deserve to be raised exceptionally well. And that’s exactly what we strive for! Beginning with the health and DNA testing of our parent dogs, continuing with early neurological stimulation (ENS), introducing conditioned emotional responses (CER), and providing extensive socialization and training opportunities and protocols with our puppies, they are given all the tools necessary to thrive for the rest of their lives.

Whether you are looking to add a whippet to your home, already have one (or more), or are just visiting our page, we welcome you!
