Against All Odds Rabbit Rescue Against All Odds Rabbit Rescue is located in Calgary, Alberta, Canada.

Because we are a small rescue and do not operate out of a shelter, we rely on foster homes for all the rabbit we take in which means we have very limited space. If you would like to find out more about the rabbits we have for adoption, please visit our website at http://aaorr.com

It's been 7 years today since we rescued Thor.

While he has been a foster under the care of the rescue all this time since he has never quite gotten past that feral streak, he has been a very happy and loved boy all these years and we are happy to be able to accommodate for his needs.

Athena was back in to the vet today for a recheck. After battling with them for around a year in her last home, she appears to be fur mite free! Now to just clear up her weepy eye problem. She also has some behavior that makes us a little suspicious on if she is actually spayed, so we are going to be reaching out to the vet clinics that have seen her previously, but if we can't find clear records, we have an appointment to have her checked by ultrasound.

With how common uterine cancer is in rabbits, we want to be absolutely certain she is done!

For international rabbit day, we celebrated by taking our newest intake, Athena, to the vet clinic for her check up. Thankfully everything came back good so far, but she does have a case of fur mites that we are treating for. This beautiful girl is a 15.5 lb Flemish Giant and has the gentle giant personality to match ❤️

Thanks to the funds raised from Plushie Dreadfuls auction, she was able to get a full workup and the treatment she needed.

We got results back from Aloy's necropsy, and it did confirm some suspicions that we had, as well as explain why she has had so many problems with GI issues.

Aloy had 3 adhesions through her bowels, attaching her bowel to her stomach and her pancreas, and the small intestine to her colon. She had one at her duodenum that, on Friday, closed off the bowel entirely. It wasn't a physical traditional blockage, but her intestine instead the sealing of the intestine that caused her to back up. Each time she had an episode, it would likely cause a little more inflammation to the bowel which would in turn tighten the adhesion, which would make her more prone to these episodes. It was a ticking time bomb and this blockage just tipped the scales a little too much.

This is something that isn't at all common and we have no idea how it could have happened, likely however from her time as a stray. Unfortuanately, there was nothing that could have been done to stop this outcome and putting her to sleep was ultimately the best decision for her.

Unfortuanately, I wish I had a better Aloy update. Through mid day she had started to show some signs of improvement and she seemed to be perking up, as well as a better blood glucose level, but around 5:00 she very rapidly declined once more and we had to make the kindest decision for her, which was letting her go.

We are having a necropsy done to find out exactly what happened and why, and hoping perhaps it has some clues as to why she was so prone to the issues of blockages and GI Stasis.

We stayed with her and it was a very peaceful passing.

Rest in Peace Aloy.
