Something we work hard at when we have pups is to make sure all the Big Dogs still get plenty of attention and input.

I’ve been doing some scent work training with Marla and checking her recall in an exciting environment. While she isn’t hunted, one of the focuses of our program is to ensure any bitch or dog used has hunting instincts well and truly intact so that we keep the purpose of the breed alive. Keeping this breed’s brain engaged and using their natural instincts are important aspects of keeping them happy and something any non hunting homes need to be mindful of. Numbers of Marla’s pups are used for hunting and delight their owners with the results.

Marla has always been ‘my girl’ and we are loving the extra one on one time together. At nearly 9 she is still lively and full of life but also much more tuned in. I adore her 🥰

Thanks to Augusta Grayson - Proactive Canine Training for the help and input. Marla is showing herself to be a complete star ⭐️…but I would expect no less ❤️

Sunday mornings are such FUN!!!! …for me, anyway 🫢 the Big Dogs are incredibly accommodating but are also teaching me soooo much that I would normally learn from siblings.

Uncle Badger is my special friend 😍….and I have to have big sleeps after short playtimes or I get myself completely wound up and ‘zaustipated’

Thursday saw Punch meeting her new parents…and getting confirmation of her call name:

Lykus (which finds its origins in Greek Mythology and is closely linked to the image of the mighty wolf)

We do have to admit we have been using it for a wee while and she happily comes to it when called.

Legs and ears continue to lengthen 😆

Big Dogs get told to keep their distance when I am eating (‘cos I’m special! 🙊) but when I’m truly finished they’re allowed to lick my empty dish…well ‘the grown-ups say they’re allowed, I tell ‘em different 🫢😆

Today I was a big girl and mum let me have my first real 'outside' visitor. Augusta Grayson from https://www.facebook.com/caninetrainingnz ...boy was she GREAT.

She confirmed that my human slaves are doing right by me with the sensory 'training' they are doing (touching, smelling and hearing different things) and the other things they're doing that are helping me not to be a spoilt brat because I don't have any siblings - like rolling me around, putting objects in my way and knocking me off teats so I learn to deal with frustration. She even knows of a litter that I might be able to go and have some play dates with ...yippeee! 🤞

She laughed at me because my instincts are already so strong...I shook the fluffy toy just like a big dog out hunting, and my nose got all twitchy at new smells.

She said I had very solid character (!), quite a bit of sass in my voice 😆 (which I used quite a lot because everyone was looking at ME) and that I was brave and confident without being reckless. I stepped on the big bit of tinfoil with all 4 legs even though it felt funny when I tested it with just one, and then it moved and crinkled when all of me got on it...but because it made everyone laugh, I did it lots 🙈

Mum Yola was happy too, she got special treats, and she took and lay on top of the rabbit fur pull that Augusta brought with her. Robbie had to ask her really nicely to give it up at the end of our meeting.
