Nikki’s foster had to go out of town and where we thought we had something lined up, it fell through at the last minute. As a result we have had to board her temporarily. On a good note, I am visiting with her each evening and really getting to know her. She’s such an amazing girl. She’s truly overdue for a home of her own. Please continue sharing Nikki for a home of her own, we know it’s out there. If you’d like to meet her, she’s available for meet n greets most evenings at 6 for the next week.

Dalton is a 10 month old corso up for adoption. Dalton needs to be placed as an only dog as he has had some incidents with another dog in the home. One incident was over food, the other was when he was over stimulated. No serious harm was done. Dalton has received professional training. He’s house broken, and has good house manners. He’s never shown any aggression to a person. He is altered, utd on vaccines and microchipped. He is still with his original owner but is at risk of euthanasia if placement is not found soon.

Introducing George. He’s in need of a foster and ultimately a forever home. He’s a big goof but needs an experienced home due to breed combination as we expect his guarding traits to come out more once settled in. Due to breed mix he should not be placed with other males, there’s never been an issue but we want to keep it this way. A video of playing with another dog is in the comments. He’s all puppy and his play style can be overwhelming for some dogs. He’s very affectionate with his people and we know the right home is out there. I’m guessing he’s around 2 years old, and approx 120lbs.

RESCUE is more than a verb…it’s a promise!!!

05/10/2024

Placing the needs of our canine charges at the forefront of our decision-making process sometimes necessitates declining foster or adoption requests. Though these choices may engender disappointment and frustration, be assured that they are motivated solely by the quest for the optimal outcome for the animals. Unfounded allegations and attempts at coercion will not sway us from our principles, as we strive to act with tact and professionalism in all interactions. While it may be tempting to assign blame or assume ulterior motives, it is essential to recognize that our primary focus lies with the welfare of the dogs. For those who share our dedication to the well-being of these animals, we invite you to explore our rescue organization and fostering opportunities, secure in the knowledge that our commitment to their care remains unwavering. For those, who are not aligned with our thinking we encourage you to explore other organizations that may be a better fit.

DID YOU KNOW?

Dogs have 50x more olfactory receptors than humans and have a significantly larger part of the brain dedicated to interpreting smell. 💥💥🤯

If you can see a dog, it can smell you....

… and your aftershave, and your brand of soap, deodorant, body odour, breath, toothpaste…

how much you had to drink last night,

what kind of coffee you drink,
(whether you had sugar in it),

what kind of mood you’re in,

if you’re about to catch a cold AND if they want to be your friend.

Comparing a dogs sense of smell to yours, would be like comparing my son’s paper aeroplane attempts to Elon Musk’s Rocket Ship! We don’t even come close to understanding what it must be like to smell the world the way dogs do.

If you want to really see what your dog’s nose is capable of, teach them to find something specific. It’s the most under-utilised form of exercise in the pet world and has the potential to help your dog feel more content, relaxed and less anxious. You’ll be amazed by what they can achieve!

One of the best trainers we know and we are honored to have her as a friend. Elaine with Wildside Unlimited embodies everything we look for in a trainer and her methods are aligned with our training philosophies. We’ve gotten to many dogs over the years, with aggression issues, that surfaced after going to a trainer that used adverse methods. Training should always be centered around the bond and creating an environment where the dog feels safe. True change never happens over night and it takes time and consistency. It’s imperative we learn to speak there language and establish a solid bond so the dog feels safe and comfortable with what we are asking from the dog. Dogs naturally want to please and when all these factors are in place you will start seeing results.

Check out Wildside Unlimited’s video.

We are often asked if our dogs are good with kids. We’ve only had 3 dogs that we specifically said absolutely no kids and were very clear in our postings about this. If our post does not specifically say not good with kids then the question is are your kids good with dogs and do your parent your kids in a way that unacceptable behaviors around dogs will not be tolerated. Do you ensure your dog has a safe place to get away from your kids when the dog needs a break. Do you have enough control over your kids to not allow your kids to overwhelm a new dog. These are the questions you need to be asking yourself. All of our dogs are exposed to children and unless otherwise stated, do fine with the kids they are around. However, these are children that respect dogs and have parents that actually parent their children. If someone needs to ask specifically if one of our dogs is good with kids out first thoughts are always going to be questioning how your children is around dogs and questioning your parenting style of allowable behaviors.

San Diego Rescue friends, pet owners, VM professionals

We are looking for recommendations on a vet that can do comfort groom for dogs under sedation. Some of our Golden Doodles rescued from the hoarding situation are practically semi feral and we’ve done several trial runs with meds and they get tired but fight through it as soon as we try to touch them.

Any recommendations and referrals are appreciated. (We are looking for more than a shave down but also a bath so hoping to find a Vet Clinic also equipped to groom)

We still desperately need to find Teddy a foster in the San Diego area. He’s one of the golden doodles from from the boarding situation. His original foster initially wanted to adopt and despite making every effort to explain these dogs are very fearful of new people and will take time, it’s hard to get people to see past “golden doodle”. Teddy is amazing with other dogs and having another confident friendly dog in the home for him to learn from would be the ideal situation. He will also need somewhere with a safe and secure yard as he isn’t leash trained and needs access to a yard to potty. Please help us share Teddy for an experienced committed foster that will be patient and give him the time he needs to learn to trust so he can eventually find a forever home of his own.
