I really worry about our dogs in the heat of summer. I also really worry about people walking dogs in the summer. Cavaliers really do not require daily walks to be happy and content. If you need to walk daily, leave the dog at home where it's cool. Temperatures are getting higher everywhere.

For those of us living where Summer is already here, we need to make sure our dogs don't get overheated. It can happen in a flash! While Cavaliers are not a brachycephalic breed, they do have shorter muzzles and tend to have a soft palate. When they overheat, that palate can actually swell and cause respiratory distress. Respiratory distress often causes cardiac distress and eventually death. When it's 80 - 85 degrees, we really don't allow the dogs to be outdoors much. We hear too many times, about dogs getting overheated and tragically dying. Don't let that happen to your dog!

We also must remember how hot the pavement and sidewalks are. Burned paws are a reality in the heat! Dogs do not need a walk everyday to be happy. They need to be kept cool and unharmed and they will feel your love.

This is a reminder for all. Please take heed!

I received an alarming text message last week stating a 15 year old dog that I had produced wasn't doing well. His respiratory rate was normal, but he wouldn't stand and was clearly not feeling well. At 15, you immediately think heart or stroke or who knows....well, the story ends completely different than anyone expected, and, thankfully, in a good way. The dog had swallowed some legos and a tiny doll hair clip and they were lodged in his gut. Some of the legos came up when they made him vomit. Others, along with the hair clip did not. Surgery is rarely an option at age 15. Thankfully, through endoscopy the next day, they were able to remove the rest of the legos and the hair clip.

This was a real wakeup call to me as I never would have guessed this dog would do something like this! Even OLD dogs cannot be trusted to not eat something harmful to them! They are always dogs. Think of them always as toddlers. They put things in their mouths they shouldn't.

I'm so grateful for this dog's owner. She knew something was terribly wrong and got him into the vet asap. Watch your dogs, because things can go bad in a very short amount of time!

Part of the pleasure of breeding is meeting and getting to know the people we trust our dogs with. Buffie flew in from Minneapolis today to pick up Izzie. She’s going to be a pampered only dog and have a wonderful life! ❤️

Edit: thanks for all the inquiries about Annie. She’s going to Mabel’s (her half sister) grandparents home where she will have two older Cavaliers to show her the way.

Please note, we will have some other dogs to place who are not in our breeding program. As we are senior citizens now, we are intending to cut back on the number of dogs we are keeping. We are not done breeding yet as we have some lovely, healthy girls, but will be looking to place dogs that are 6 or under in wonderful homes. Message us if you’re interested.

We have a really sweet 6 month old puppy available to the right home. Please contact us privately if interested. She loves to sit in laps.
