Dear Rupert & Hope came to see us today for full grooms.

Hope was happy to be bathed and sprung up on the table to be dried with no anxiety at all.

Rupert isnt a fan of the bath so we counterconditioned his time with the water and he was happily eating treats and was well below his threshold of tolerance whilst being bathed.

He also didnt want to go onto the grooming table and turned away from it and went to the door and stood up on his back legs and scratched at the door and tried to open the doorhandle to get out the salon so we let him out the room with the noisy drier and spent some time bonding with him and showing him that we supported his anxiety and we weren't going to force him to do anything. 10 minutes later he happily followed us back into the salon and we sat on the floor and showed him that warm air at a distance meant treats and that it wasnt a bad thing to have warm air blowed on you whilst eating treats 🥰. He agreed it was actually quite nice and trusted us so much that after 10 minutes being gently blow dried on the floor, he hoped up onto the grooming table to follow a treat and happily and without any restraint finished his blow dry on the table.

He was so chilled out he slept horizontally whilst we styled him content we were listening and would support his anxiety and fears 😍

It seems unbelievable that this snoozing doggle was scratching a the door to get out half an hour before and wonderful what a bit of time and counterconditioning and no force can do to earn trust.

The icing on the cake was after his groom when his Mum said he normally drags her out of the grooming salon which was in contrast to him quite happily wombling around after his groom and that no drags out the door to the car occurred. What a joy for Rupert's Mum to see his calmness and happiness too.

We love you Rupert & Hope and look forward to building our relationship with you more.

Brandy & Blue have both been rescued from Greece by the wonderful Bobbie Whitehead and so of course have some anxious characteristics. Blue is a beautiful double coated Collie X and used to dragging Bobbie out of groomers desperate to get home in the past.

Both were initially confidently walking round the salon checking out the enriching playroom and garden and happy to be touched and gently scratched but on going into the salon both were highly nervous and didn't want to jump up on the table. So we said ok and got down on the floor on their level and we were thrilled to have gained both of their trust.

Blue was at all times given the choice whether to participate and come over or not and not forced and he quickly was enjoying a scratch and cuddle which then turned into a calm, lying down full de shed which she took totally in her stride. We have enough hair for another cushion now ;-)

Blue is such a smart Collie that we even gained his trust to go from her not wanting her nails to be touched and backing right off, to her being content played to play the, can you touch the nail clippers of your own accord game which wins your a treat, which she loved and resulted in us untraumatically clipping a couple of toe nails. We didn't want to overdo as he was so trusting so will finish off the rest when Brandy has her groom next.

His sister Brandy watched Blue trust us and also freely got involved and enjoyed some counter conditioning to make her happy to have her feet and teeth touched so when she comes in for her groom next week she will already be trusting and happy to see us.

Wish we had got more pics but we were so busy with treats and bonding! We can't wait to see you all again soon and we will get more pics!

Lola took her puppy groom totally in her stride and is looking fresh and super cute! Lola was very happy to womble into a new environment with a room full of treats and toys to explore at the salon! Her Mummy being there supporting her and helping us to gently create positive experiences may have had something to do with her enjoying her first full groom too!! 😆🥰 Lola is going to be a very happy groomer for life. Rusty the cockapoo grows from anxious...... to confident in one introductory grooming session 😍🥰 This is the HOW......

It was such a pleasure to meet Gemma, Rusty and Gemma's daughter and make everyone happy.

What a joy to see Rusty go from being unsure about approaching us and anxious when he arrived, to him jumping on the low grooming table totally of free will and happy to be groomed and unstressed.

Rusty learned it was a safe place by his Mum coming into the salon with him and hanging around whilst he snuffled around the play and treat enrichment area. Checking out snuffle matts, likimats, brain games and toys. We played ball in the garden and ran through some endorphin releasing preconditioned sits and paws for treats.

Rusty was then invited into the bath with a lead not forced and by now Rusty trusted us and was content and drinking and playing with water as we bathed him.

Next we invited him to jump onto the grooming table of free will which he happily did. We had the dryer on a speed that Rusty liked and didnt rush him dry by turning up the pressure and volume to anything that made him pant with anxiety. We gave Rusty the ability to jump off the table at any time as the table is a foot off the ground and we didnt stress Rusty by restraining him. Rusty choose to be dried by us and not leave once. We noticed he did react to his feet being dried so we left them till the end when he was a little more sure and he was happy with that too.

We then gently brushed Rusty and found a couple of small tangles which of course we started to gently tease out but Rusty gave us the very slight indication he would rather we didnt touch the tangles and as soon as he did we listened and stopped combing and he jumped down from the table.

We gave him a minute or two to womble round the salon and gave him some cuddles and treats and then we invited him up for more grooming by patting the top of the grooming table and he cherrily jumped back up of his own accord for more gentle strokes and grooms and once he had settled again we returned to the tangles and it didn't register with him... no forcing him or restraining him to the table meant he felt in control and listened to and relaxed and trusted us and we brushed him with no signs of stress.

Onto his nails and he showed us by flinching he was anxious about this. We counter conditioned it immediately and gave him a treat, which as he was already so relaxed he was happy to eat and the rest of the nails he was distracted and happily eating as they were clipped. Next time he will probably not be so concerned about nails and in time will be conditioned to expect nails = treats and forget all together that its a cause for concern.

We loved he enjoyed it so much and to see Gemma Bond so happy that we had given you the look we had chatted about and interpreted what you wanted correctly was the cherry on top of a wonderful groom 🥰.

We cant wait to see you all again soon 😍
