Carin' About the Strays Rescuing abandoned & orphaned kittens, providing them care & support, and adopting into forever homes Carin’ About The Strays, depends solely on volunteers.

Nonprofit We are based out of Cookeville TN serving Putnam County. We specialize in pregnant females, orphaned kittens, injured animals which are treated at Ragland and Riley Veterinary Hospital . Our rescued animals are placed in a foster home, where they can be socialized and house trained, which gives them a better chance to be adopted, and make the adoption more successful. We are a Cat Rescue

, but will try to help dogs and other animals find the help they need. Our animals have come from environments that were not healthy for the animals such as abandoned animals, orphaned kittens, pregnant females or animals that were given up due to owner financial or other issues. We rely on sponsors and donations to pay for medical bills for our rescue animals. We are always looking for foster parents for our animals that are in need of a loving and caring home. Get Involved! Become a Foster Parent: Fostering animals is a rewarding experience! Many of the animals have had bad experiences with the human population and are scared and untrusting, by becoming a foster home you will be able to socialize and gain the animals trust, and in doing that they will be better prepared to be adopted into their forever homes. It is very rewarding when you recognize the difference you have made in the animals life. Donate can! We accept monetary donations and we also gladly accept pet carriers, cat toys, treats, food, and anything else that can help with the health and comfort of our animals while they are in our care. Any and all donations are appreciated. Contact: [email protected]

✨ Meet Coco ✨
6-month-old tabby sweetheart 💛

Coco may be shy in her PetSmart cage, but at home she absolutely blooms. She loves watching TV, playing with her toys, and greeting visitors before retreating to her room to lounge on her cat tree like the gentle little queen she is.

She’s a clean eater, only eats her food, and keeps her area spotless. Coco thrives in a calm, loving home where she can feel safe and show off her sweet personality.

If you’re looking for a cozy, gentle, quiet young tabby girl to love… Coco is waiting for you. 💕

🐾 Meow Monday: Essential Oils & Cat Safety 🐾

Many essential oils we love are toxic to cats — even in diffusers! Cats can’t break down certain compounds found in oils, so exposure builds up in their system and can lead to poisoning.

🚫 Oils Toxic to Cats:
Tea Tree • Eucalyptus • Peppermint • Citrus • Pine • Cinnamon • Wintergreen • Clove • Ylang-ylang • Lavender (in higher concentrations)

🚨 Symptoms of Toxicity:
Drooling, vomiting, wobbling, tremors, seizures, difficulty breathing, lethargy, or a chemical smell on their fur.
👉 If you notice these, get to a vet ASAP.

🛡️ How to Keep Your Cat Safe:
• Avoid essential oils when possible
• If you use them, keep cats completely out of the area & use VERY diluted versions
• Store oils securely & wash hands after handling
• Choose pet-friendly alternatives like hydrosols or vet-approved calming sprays

Your kitty’s liver can’t process these oils — so keeping them out of your home is the safest option. 💛🐱

Happy Meow Monday! Keep your home safe, cozy, and cat-friendly.

🌟 FELINE FRIDAY: TWO HAPPY TAILS! 🌟
Elio & George Eliot – Proof That Every Cat Deserves a Chance

Today we’re celebrating two incredible orange tabby boys who remind us why rescue work matters… and why fostering saves lives. 💛

🐾 Elio’s Journey
Elio came to us with extensive face and head injuries that looked heartbreaking—and scary. After vet care, diagnostics, and lots of love, we learned it was actually a severe fungal infection. With treatment, patience, and a dedicated foster, this sweet boy healed beautifully. And guess what? He found his perfect forever family in Indiana, where he’s now living the life he always deserved.

🐾 George Eliot’s Story
George Eliot wandered into a foster’s backyard one day—friendly, gentle, and far too sweet to be living outside. Likely dumped, he quickly proved he was a big soft lug with a huge heart. But he tested positive for FIV and FeLV, which often scares adopters away. Not this time. A compassionate adopter in Indiana (separate family from Elio) saw him, not the diagnosis, and welcomed George Eliot home.

🚗 And yes—our incredible rescue President personally drove both boys all the way to Indiana to start their new lives. That’s the level of love and dedication behind every save. ❤️

✨ Neither of these boys were kittens. Neither had perfect circumstances. But BOTH survived, healed, and found forever homes.

Fostering made it possible. Compassion made it happen.
And their futures? Absolutely bright. ☀️

💔 We Are Exhausted — We Truly Need Help 💔

Fosters urgently needed!

We don’t know how else to say it: we are beaten down. Over the past weeks, we’ve asked for fosters again and again. We get comments, messages, and shares… and then we’re left waiting, hoping, and too often—ghosted. We recently had four cats lined up for safety, and our new foster abandoned the commitment without a word. Now those cats, and many others, are once again depending on us.

But we are out of space. We are out of homes. And we are out of options unless we place them in small cages—something none of us want for any animal.

Right now, we urgently need at least 3 foster homes.
Here are the babies waiting:

🐾 Mama + 2 kittens
🐾 Mama + 2 kittens
🐾 5 kittens (can be separated)

We will supply guidance, support, and help every step of the way. You are not alone in this—fostering saves lives, and right now, these lives truly depend on someone stepping up.

If you have even a small amount of space, time, or love to give… please foster. Even fostering one kitten makes a difference.

💌 Message us immediately if you can help.
Please don’t wait. Please don’t assume someone else will.

We need you, and so do they!

🚨 Help Needed: Friendly Cats in Need of a Home! 🚨

A kind neighbor has been caring for two sweet cats that were recently abandoned in their neighborhood. 🐾 They’ve been feeding them and keeping them safe, and the female has already been spayed. The male is scheduled to be neutered next month.

Both cats are friendly! The female is a little shy at first, but they both love attention once they get comfortable. Unfortunately, their temporary caretaker already has four indoor cats and can’t keep them, and with the colder weather and local wildlife (coyotes!), they need a safe, permanent home soon. ❄️🏡

If you or someone you know can provide a loving, indoor home for these two deserving cats, please reach out! Let’s help these kitties stay safe and warm this winter. 💛
