We had a good night last night. Last pottying outside was around 10:30 and everybody slept quietly without an accident in their kennel until this morning around 5:30. The kids and I devote a lot of time on these pups to ensure the easiest and best possible transfer to a new home. 💕
The sweethearts are having fun play time outside! They are now sleeping quietly at night, each in their own kennel. One of them is still crying a bit at first and I can't quite figure out who it is lol. But that should stop in another day or two. They will be 8 weeks old on Thursday and ready to go to their new families. I wish I could keep every one of them as they are all just absolute sweethearts and adorable adorable! They are very smart and make a lot of eye contact with you. They love humans. I'm also encouraged that they are doing very well running out to the grass to do their potty. They will still have an accident if left alone and on their own in a place. When they come in from play, they get to eat and drink and then they go into their kennels with their rawhide chew. They are happy with their safe cozy little dens and hang out in there on their own even with the doors open. It takes another couple weeks for them to fully learn that pottting doesn't happen anywhere but outside and we are working on that. They are happily coming when called now.
Frosty and Trooper 10 weeks old and ready for forever home!
This is day two of crate training. Puppies will be 6 weeks old on Saturday. The first night, last night, there was a never-ending chorus of crying, so after a few hours they ended up going into the laundry room in the baby pool. They got separated out again today and cried during the day off and on, but got out to play and potty a number of times. Tonight they are a bit more quiet than last night. (They have since all gone back in together with Mom.) We will gradually make the times kenneled by themselves longer. They get to all play together when they go outside to potty and nurse and then when they come back in to eat. Then they go back into their separate kennels with a chew toy and to nap. We do our best to keep the kennels as clean as possible with no pee or poop and regularly change the towels. They all got showers today (mom and dad too) and they are clean and fresh with puppy cologne. 🐩 I think they are all pretty wiped out at this point. Another week of this and they should be able to handle being by themselves in their own kennel at night which makes the transition in your home a bit easier. One of the worst complaints of puppy blues is the whining when a puppy is separated from its litter mates the first time. We are trying to make that transition a bit easier for you! They will spend tomorrow day separated out again, each with their own raw hides to chew on. Sweet little things!
I am absolutely loving these little ones. They get more and more adorable every day as they begin to interact with us more and show their love and interest in us too. They are 4 weeks old and just had their first puppy clips. I do their snouts and under their neck, they're four paws, and the little ball with their tail and their potty area. All of them did pretty good with the buzz of the clippers. A little reassurance and a little love and hopefully they will better tolerate their grooming that is to come over the years. These are a grooming required breed and that needs to be figured into a buyer's commitment down the road. You've got to invest in good quiet clippers and time or a good groomer!
Four weeks old brings some big milestones. Pups are getting much more playful and are making delightful little puppy barks. About this time we enter the laundry room and find puppies crawling all about the laundry room floor, so that means it's time to graduate to the bigger swimming pool. They are now in there for about a week until they crawl out of that. We also graduate to potty pads at this time so they can wander away from their towel and do their business somewhere else. It is instinct to not want to go and mess where they sleep and where their den is. This is why it can be so hard to potty train a pet store or a puppy mill puppy. They have been made to get used to potty right where they stay. We also start putting soaked puppy food in a bowl in the pool with them so they have that to nibble at and supplement. Nails get clipped for the first time because they otherwise are snagging and dragging the potty pad all over. We change the pads and towels multiple times daily to ensure a clean place for them. I have rawhide for them to chew on as they teeth. We only give them edible chew toys, which helps with puppies chewing on things they should not. Also tomorrow they will get their first little clip on their nose and their feet. Not only does it make them adorable, but it helps get them used to the clippers. They've typically had 3 little clips by the time you pick them up.
