Big shout out to our EWD rider Annie Messer! With the help of her instructor, Nikki Vaccaro and Leah Karenbauer, she recently passed her green horsemanship skills test and is getting so strong with every ride. Annie has a big personality, loves little kids and is as honest as they come. We have loved watching her and her family’s horse, Cash, doing big things together this year.

So many of our riders brought home some awesome awards. From the youngest to the oldest, there were classes for all and things to win

Jessica Cornell and Hitch Bar None had some beautiful rides at the QH Congress. Look at that smile! It was her first experience there and she placed just out of the ribbons. We are super proud of her and that little gelding!

đŸ’ƒđŸŒYou can dress them up but you can’t take them out of the barn. 🐮

LP barn girls went to Knoch High School Homecoming together yesterday. We think they clean up pretty good. Their dresses were stunning. We have loved watching all of them grow up into beautiful young women.

I sent the Ranch team off to their last show of the season without me over the weekend. Natalie stepped into my role without hesitation and did an amazing job! More coaching is always a good thing
.. it’s more eyes and fresh views. We are so lucky to have her onboard.

I am so proud of this team for following her directions and representing this barn the only way they know how. The best part was hearing and watching all the great rides and seeing some winning photos of year end awards. Saddles, Buckles and Bags and more. All of you poured your hearts into this show season and I couldn’t be happier for you! Great job Team LP!

We would like to congratulate all of our 4h riders on qualifying to compete at the Pennsylvania State championship show in October.

They faced many seasons of weather last weekend and still completed every class with confidence and poise. To look thru these photos and see all those smiling faces makes me so proud of this team and all they stand for. Competing against each other at times and still able to celebrate the wins of their teammates is incredible to watch. I am proud of you all kiddosđŸ©·đŸ’™

A huge thank you to John Hudson for these beautiful photos
. Even the mud ones. He braved the weather all weekend and didn’t miss one single class. We love these and appreciate your time sir.

A good coach plays multiple crucial roles that directly impact the growth and success of their riders. Some of these key roles include:

Mentor – Beyond just sport, a coach helps riders grow personally, sharing valuable advice and wisdom from their own experiences.
Motivator – They inspire and push riders to reach their full potential, fostering a mindset of positivity and determination to meet their goals.
Teacher – Coaches educate riders on techniques, strategies, and the rules of the sport, enhancing both their skills and understanding.
Strategist – Developing effective game plans, coaches leverage riders’ strengths while working on areas of improvement.
Communicator – Clear and effective communication is vital. A coach provides clear instructions, feedback, and support, ensuring riders fully understand their roles.
Disciplinarian – By enforcing rules and maintaining high standards, they promote discipline, respect, and structure within the team.
Supporter – Coaches offer emotional and moral support, helping riders handle pressure, setbacks, and success with resilience.
Evaluator – Regularly assessing riders’ performances, they set goals for improvement and help riders recognize areas for growth.
Role Model – Coaches lead by example, demonstrating sportsmanship, integrity, and a strong work ethic, shaping the attitudes and behavior of their riders.
Team Builder – By fostering camaraderie and teamwork, coaches create an environment where riders feel connected, valued, and supported.
Each of these roles plays an essential part in shaping athletes both in sport and in life.

However, one of the most critical traits of a great coach is the ability to handle the unexpected. Things rarely go as planned, and managing unforeseen challenges in a calm, efficient manner—especially around horses—is, in my view, the most vital quality a coach can possess

đŸ©¶One of our barn moms has been battling brain cancer since December. Kara is the proud mom of three awesome kids, all of whom are very involved at the barn. She has not missed a show all year, even on the days she isn’t feeling the greatest. She is a strong woman with incredible family values and she has taught her children to be the same way.

In honor and support, we will be selling shirts so that she doesn’t have to feel alone in this battle. All of the proceeds will go back to her to help with travel expenses as she undergoes more radiation treatments. If you cannot purchase a shirt, we ask that you add Kara to your prayers. đŸ©¶

Look at all these Buckles

.

The Fort Armstrong Ranch Horse Series put on two awesome shows this summer. Every division had some great competition and the scores were all super close down to the last class of the show.

We are proud of all our riders as they have been putting in the hours and wet saddle pads and it has shown. Each one has the passion and drive to get better and learn more from lesson to lesson. They are easy to teach but can be a lil hard on themselves because they are so determined to do better.

“There is a bit of hidden magic in every mistake. The magic is called learning.”

Our buckle winners are
.
Taylor Miller - Reserve All Around
Reserve Novice Cattle
Reserve Open Ranch
Mia Karenbauer- Champion Novice Cattle and
Champion Novice Ranch
Cody Mackrell- Champion Non Pro Ranch
Stephanie Messer- Champion Primetime Ranch
Annie Messer - Champion EWD Ranch
Macie Boulanger- Reserve Youth Ranch
Justice Patterson - Reserve Novice Ranch
Gracie Shipley- Reserve P*e Wee Ranch
Paige Patterson - Reserve Youth Cattle
Cortney Shipley - Reserve Open Cattle

Thank you to all the Buckle sponsors and volunteers who put on the show. We cannot wait to come back next year.

Circles!!! They are harder than they look

Circles!!! They are harder than they look

What constitutes a circle? It’s probably the most mis understood, over done and poorly executed exercise in the mainstream horse world

A poorly done circle is a wet noodle flopping around, a disconnected body with a nose pointed onto a figure, while the hind legs flail around and the rib cage collapses.
A poorly done circle is a plywood board that someone is attempting to pound softness into, by pulling pieces and parts around

A well done circle is a masterpiece, a thing of beauty
A well connected body, straight on a curve

But the horse has to know how to turn with the shoulders, and to keep the hind legs behind them
A horse has to learn how to keep their neck center
A horse has to know how to expand the rib cage to the outside
A horse has to know how to stretch the outside of the body

That’s no small feat, and it’s quite the athletic endeavor, not to be taken lightly, and nothing to flop around on mindlessly

A circle deserves our respect, awareness, and time put in to develop it well
