Uff! The fireworks were especially loud this year in our neighborhood. Did you and your dog make it through the night?

My dog started to say, “What the heck?” at about 10 pm after 5+ hours of loud booms, even with the treat pouch out and food rewards being strategically doled out to create positive associations.

Our fantastic team member and friend, Victoria Hohlfeld is off to Hawaii where she will take on the role of Behavior Manager at the Hawaiian Humane Society on Oahu! I will miss her deeply and am thankful for all her dedicated work with clients and Wag the Dog as a team member.

Victoria’s passion for sharing her education and empathic life mottos of ‘When you know better, you do better.’ and ‘Dog training is something we should be doing with our dogs, not to them.’ will be missed, is what makes her the perfect fit for her new role.

We expect updates on your adventures on the island with your new 2- and 4-legged friends. Aloha, dear friend.

If your dog displays any of the following body language signals during loud sound events, they need your support.

- Shaking or trembling
- Pacing
- Panting
- Whining
- Hiding
- Seeking your support through body contact or licking
Even if your companion has anyone show one or two of these in the past, get support now. They will not just figure it out and eventually feel okay. Unfortunately, they do not have the capacity to reason like us. Heck, even with our big brains, we can’t talk ourselves out of scary past events sometimes.
Don't wait until the last minute! Put it on your to-do list today. Your dog and your clinic staff stay thank you

Una was able to get enough space to catch the frisbee today for the first time. Our own yard doesn’t have enough open space to get air for a good toss or space for her to run. In comes our EXTRA LONG long line at our neighborhood park for the win!!!
