This year we have been busy and we are getting busier. We trapped over 2,300 cats so far this year. However we are still in a backlog. We have 80 jobs and 600 cats so we start Trap-A-Thons on June 3rd.

This has been a busy year so far. Someone presented a fraululent check on our bank account and this shut us down for 3 weeks. Thank you to everyone for their patience. We will be back into the swing of it by Wednesday.

We found out we trapped over 881 kittens and got them into adoptions. This year is a panleukopenia year. This disease is very contagious amongst cats.

C5 wants to thank you for your patience as this has not been an easy year!

You may remember reading about A Taylor Swift Fan (on the left) - a shy cat who perks up when Swiftie tunes are playing. He's still looking for a home, hopefully with a fellow Swiftie, but he'd like to extend his search for a home for two! You see, A Taylor Swift Fan has made a best friend here at the shelter - Peanut Butter Jelly! These two can be seen snuggling all day everyday, and they'd love to go home together. Do you have room for these two besties? Come visit them during open hours Monday-Friday from 11:30am-3pm or visit neas.org/adopt to book an adoption appointment on nights or weekends.

We have SO👏MANY👏DOGS👏! We have over 80 dogs (and puppies) waiting for homes from our adoption centers. We’ve got lots of large breeds, like Pepperoni here, who are just good, sweet happy doggos! Help spread the word that we need help moving these pups into great homes. Check out our stories to get “up close” with just a few of our adoptable pups!

If you’re looking for a sweet, mellow, big boy cat, look no further. Bloop’s steely-eyed gaze and disproportionately high pitched little mrow will melt your heart. He’s tall, he’s mature but still full of life, and he is super charming - we could get with the times and call him Pedro Pas-cowcat, but Bloop is too good of a name to change. This 8 year old guy is patiently waiting in our Boston Adoption Center to find his new best friend. What are you waiting for? Go to our Boston Adoption Center Tuesday-Sunday 12-3 and scoop him up!

UPDATE😻
Harley has been adopted!!

We would like to introduce you to a very special boy, Harley! 😍
Harley has had a rough start to his life. He is a little over 1 year old and has, unfortunately, lived most his life on the streets. This lucky guy was trapped and then discovered that he is friendly! He was dumped as a baby but this handsome guy will never have to worry about being alone and cold again!
Harley needs a very understanding family. He can get mouthy while playing (he doesn’t know any better). He loves being petted - to an extend - he will let you know when he is done with pets and needs an adopter that understand that and his recognizes his ques.
He needs a quiet home with no dogs and no children. Harley is doing great in his foster home. He purrs and loves to rub up against his foster parents.
If you are interested in meeting Harley, please visit our adoption event this weekend (Saturday and Sunday) or give our hotline a call and ask to speak to our cat coordinator. ❤️

URGENT: The NEAS and the MSPCA are working to bring 38 more cats from the Humane Society of Naples and the Humane Society of Sarasota County to Massachusetts - on the heels of evacuating cats from FL before Hurricane Ian struck last week. These cats were homeless and living in shelters when Hurricane Ian made landfall in Florida, and their relocation will make much needed space in these shelters for animals displaced by the devastation.

The transport is expected to arrive tomorrow evening, and we need your support to ensure these animals make it to Massachusetts safely. Please consider donating today. mspca.org/florida

If you can’t donate, but want to help, please consider adopting from our shelters to help make space for more animals that need evacuation from hurricane stricken Florida.

This is the 5,000th cat we TNR'd and now 10 years later we trapped the 50,000th cat. Each of the cats and kittens were spay or neutered and vaccinated. The surgery and vaccines helped protect them and extend their lives. Unaltered outdoor cats will live 1-2 years while a sterilzed cat can live to 12-13 years. We are grateful we were able to TNR and provide the feral and stray cats a better life.

Now we need to move onto the next 50,000! We can do this by trapping more and continuing to raise funds to cover the surgery and supply costs.

If you know someone who would be a good trapper share this post with them. They can reach us emailing us at [email protected]

The Saving Pets Challenge ends on Friday 9/30 at 9pm!

Please Donate! If you have donated, thank you and share this post with family and friends.

Mike Ross was stunned to see a cat sitting there all alone. He couldn’t fathom leaving it to fend for itself.

Get those chips!

Silly things like state lines won't stop us from reuniting lost pets and their owners! Daisy arrived at our Boston adoption center this morning for an appointment to be spayed and vaccinated, so imagine everyone's surprise to find she was already spayed, and microchipped. Staff contacted the microchip company and was even more astonished to learn that Daisy's people live in Maine! A couple of quick phone calls later and we were speaking with Ben, who couldn't believe that his cat who had been lost from S**o, Maine since October was somehow at our Boston adoption center. Daisy has been desperately missed, and after nine months her family had all but given up hope that she'd ever come home.

The person who brought Daisy in received her from someone a couple of months ago, and the rest of her story is a mystery. We appreciate her caretaker making the vet appointment that lead to this incredible reunion.

We'll never know how Daisy made her way from Vacationland to Beantown, but a few things are for sure:
Microchips work! Make sure to have your pets microchipped, the MSPCA offers $15 microchips and you can find more info at mspca.org/microchip
If your pet is chipped make sure your contact information is current. Too many pets have unregistered or out of date microchips.

If you find a pet, have it scanned by a vet or shelter so they can be reunited with their owners as soon as possible.

Thanks to a series of unusual events, Daisy is on her way back home where she belongs, with her loving family.

Pet food is desperately needed! Supply chain issues and an ever-present need for support for pet owners in need have resulted in a shortage of dry and canned cat and dog food in our adoption centers and community outreach programs. Visit our Amazon Wishlists today at mspca.org/wishlist to help us keep bellies full – and pets and people together. Thank you!

You may have seen this recent photo of a dog tied to a fire hydrant in Green Bay, and we understand it evokes a strong emotional response. She’s currently in our care serving her mandatory stray hold and is doing great. As her story gains attention locally and beyond, we wanted to take a moment to address Baby Girl’s previous owner directly:

First and foremost, we are so sorry you had to part with your best friend. It’s evident just how much you loved her and we can see you did your best while struggling with your own medical complications and challenges of life. We see your love in the bag you carefully packed with all of her favorite things. We see your love in the way you secured her leash so she wouldn’t get hit by a car. We see your love in the way you placed her in the middle of a neighborhood where she’d be quickly found. We see your love in how happy and healthy Baby Girl looks. And we see your love in the note you left, pleading for someone to help her when you no longer could.

While we’ll never let fees be a barrier and we welcome anonymous surrenders, we see that you did what you thought was best for your beloved pup and we are grateful for your compassion. Rest assured that she’s safe, she’s getting tons of attention from our team, and she’s on track to find her next loving family very soon. We wish you all the best and hope that if you see this, you can rest a little easier knowing your Baby Girl has a bright future ahead ♥

This week we celebrate new beginnings. Many of our shelter pets are getting a second and even third chance to start a new life once adopted. Many of the animals that enter the shelter are adults or senior pets that still have love to give. In honor of new beginnings we are offering 1/2 off adoptions on all shelter pets 1 year and older from April 11th to April16th.

A little x-ray trickery. Completely awake and willing to take part in this x-ray, Sabbath kept still and the toy car was placed underneath her. The alignment is perfect, as it looks like the car is inside her.
