ALL BREEDS welcome! Come out with your BFF (best furry friend) for lots of fun.
Meet Bailey!
Bailey is an 11 pound, five year old black and silver female with natural ears and a docked tail. She was a breeder's dog and we think that Bailey was kept in a cage for much of her life--she doesn't yet walk on a leash and is extremely fearful of humans (she doesn't mind other dogs). She loves peanut butter, being in cozy spaces like her crate and also enjoys sleeping in her human's bed and lounging on the couch. She needs a lot of patience and time to warm up to you but she is now playful with other dogs and toys! She has nipped at men in the past so we think she would be great in an all female, quiet home with another playful Schnauzer or other dog.
Hello Everyone:
This is Bailey and her bio is under her photo. She is super sweet and has come a long way since she has been in rescue the last few weeks. At first she would not leave her bed.
She is housebroken, and needs work on the leash but she is sweet and a beautiful black and silver. She has started to play with other dogs and her personality is coming out.
She needs someone patient to work with her.
Please call Colleen Mooney at 504 236 7765 or email us at [email protected]
if you are interested. If you foster and fall in love with her, you have the first right to adopt before we place her elsewhere.
Thanks, and please pass along to anyone you think would make a good, responsible pet owner! Check out the video of her. She is the one running behind the first dog with
the white beard.
UPDATE!
This girl has been adopted! Thanks to everyone that sent in applications!

Wyatt running in yard
Wyatt is about 5-6 years old and had to have his front leg amputated due to neglect in grooming. His hair had been left to matt and tangle to the point it was cutting off circulation. He was removed from the previous owner's home in an abuse case. He's a happy guy. He gets along with others and loves to chase toys. He's working on getting his energy level up to accommodate moving around on 3 instead of 4 legs and he's doing great! He is ready to give someone a lot of love and companionship. Go to www.nolaschnauzer.com to complete an application if you are interested in adopting Wyatt!
Wyatt is a happy dog who loves to chase toys. He's about 5-6 yrs old and had to have his leg amputated due to the neglect of grooming which allowed matting hair to cut off circulation to his leg. He is neutered, up to date on shots, chipped and would make a great companion to someone and a nice addition to a home with another pet. He needs some TLC and you can apply to adopt Wyat at www.nolaschnauzer.com.
Hi eveyone, my name is Parker and I'm looking for my furever home. I'm a great guy, love playing with toys but even more, would love someone to hang out with and go for walks. My foster mom says I'm just about perfect around the house, I'm housebroken and hang out with the other dogs all day. I'm a little reserved in the beginning but once I get the lay of the land, I will be your best buddy!
Parker is up to date on all his shots, heartworm negative and on preventative, neutered, and microchipped. He is 6 years old, a great dog who deserves a great home, and his foster reports that he is a perfect gentleman, attentive and affectionate, and very good natured. To adopt Parker, please visit our website, nolaschnauzer.com, and fill out an adoption application.

Daisy
Hi everyone, my name is Daisy and I'm looking for my new furever home. I'm about 10 months old so I'm still a puppy and I love to play! If I could have a sister or brother to play with that would be great! My foster mom says I'm really good, I walk on the leash, am housebroke, and know how to sit for treats. I would like someone who can teach me other things too, I like to learn and will follow you everywhere you go!
If you are interested in adopting Daisy, please go to our website, www.nolaschnauzer.com, and fill out an application. One of our volunteers will contact you and answer any questions you may have. Thanks for considering adopting a rescue schnauzer!

We have one more story to share with you, this one is personal as I fostered Benson. People ask "how can you foster and not keep them?" Sometimes it's hard, some dogs really click with you but if you keep them, then you don't have room to help another one. This is Benson's story:
Benson was picked up by local animal control and brought to the shelter. He was found in a part of town where dog fighting is known to occur. He had suffered multiple slashes and stab wounds to his body in what was thought to be an attempt to rile him up and use him as a bait dog. This guy however had the SWEETEST temperament, not an angry, mean, fightened, terrified, or aggressive bone in his body. At the shelter, he was shutting down, laying on a towel, not moving or getting up. I had to drag the towel with him on it into the hallway to put a collar and leash on him, then carefully pick him up because of the wounds on his body and carry him outside. Once in the grass, he started moving and eventually walked around a little. By the time we got home, he was starting to smile and relax. Our vets kept him for a few days to clean his wounds, cut away dead skin, and flush the wounds to make sure infection did not set in. Once back at the house, he could not get enough hugs and pets, and wagged his tail non-stop. He was completely housebroke and had impeccable manners, so somewhere in his past he had a good home. He loved his foster buddies (my dogs) and loved meeting people wherever he went. He is a true testament to how strong and brave these little dogs are. He now has a great home with Lisa and Alex, and has a little sister he adores and plays with.
Your support allows us to help dogs like Benson who was abused and hurt, but never lost his love for life and humans.
Today is #GivingTuesday we are sharing some of the Happy Tails from our rescue.
Paris, now known as Bravo, was picked up as a stray and brought to a local shelter. His left rear leg had an old bandage on it, so tight that it stopped circulation and the leg was not able to be saved. From the looks of him, he was out on the street like this for a while. In spite of the pain and discomfort he must have felt, this little guy was gentle and kind, and quickly warmed up to his foster home and the dogs there. He has a constant smile on his face and loves to get belly rubs. He enjoyed going to the dog park with one of his foster sisters, Bit Bit, and now has a great home with an older sister Bandit, formerly Tilly, who is also a SRL alumni and a tripod. She was found on the side of the road after being hit by a car. Both dogs are part of the Melton clan, a family who have adopted five rescue schnauzers from Schnauzer Rescue of Louisiana!

Buttons, now known as Buddy, was an 8 month old puppy who was turned into a local shelter after his owner could not afford the medical care to repair a broken leg that he received after falling off of a balcony. He was also in need of a good grooming. Many people do not understand that schnauzers need regular grooming as their hair grows quickly. Our vets reset his leg and inserted two pins to hold the bones in place. This type of injury was repairable as the break was clean and very recent. The recovery for this type of injury is a minimum of three months of restricted activity - kennel around the house, and on the leash outside the kennel to go out for potty. No playing, no walking except for going to the bathroom, no running, and no weight to be put on the leg during this time. That's a lot to ask of a young puppy who wants to play and run and get all the attention from everyone around him. Rescue found Buddy a great new home where his parents Denyse and Steve are doing a great job spoiling him during this recovery time. Next month he will go back to the vet and have the larger of the two pins removed. He has a new cousin, Leo, who comes to visit and they love to sit in the back yard, Leo is a mellow dog so he helps keep Buddy quiet.

Faith was rescued from a backyard breeder near Folsum, LA. She was kept in a cage with a tarp for the cover from the elements. Once in her foster home, Faith quickly learned the joys of being an inside dog and loving the attention and treats. Underneath all that hair was the sweetest most affectionate little girl. She was adopted by a loving couple, Mary and Tony, and shares her home and toys with her big brother Mikey, a maltese.

Shaggy, now known as Mr. Feisty, came from a rural high-kill shelter that, to this day, is still not open to the public. No information was known about him except that he was picked up as a stray. Underneath all those mats and hair was quite the handsome guy, and extremely well-mannered. Somewhere in his past he was well treated but as can be seen by the 'before' picture, he had been neglected for quite a while. Thankfully he was heartworm negative and just needed a good bath and groom and some antibiotics to clear up his skin, in addition to the standard vetting, neutering, and microchipping that all our dogs receive.
He has a wonderful home with a great family who takes him for car rides and spoils him.
