After 35 years and having placed over 6000 greyhounds into loving homes, the Greyhound Adoption Center has ceased operations, transferring its assets to Greyhound Friends for Life (www.greyhoundfriendsforlife.org), Greysave (www.greysave.org), Fast Friends (www.fastfriends.org), Operation Greyhound (http://www.operationgreyhound.com), and the San Diego Humane Society (www.sdhumane.org). Support co

ntinues for our adopters through our toll-free number, 877-HOUNDSAVERS (877-478-8364), and through Greyhound Friends for Life. If you have any issues, questions, or concerns, be sure to let us know. We will continue to celebrate our beloved greyhounds through our page, and we always welcome your pictures and updates! Harry Pawter (GAC’s Trevor) and Grass. White and black greyhounds are often referred to as 'cow dogs'. Harry takes this term to heart and always finds a nice patch of grass to munch on during walks. When a piece gets stuck in his teeth, his pawrents refer to him as Farmer Harry 😉💚

One of the walkers shared: “Great group at Balboa Park today. Duffy, in the red vest, is adoptable through Operation Greyhound. Mako visited from Texas. The rare, short spotted “Greyhound” was adorable. Fun in the sun!”

🐾🐾 If you’d like to attend in the future, this is a weekly walk. “Greyhound owners and lovers! Bring your greyhound for an enjoyable weekly walk in San Diego's lovely Balboa Park.

“We gather at the lawn at the end of Presidents Way (in front of the federal building that used to be the Hall of Champions) between 10:00 AM and 10:15 AM every Saturday. The walk is a leisurely stroll through Balboa Park (about a mile total) with three stops (in front of the organ pavilion, the botanical garden, and the Fleet Science Center fountain). All are welcome!

“Unless there is a special event, there is usually plenty of parking in the first lot to your left off Presidents Way. It is a short walk across the lawn to our meet up place.”

READY FOR A WALK? 🐾🐾 Check out these sighthound walks across California (and let us know if there are more to list). One-time events/walks are listed first; weekly walks are listed further down. Happy New Year and Happy Walking 🐾🐾❣️

CERTAIN WALKS WHICH HAVE BEEN CANCELED ARE STARTING UP AGAIN 🐾🐾 - Please check the following weekly walks to see when those which had been cancelled will resume 😀

🐶 If your dog has any of these symptoms listed below which could be due to the aCIRD illness:
a. cough
b. nasal discharge
c. sneezing
d. runny eyes
e. lethargy
PLEASE do NOT bring them to any walks or elsewhere that other dogs may get exposed. We direct you to your veterinarian for any specific questions regarding your own dogs.

🐾🐾 EVERY TUESDAY in VENTURA, 6:00 PM - Ventura Community Park, 901 S. Kimball Rd., Ventura, CA. “Join other Greyhounds in the area for an evening stroll. We meet in the parking lot just north of the entry road. If this is your first time joining, please contact organizer (Helene Buchman - [email protected]) for details. **THERE IS A WHIPPET IN THE GROUP IN CASE YOUR HOUND IS NOT SMALL DOG TOLERANT.”

🐾🐾 WEDNESDAYS in IRVINE, 6:00 PM - Weekly Wednesday Walks with Greyhounds around the Woodbridge North Lake. “We meet every Wednesday at 6PM (weather dependent) in Irvine, CA, in the Lakeside Plaza on the Southeast corner of Lake and Barranca. Bring your hounds, your friends, your family. Also bring p**p bags (while there are some stations around the lake, sometimes they get raided and there aren’t any). We typically park in the open space in the center of the parking lot, as the driving school tends to drive pretty quickly around the edge of the lot. just trying to keep everyone safe. While slightly belated, we hope that everyone may enjoy pictures from the Sacramento Sighthound Social Club’s Historic Home Sighthound Walking Tour of the Fab 40's held in Sacramento on December 23, 2023. From the walk organizer: “What a wonderful day walking with friends in the Fab 40's and seeing all the holiday decorations. It was an excellent opportunity for some festive photo ops. What a perfect final walk of the year and the residents seemed to enjoy it as much as we did.” 🐾❤️🐾

Greyhound Adoption Center alumni greyhounds who attended included Wonka (GAC’s Calvin), Pumpkin (GAC’s Seager), Demi (GAC’s Moore), and Allie (GAC’s Bumi). They joined many fellow sighthounds including borzois, galgos, whippets, a saluki, a sloughi, a silken windhound, and non-GAC greyhounds on this lovely walk 🥰

Little Man being less apprehensive of water definitely got the hang of it! Sarge really disliked his ears getting close to the water so once he had the donut on he did a little better but preferred to float. :) With Little Man’s old injury and both of their age we’ve been wanting to try it out and possibly add this into their routine on a monthly basis! The facility and techs were awesome!”

Macy’s (GAC’s Marsala’s) family got weave poles for the dogs and set them up for the first time. The expectation was not that the greyhounds would weave through the poles when they’re in a straight line (as that’s harder), but just that for their first experience they would be able to be coaxed to walk between them. Finnick (GAC’s Finnick) was a natural, while Tre (GAC’s Tre) did okay, too. Macy on the other hand jumped over two dogs in their beds rather than considering the weave poles, but in the end she was talked into doing a tummy crawl between the poles 😆 She was a brave girl to try this new challenge 🤗❣️
