This adoring sweetheart with the most soulful eyes was named Milly. I was asked to paint her last year by my friend Stacy for one of her dear friends who had to say goodbye to her faithful companion.

It is my hope that these portraits restore core memories that you have shared with your beloved animals. I desperately wish I could bring them back to you, but because I am unable to do that, I aim to make you something that will always remind you that you had this incredible animal and friend in your life. ❤️

It’s PINK FRIDAY! Yay!!! 🎀💖💕💝🩷

It’s a wonderful day to visit a small business near you! I know it’s an especially great day to swing by because they have a sale on clothing, free gifts with purchases (✨while supplies last), and an opportunity to be able to win an amazing gift basket🧺. You’ll also find items like this little sketch of mine available for this holiday season. 💖

Your support of small businesses is incredibly appreciated! 🫶🎀💝

I was asked to paint this beautiful dog named Baxter for my Aunt Marilyn’s son, Brian last year for his birthday.

From what I hear, Baxter was such loyal companion to Brian and left paw prints on his heart. 🐾

Thank you to Aunt Marilyn and Uncle Ron for giving me this honour to create a memorial picture of Baxter. 💙

I have many muses! My good boys, Jack Slinks and Sawyer Bear are muses obviously, but 2 of my muses happen to be adorable Goldendoodles. ❤️If you follow my page, you know I’m a fan of our local shop dog .
❤️The other Goldendoodle in my life is my cousin’s ( ). This is a sketch of my cousin’s Wallace that I drew over the summer for a daily challenge.

Let me tell you! She’s a character and I love her expressive eyes! Her best buddy in all the world is celebrating his 2nd birthday today (Happy Birthday, Keeegan!!!🚙🎉🎂🥳😘). I can imagine two scenarios going on at the moment.

1. Wallace is either pouting on top of the couch (that she’s not even supposed to be on) because they are not celebrating her birthday.
- or -
2. She is being a first rate rabblerouser among Bert & Ernesto during the party preparations while simultaneously plotting a way to devour the cake before the guests arrive.

Place your bets! Let me know in the comments if you would put money on option 1. Or 2. !

For today’s I thought I’d post a painting of a sweet dog named Finn that I painted in 2019. This was arranged as a Christmas gift by the Francoeurs. It was such a privilege to paint this dear boy and to meet John and Charolette. They have been such encouraging supporters of my work ever since. Every time I see their grand-dog Finn’s painting on my phone, I have such fond memories of working with them on this project for their family. Thank you for this experience, John & Charolette. 🥰

Tongues Out Tuesday!

When I made the decision to focus on painting dogs and cats, I never would have imagined the amount of tongues that I would paint. Artists that paint people RARELY paint tongues—I guess this is the cross I have to bear! 😂

This little playful pup in the water is Queenie! I loved painting her for Mark and Cyndie Hektner this past year. Thank you, Mark and Cyndie 🥰

Happy Halloween, friends! Jack and Sawyer were especially happy that I didn’t make them wear “stumes” this year! Since there weren’t any dogs on the balcony during the Trooping the Colour 🇬🇧 I’m not sure what they would have been—maybe a couple of Corgis…or maybe Prince George and Prince Louis???

Hope you all had a fun day! 🎃🍁🍂

This was my first layer of Aiden’s portrait. For about 2 years I’ve been trying this method of an underpainting called grisaille. This is where I concentrate on only the shading values of the painting. I turn the reference picture to grayscale and focus on painting the darkest shadows with a dark raw umber and then lighten up the lightest areas by either wiping away the paint with a towel or by adding a little titanium white. I love working on this stage of the painting. There are no finishing touches at this point and it gives me all the freedom to mess up and make mistakes. Sometimes it’s these early versions of the portrait that I love the most.

The lovely Shelley Ghrist gave me the honour of painting this trio back in 2017 as a gift. I know I’ve posted the painting several times, but I don’t think I have ever posted the original reference photo for you before.

I’ll share some thoughts with you about this one. You’ll see there were some decisions made to leave couch out of the background and you can see that the dog in the back is a lot taller than he should have been.

A tiny photo of my painting of this crew hangs in my bathroom and I often look at it while I am brushing my teeth. Needless to say, I have had a ton of time to scrutinize it over the years. For the most part I still love how it turned out even though it’s not perfect. I know I painted it over the winter of 2017, but the colours are so autumnal and remind me of cozy blankets, hot cider, and caramel apples. 🍂🍁 It’s giving autumn for sure.
I often wonder why I didn’t try to include the vintage wallpaper. That would have been pretty…also difficult. Okay, now I’m recalling why I didn’t include the wallpaper. 🤣

I have several clients from Florida that have hired me to paint portraits for them over the years. These two paintings were commissioned from one of them. My heart has been with my family, friends, and their pets in Florida as they have been confronted with two terrible storm fronts. To those of you who have been affected, I hope you and your family are safe from harm. Please let me know if you or someone you know is in need of support.

The first painting is one of Puppy Shadow that I painted last year and the second slide is of her big brother Bruno and his favourite toy elephant named Bubbles that I painted for Christmas 2023. Thank you, Mary Jo for this opportunity. I hope all is well❤️

Haven’t done a in ages!

I found this picture from 1998 framed when visiting my cousin, Brittany this past summer. It was so sweet to recall this memory with our Gram & Pop-Pop and our Pepper Girl. I only have a couple pictures of Pepper, so every one I find is a rare treasure to me.

Our Story

My first official painting of a pet was my very own German Shepherd. Her name was Snickers. She was such an amazing friend to me and was like my own protective shadow. She also had the most beautiful eyes that were defined in jet black fur as if she was wearing dramatic eyeliner. Even now as I type, my eyes fill with tears as I remember her loyalty, the unique personality of her essence, and how much I miss her. I realized that others may be wanting to represent the bond of friendship that they have had with their dog or cat, so I began to paint custom portraits. I absolutely love hearing stories about these little characters and have thoroughly enjoyed creating something special for each one of my clients. If you would like to place a custom order of your pet's portrait, please send me an image or two of your pet in a private facebook message or email me at [email protected].

I can also be found on Etsy at www.Etsy.com/shop/lapinedesign Additionally, If you don't see the option that would like below, feel free to start a conversation with me and I will create a custom order for you with the dimensions you request as well as answer any questions you may have.
