I was thinking earlier today about how grateful I am to spend so much time doing what I love and growing as a rider. I thank God regularly for all the opportunities I have been given. When I was putting videos together today of all the fun Iâve had I found this song and had to use it. I will keep counting my blessings knowing I canât count that high.
Fall trail rides are the best. Leaves crunching under foot, cool weather, lots of pretty colors. #trigger #fall #lovewhatido #horses #trailride
Iâm always grateful everytime I step foot in the saddle but every now and then as I ride I feel the pure joy I felt as a kid as I ride around. No worries as to if my horse is performing right or if my equitation is at its best, just the pure joy of sitting on a horse.
Every liberty horse is going to leave at some point. Itâs just a fact. It doesnât matter that theyâve left what matters is how you react and how you ask them to come back.
Trigger and I decided to up the liberty challenge by going out in the 65 acre pasture. He knew he was free and could decide just how long to stay with me. He had super high spirits as he danced around and looked at everything in new eyes now that he was at liberty. Eventually the energy got to him and he took off running and bucking. I watched him go laughing and then went to find him. This is how he came back. He was hanging out near his buddies and as soon as he saw me calling he came running. Iâm glad heâs enjoying himself!
I decided to spend 10 minutes with Walker this morning to teach him how to do the reverse-reverse change of direction. This is where I ask him to reverse his direction away from me and then come back to me. Why is it a complicated trick? Because you give your horse permission to turn away from you and they may decide to keep going.
I always start on the line and spend a while teaching them that way. The line helps with guiding them so they donât get confused about where youâre sending them. Walker spent about 5 minutes on the line and I had to try at liberty. As you can see we need a little more practice because heâs a touch confused without his guide line but overall not bad!
I am enjoying getting back to working my boys at liberty! And arenât they just awesome together!
I put them in the small paddock today to start with some light liberty work and they did great. Trigger stayed with me the entire time, Walker wandered off once but came back quickly. They struggle when theyâre on the outside and canât see me as well and with pushing each other to get closer to me. We worked on some walk and trot circles, reverses, and ended with the stop cue and calling them both to me. Watch below and let me know what you think!
Loping around bridleless on the best boy!
Trigger Liberty Work July 11, 2022
Trigger and I took a break from liberty to focus on training undersaddle. Itâs time to get back to playing and having some fun! Donât yâall wish your horse was as cool as mine?đ
I am so proud of these boys! Itâs been at least a month since we worked together and probably a year before that. And they came out like champions and we even kicked things up a notch into a jog! Love love love these horses for putting up with me!
