One year ago Packwood was a ghost town. The Packwood fire was a nightmare for everyone living here.
This year we have the Cowlitz Complex on the other side of town and Packwood is our normal little bustling town.
Why?
We learned. We got agent help fast.…. But we forget.
I had a little lady come into the Morton Post Office and mail 3 cards. She wore a Rocky Mountain Incident Management sweater. I thanked her for what they are doing. She graciously Welcomed me. Then began to tear up. She had lost 3 family member the previous week, and she wasn’t home. She was tired. She was lonely, wanting the comfort of her loved ones.
Let’s not forget the individual people who put their lives on hold to work hard so we can continue on in our normal way.

The last of the Honey x Bear pups are making their public debut!
Born Dec 18, with a high temp of 13 degrees, and Dan and I were laid up with COVID.
2 Brindle females, 1 Dutch male. As you can see, they are the stout, hardy type. Calm, smart, and definite Bigfoot’s.

Meet Elk Run’s new little man Charlie.

He is a cute little rascal, full of energy and s***k. Already learning to bark at strange things, even if these strange things are Dad’s feet!

He has 2 sisters also. Raven a dark mostly black brindle, and Brynn a lighter possibly gray brindle.

Just added 2 more charges for Honey and Bear. Laverne and Shirley have joined the menagerie. Lots of sniffing, and instructing that they are “Mine”. They seem to be happy the buns are here, and have settled in to their posts.

This handsome dude wants his own herd.

He is very low key and non reactive to hs chicken neighbors. Knows goats and goat behavior. Has been soaking in appropriate LGD behavior from mom and dad.

Meet Freckles!
He is an AKC Registered Anatolian Shepherd looking for a herd of his own.
He was born in the goat pen, sharing a fence line with chickens. At 9 weeks he is non-reactive to either.

His parents are onsite and are training him to guard against mountain predators in Packwood Wa.
Freckles will have his 3rd round of puppy shots and be ready to go after Aug 8.

During these uncertain times of supply chain issues, and food shortages your herds are more valuable than ever, and deserve a guardian to keep them safe.

Hello! My name is Lucy. I’m a 6 week old AKC Anatolian shepherd. I live with Mom and Dad a bunch of brothers some loud chickens next door, a goat, barn cats and a bouncy Jack Russell.

Im learning to be a brave guardian for this place called Packwood Wa. There are lots of predators here. Im learning about their smells so I remember when they come back around. The only ones that keep coming back are a bear and raccoons. I know their smells.

I watch Mom and Dad use their big barks to scare them away. My bark is still small, but I practice it and someday it will be big!

My neighbors the chickens taught me to never stick my nose through their fence. They pecked my nose hard. I’ll never do that again! Im just supposed to walk around the outside of their pen and sniff the ground to make sure nothing has been close.

Mom is also teaching me to watch the sky for big birds. She says really big ones could take a chicken or one of us away. (I wouldn’t mind it if they took a brother away if you know what I mean. They can be a pain, but I don’t let them push me around just cuz I’m a girl! I let them have it!)

The lady that cares for us says im beautiful and smart and im a good girl. I think I have really big feet and I get tangled up in them sometimes. I want a place of my own to guard, with my own animals. I know what to do and I’m a brave girl. I need to grow into my feet and I’ll run like the wind towards a predator and let them know whose boss.

Looks like we have 3 little girls and 5 little boys. They are getting to be plump bumpkins!
Mom gets out and stretches more often, and leaves Dad to babysit.
