Thank you all who donated to Judah to help him build back his business. He bought fencing to make a safer place for the chickens to range. However with sudden passing of Judah’s grandfather we have not yet built the fence. Unfortunately it seems the fox has gotten quite a few more chickens including Judahs favorites Trudie and Quasimodo. We will proceed with building the fence but it may be awhile. At this point we may wait till spring to add more chickens. Judah loves his chickens and loves seeing his customers. He is proud of his business and the family will help him to rebuild it. We will keep you posted. Thanks for all the support. Judah and his family.

Hi friends of Judah and Lay’s Eggs. We are sad to report about half the flock were destroyed by a fox. Fortunately Judah did not see it or the aftermath. The fox got the majority of the younger chickens that were the main egg layers. The remaining chickens are older and not laying many eggs. For now it’s sporadic. We will try to keep our regular customers supplied. Some of Judah’s oldest chickens are still around and bring him such enjoyment. (Little Trudy, Grandma Bush, Quasimodo, and Gregg the III). We are trying to decide when to build the flock back up again. It may be spring. But we will let you all know. Thanks for all the support for Judah! He has learned so much from this. Hard to believe he is 16 now!

“No eggs again! Time to get to work chicken! “-judah 😎
Judah signs this to the chickens every day. This has been an extra long molting season. Many of our egg farmers friends say are experiencing the same thing. We appreciate your patience and will let you all know as soon as the chickens a “get to work”!

Here is some good information to explain chickens molting. Judah’s are having a long molt this year. They are all healthy. He is a little distressed when he goes to gather eggs and there are none or only a couple. We explain that chickens need a break too. Thanks to all you customers for your patience during this season! There will be plenty of eggs soon! Judah has about 50 hens!

Many people wonder when do chickens molt? Molting, the chicken pundits tell us, is supposed to happen in either spring or at the end of summer as we slip in to fall weather and shorter days.

HELP SPREAD THE WORD!

Prior to Covid, Judah’s business was booming. He was struggling to fill all the orders, so we helped him double his flock. Then Covid hit. His customer base drastically dropped and is still struggling to recover. He is not even selling the amounts he sold before. But, the chickens don’t care about lowered customer numbers. Now that it’s spring we have twice the chickens laying twice the eggs! We collected six dozen in two days!

We have some generous customers who pay for a couple dozen a week for donation to food pantries. We also donate quite a few. At this point though, Judah’s goals for saving money are tabled and we just need to cover costs of keeping the chickens well-fed with clean coops. One of Judah’s life goals is to continue his chicken farm. He continues to learn a lot and more independent all the time.

Please share and order if you can! We deliver! Ask us about delivery days and locations. Thanks!!!

I like when we hatch eggs. It is fun to see baby chicks coming out of the eggs. You have to keep them warm for a long time. My Aunt Elizabeth asked me if If I would share eggs with a classroom so they could hatch eggs. I said yes! She sent this movie of the chickens hatching! -Judah😎

This last year has taken a toll on Judah’s business. With the onset of Covid, we greatly paired down our deliveries to new customers. Then, in winter, the chickens don’t lay as much. Some of his customers have also moved. So now, Judah has an extremely small customer base.

We are now ready to schedule deliveries in the Leavenworth, Lansing, Kansas City, Tonganoxie, and Platte City areas. Right now, Judah has 34 dozen eggs washed and in the egg refrigerator ready to go. Plus, he collected over 49 eggs tonight! Please consider buying from him so he can continue to meet his goals and build his business. Please share his page with your friends. He has some family friends who have decided to pay for two dozen eggs a week to be donated to food pantries. If you would be interested in something like this, please let us know. We are helping Judah to take the next step of learning to pay for the food and care of the coops as well as earning spending money. Thanks!

JUDAH’S JOURNEY: THE BEGINNING #2 - As Judah’s mom Kim and the family learned more about caring for the 6 chickens, Kim noticed how interested Judah was in helping. She taught him to help feed and water the chickens. He loved to let them out on the mornjng and watch them run out of the little coop. Friends gave us a rooster and another friend gave us three more hens. Hawks took a couple of the chickens. Kim began teaching Judah to collect the eggs. She recognized his talent and love caring for them and a dream began for his future. The seeds were planted for the development of his chicken farm which later became “Lay’s Eggs”. From here on out Judah will post memories of his journey. Stay tuned!

JUDAH’S JOURNEY: THE BEGINNING #1-Judah discovered chickens when he and his mom Kim went to a gathering with friends. He saw the chickens and was fascinated. Judah laid down by them and didn’t want to leave. When they moved to the country in 2017 they were gifted with a small chicken coop, 6 chickens and no experience in raising chickens. Judah was ecstatic!

Two days after Judah bought the feed it was dry enough to pull the truck in to unload. This is his first time helping with the pulley system. Watch his face as he gained more confidence! Tomorrow we will share a post that will start at the beginning of his love of chickens.

Saturday Judah went for the first time to buy 700 pounds of chicken feed, paying the $142 himself with money he earned selling eggs! He was
so proud!! He has come so far since his journey as a chicken farmer began in 2017! We thought it would be nice to post a little memory everyday to share with old and new friends of Lay’s Eggs. So many of you have had a part in his accomplishments! Stay tuned!
