Well folks, we started our big campaign to try to inspire all the property management companies in Michigan to allow cats to keep their much needed toe bones and claws and not be declawed.
Today we found out why this may be very difficult but we will give it our best effort.
Thanks to many of you who are sending us tips.
Today we respectfully reached out to one of these apartment complexes in Michigan that requires declawing. We asked the manager why they require cats to be declawed and she said, “To protect our carpeting and our walls.” 🙀😿
We asked her if she knows about the latest studies and information about how inhumane declawing is.
She said, “It’s inhumane to have our furniture wrecked and we have…(she paused)...not our furniture, our carpeting and our walls wrecked when people move out and we have to refurnish it.”
🙀😿😿😿😿😿😿😿
We also asked her if she understands how declawing harms a cat and she interrupted and rudely said,” I don’t really understand or care to understand, I just know what our company policy is due to the numerous damages that we’ve had from people who brought in their cats who weren’t neutered or declawed.”
She said that she will not change the rules.
So we’ve sent an email to the property management company for this apartment to see if we have any better luck. Thankfully we found that all of this company’s other apartments in Michigan do not require cats to be declawed and they say that if there’s any damage, then the $200 pet deposit will be forfeited for the repairs. A few of them also said they don’t require it because it is inhumane.👍🏻
If you know of any apartment complexes in Michigan that require declawing, please send us an email to [email protected]
Make sure you put Michigan apartment in the subject line. Also if you can send us the contact information about the company who owns the apartment, that would be helpful.
