Traveling with a furry friend made easy! A few tips to make traveling with your pet a breeze

On travel day, be sure to get to the airport extra early so you don’t feel rushed or stressed. After you’ve finished reviewing your paperwork at the check-in desk, you’ll head to security.

Before tending to your dog, deal with your shoes, liquids, laptop, and other items. Then, remove your pet from the kennel and put on their collar and leash. Using a plastic collar and leash means you will not have to remove it to go through the metal detector with your pet. After you and your pet are scanned, immediately put your pet securely back inside their carrier. Be sure to read up on the TSA’s rules around dog food, especially if you want to bring a little wet food in your carry-on bag.

After clearing security, find the pet relief area for one last stop before flying. When you arrive at your destination, take your dog to a pet relief station and be sure to give them lots of praise, cuddles, and treats.

No more for your ! With a few simple steps, you can help your pup feel relaxed and comfortable when it comes to their carrier.

1. Be sure that the carrier is the right size. Can your pet stand up, turn around, and lie down?
2. Hide treats in the carrier. When you're introducing your dog to their carrier for the fit time, hide treats inside so they have a positive association with the carrier.
3. Allow your dog to explore the carrier with the door open. Don't close the carrier door the first few times the dog is inside.
4. Practice daily with your pet and their carrier until they're comfortable. Keep trips short until your pet is relaxed and comfortable.

Travels in the carrier don't have to be RUFF. Take the time to acclimate your dog so they are comfortable and there is less stress for you both!

At least a week before your planned travel, keep the carrier open in your home for pets to explore and use in a low-stress situation. Then, when you're ready to travel, pets will be acclimated to the carrier and feel safe on the road.
