Patience paying off with loveable scaredy-cat Lucky, who tried to eat me on day one. I think we are best friends now, plus after one good correction on the prong collar (for trying to lunge at a cat) he has not displayed any more aggressive behavior and is probably ready to start the real work of confidence-building and desensitization in the real world. Belated welcome to Timber, who has been with us the last few days for obedience and some behavior modification to help with an interesting mix of timidness and overexcitement. Her abundant excitement responses have unfortunately lead to her getting "happy tail," so we are helping her learn new habits to help decrease the frequency of her knocking her tail on things in her environment. We're confident that Timber will return home with better self-regulation, and an increased sense of security.

Reba the 3-month-old aussie arrived yesterday for a 3-week board-and-train with a focus on obedience, puppy basics, and socialization. We're looking forward to teaching her about the world and helping her grow up into a well-rounded and well-behaved dog.

Doing a great job in low-to-moderate distraction environments, and getting used to focusing on his standards while letting the world just be. It also doesn't hurt that this fluffy dude loves working for food!

Atreus doing a wonderful job during his field trip today. Heel is getting more reliable, compliance getting better, and now we are building up confidence and desensitizing to the world. After taking care of his unwanted behaviors, we are seeing a dog that is flighty and unsure about the things going on around him, and his role in them as well. By setting clear rules and leading him through new situations, Atreus should do a lot of mellowing out and become more and more reliable in any situation.

Atreus riding solo to focus on those new kid basics. This big guy is energetic, and strong as hell. Through lots of hands-on time and drills, though, he finally has the idea for heel and expectations in public. Not perfect, but for day two, definitely a stark improvement! Body language has a lot to say. Taji has gradually been coming out of his shell. While it is normal for dogs to be stressed during their first few days of a board-and-train, Taji in particular seemed to really freeze up, lost for exactly how to handle the change of environment and routine. But the difference from his first day to where is is currently is already a fantastic improvement. As we guide him through new situations and lead him through the real world, he is sure to open up even further and be ready to take on the world with his people. 💪

Ah, freedom! Beau goes home tomorrow and we could not be more proud of him. We have tackled so much, from barking to leash manners to off-leash manners, impulse control and separation anxiety. Now he is the absolute dream he was always meant to be, and can even be trusted to keep to his training with or without tools.

Gotta love the pacific northwest 😍 Beau has been working hard the last week and a half! So far he's made strides in compliance in obedience, calm-on-command, manners in public, crate and place, reduced unwanted barking, and much more! He's even been working on off-leash skills including remote recall and leash-free heeling. We have a bit more to work on with some separation anxiety, but where he is now vs. where he was is so impressive! Way to go big guy 🥰

Meet Beau! Beau is a beautiful Bernese boy and a happy-go-lucky guy! But Beau is also about 120 lbs! 😱 His owners said he "uses his weight," and in his first 24 hours of obedience board-and-train with Kimee, we can already see what they mean. Beau is a friendly guy, but has a tendency to use his size to kind of...do what he wants! Over the next three weeks, we will be tackling compliance, teach some new commands and expectations, build impulse control and manners, and work on a few unwanted behaviors. We already have some progress, and are having a blast with this goofy guy so far.

When we do muzzle work, it's important that our own mindset is right. Muzzles aren't punishers or a means of training on their own. They are an added security measure that allows your dog freedom with significantly less risk, both during and after training.
Today we hit the park, where we encountered rowdy and poorly-behaved off-leash dogs, skateboarders, and plenty of people. Rocco did well and kept to his training the entire time, and even got to do a little off-leash work. That simply would not be a possibility in this phase of training if we did not have a way to ensure the safety of Rocco and those around him. You just cannot control the actions of other people, so you control what you can to avoid those actions from causing harm.
As Rocco goes through life after coming home, the muzzle will grant him access to places and experiences that he may otherwise not yet have access to - like being around unpredictable dogs and people on walks and hikes. This in turn will give his owner the training opportunities to continue refining the behaviors we set during his program.

Ohhhh that sniff face! 😍 Rocco goes home in a couple days, and we're very happy with his progress. With awesome in-public skills, newfound accountability, and increased confidence, he has come so far in the last 3.5 weeks. We've made a good dent in his unwanted behaviors and he has become so reliable in his new set of standards, even around higher distractions like barking dogs and excitable humans. (He was even mistakenly called a service dog while out on a field trip, heck yeah!) With a solid maintenance and continued training plan for his owner, Rocco is set to have a great life and access to so much more living!!

Rocco really showing off these last couple days! Kimee has been working with him for a little over one week now, and we are very proud of his progress!!

Rocco getting consistent with the OUT command by practicing with different people and situations. OUT will become the backbone for Rocco's resource guarding by giving him a clear command that means "drop it and move away." This is helpful not only for resource guarding but also situations like getting a hold of an object that could be dangerous to him, playing keep-away with objects, and more. Creating a marker like OUT is also much safer for everyone involved than trying to capture and correct the guarding alone. Through the initial reward-based training, it also gives the dog a better understanding of expectations.

A quick but impactful before and after on Milo's home behavior. Milo's family dealt with him constantly harassing and policing other animals and humans. He would be constantly excited, and even injured people in the home. Milo has been training with us for barely a week and his at-home behavior is already night and day. Now he can relax with the world moving around him, which increases his involvement in his family's daily life and also gives them a sense of peace within their home.
