Too much too soon WILL cause issues.
It is a really common occurrence with newly adopted dogs.

Congratulations on your new dog.
I know you want to take them to the beach, the pet store and your café....however can I ask for a few minutes so I can explain just what your dog has gone through.....and why you need to take the next few weeks SLOW.
Your new dog has had it's whole world turned upside down.
They don't know you.
They don't know if they can trust you.
They don't know if they are with you for an hour or forever.
They may have been in various scary places.
Other houses, rescues, the pound and likely ALL of these in the past few days or weeks.
Your dog has stress hormones surging through their brain, they are STRESSED....they need to decompress, they need STABILITY in their environment and from you.
They need time with you and their new environment.
They need to know that the tree outside may rustle against the house and that's OK.
They need to know that those normal creaky noises in your house are OK and that at 3.45 the neighbours bang their door shut.
They need to know when it rains that tapping sound is OK.
They need to know that when the door opens they won't be moved somewhere else again.
They need to trust that YOU are safe even when you have had a bad day, you will still give them food and that they can close their eyes around you.
You know what your good intentions are with your new dog, your dog however has NO idea what is happening.....only that everything has changed and it is scary.
They do NOT need other new environments yet. Take it SLOW.
Dogs that have just been adopted need TIME. There is no need to rush out the next day and take them to all the places you want to go with them.....They need the opposite.
Let them decompress, let them inspect a new area of your house or yard every day or two. Walk them up and down outside your house for a few days (and only there), let them sniff, and sniff some more. Let them p*e freely.....it may be boring for you, but not for your dog. They need to know what is happening around them and they learn that through their nose, eyes and ears.
They NEED this.
They need to learn to TRUST you.
The long walks can wait, the café will still be there in a few weeks and you can visit the pet shop alone until they are ready.
Your bond together is the MOST important thing to concentrate on right now.
You will never regret taking it slow and it can save your dog and yourself from making the very same mistakes that can lead to people rehoming in the first place.

Belle and Ginger are 6 years old Aussie sisters from the same litter. They have docked tails and both are fixed. They have not been apart and take care of each other. They are from a pure breed mother and father that are used to herd cows in central Ohio. They are located in Columbus, Ohio. They need to be placed together.

Belle
Belle is a beautiful standard Aussie with the black and tan features with a docked tail. She is 6 years old and about 55 pounds. Belle is house trained, crate trained.

Belle is a loving protector, she has a lot of energy and loves attention. She loves belly rubs! She tolerates a leash for walks and protects her toys and will play fetch.

Belle takes time to warm up to other dogs and takes care of her sister. She tolerates the two cats in our house and herds our chickens with no issues.

Ginger
Ginger is a beautiful standard Aussie with white and tan features with the docked tail. She is 6 years old and about 50 pounds and has a medical condition called small eye, she is blind in her right eye, which does not affect her quality of life. Ginger is house trained, loves her crate as her safe space.

Ginger loves everyone, she has a lot of energy and craves attention. She loves butt and belly rubs! She loves her leash and can’t wait to go for walks and is ready at any moment to show you her toys and play fetch.

Ginger enjoys other dogs. She tolerates the two cats in our house and herds our chickens with no issues.

Hi, everyone! My name is Mia, also known as ARPH #14660. an eight month old red tri, spayed and up to date on vaccinations and preventatives. I like balls, tuggy, chase, and love playing in water. I'd be fun to have around a lake. I’m enjoying my foster family; I’m one of those Velcro Aussies. I’ll stick near you if you’re outside and come when I’m called! I love meeting and greeting new people on my morning walks. I’ve been told I’m a very stunning girl so am a great conversation starter on the trail. I enjoy hiking, swimming, and helping in the garden. I’m really up for just about anything. I have a beautiful, easy to maintain Aussie coat of medium length, and I enjoy baths and being brushed- especially if cheese sticks are offered! After a busy day I will settle nicely in the evening and can usually be found close by. I’d be the perfect addition to an active home looking for a fun companion. Although on the moderate side of the energy scale, I do need something to do. Having a playful male sibling would be super for exercise and stimulation. I’m learning better manners, especially not jumping on people or exploring countertops, and how to wait just a little bit for good things. I settle nicely in the car for rides, am crate trained and house trained. I sleep in my crate at night and stay there if I’m home by myself. My foster mom says I’m a fast learner. I know come, sit, down, stay, and I am learning tricks like spin and rollover! I've lived with cats, but dog savvy ones would be best. My vet has a resident cat in the office and when I met her, I went into full wiggle butt mode. Children ten years old and up will be considered. A traditionally fenced yard is preferred, and a training class would be beneficial. If you’d like to see me in action, watch my video.

Barney is a 1 year old, blue merle Aussie who is in need of a home. Barney is house and crate trained. He is up to date on vaccinations, but not neutered. He has been around other dogs and likes to play, but hasn't been around dogs in a while. He is good with kids over 10, cats are unknown. Barney has not gotten enough exercise, or training, as his elderly owner became ill. If you are interested in Barney, please pm me. How about fostering?

The most commonly asked question is, "Don't you get attached? How do you let go of your foster dog?" The answer is yes, we sure do become attached. It can be hard to say goodbye - foster homes put a lot of love and energy into their foster dogs. We always remind ourselves that we are just a way station; we give the dog a soft place to land and decompress until an approved forever home is identified.

Fostering is rewarding for the humans involved, but it is all about the dog and what is best for him or her. Sometimes we meet great adopters but they might not be right for that particular dog. We look out for the needs of the dog. When a perfect combination of adopter and dog creates a love connection, it is magic.

And that is how you change lives.

Bo is a 2.5-year-old male. He was recently surrendered due to needing a better suited family. He will need children to be 6-8 years or older due to his shy/standoffish personality - (he is only like that meeting new people until he can become more comfortable) but small children may overwhelm him. Then you will see a very wiggly and happy side to him. He can live with dogs and cats!

❗️HOARDING CASE - FOSTERS NEEDED ❗️

We've been hit wave after wave with hoarding cases. We have helped with 20+ Chihuahua, 70+ Shih Tzu, and 40+ Australian Shepherd hoarding cases just within the last month.

We need fosters for these 6 unvaccinated Australian Shepherd puppies ARRIVING WEDNESDAY*. They are 10 weeks old and all are females. They can go as singles, though recommended to go in pairs. It is a FOUR WEEK commitment. We will provide all supplies. And the best part? You get first dibs on adoption!

We will have 19 purebred Aussies in our care by Wednesday, a mixture of puppies and adults. The adults will need fosters as well. This will push us over 150 dogs in our care.

*You must be able to attend foster orientation Wednesday 7/10 at 4pm.

Meet ANDI 🩶ADOPTED🩶

He is a beautiful two year old Australian Shepherd mix available for adoption. He is a happy go lucky fella just waiting for a family.

Andi is high strung and would do best in an active household. He has been friendly towards the other dogs here. He will be neutered this month, and he has been vaccinated. He weighs about 45 lbs. Other pets in the household must be spayed/neutered prior to adopting.
