10:30AM UPDATE:
Based on current forecasts and predictions for Hurricane Irma, the following actions are in effect for Citrus County.

1. The Citrus County Board of County Commissioners has declared a local state of emergency and a MANDATORY evacuation of all residents west of Hwy 19, 1 and ½ miles east of Hwy 19 excluding Sugarmill Woods, all of the City of Crystal River, all low lying areas throughout the entire county and anyone residing in mobile homes, manufactured homes and all unsafe structures throughout the entire county. You should evacuate locally, or to a safe location or go to one of the county shelters as a last resort. Please refer to your evacuation plan and ensure that you have all important documents and papers with you when you leave.

2. Shelter locations are as follows: For the general population shelter, go to the Lecanto Middle School, located at 3800 West Educational Path, Lecanto. For the pet friendly shelter, go to the Lecanto Primary School located at 3790 West Educational Path, Lecanto. For those persons registered as Special Needs in accordance with the State of Florida, go to the Renaissance School located at 3630 West Educational Path, Lecanto. West Educational Path is approximately 2.5 miles south of the intersection of Hwy 44 and Hwy 491. The shelters will open today at 2PM. I repeat, these shelters will open today at 2PM.

3. Additionally, the following general population shelters are opening at 4PM today. Central Ridge Elementary School, located at 185 W Citrus Springs Blvd, Citrus Springs. Lecanto High School located at 3810 W Educational Path, Lecanto. Forest Ridge Elementary School located at 2927 N Forest Ridge Blvd, Hernando

4. If you are going to a shelter, bring a small bag with clothing, toiletries, medicine, pillow and blanket or sleeping bag. Pack light with essential items as space per person is extremely limited. For more information on what to bring to the pet friendly shelter, visit sheriffcitrus.org and click on the emergency management tab and then pet.

5. Roadways are congested already and will become even more congested as people evacuate from our county and those coming from the south to get away from the hurricane’s path.

6. DO NOT UNDERESTIMATE THE POTENIAL OF THIS HURRICANE. Citrus County will experience high winds and the potential of great storm surge. Act Now. Evacuate!

7. For more information, go to the Citrus County Sheriff’s Office page or visit sheriffcitrus.org.

8. The citizen information line is 352-249-2775. Do not call 9-1-1 unless it is an emergency.

Sounds good

I'm glad Florida is low on the list, but you can't be too careful. Pay attention to the warnings.

Happy 2017 everyone! It's been awhile since I've posted anything new, been very busy, which is always a good thing. The most recent and exciting reason is that now the "More" in "It's In The Bag Shopping and More" includes Pet/ House Sitting! This is very exciting for me and my love of animals, but mostly good news for you too! I already have several satisfied clients that are happy to be able to take vacations, unfortunate hospital trips, or whatever needs temporarily take them away from their beloved pets. Their pets are in their own homes safe and sound in their own environment. No traumatic transporting, no risk of illness or parasites from other animals, but most of all, one on one love and attention from someone who stays with them while you're away! This service is most valuable to people with multiple pets of all kinds, that thought vacations were out of the question. My current favorite client has one dog, two cats and two horses. I love them! Of course with so many different animals and their personalities it's hard to have favorites, lol. 2017 is already starting to fill up so if you're interested book now. Time slots are on a first come first serve basis. For questions or information call me @ 352-613-4419. Take your vacation with peace of mind knowing your home and pets are in good hands. Have a blessed New Year everyone!

A closed upper level low and an attendant surface low pressure area will persist over northeastern Gulf of Mexico through Tuesday. These weather features combined with anomalously high tropical moisture will support unsettled weather and high rain chances across West Central Florida through the period. Current data suggests that the highest rain chances along with the best chances for widespread heavy rainfall amounts (on the order of 4-6 inches with locally higher amounts) will set up from the Tampa Bay area north into the Nature Coast, where five day total rainfall amounts in excess of 10 inches will be possible, especially along coastal sections of Levy, Citrus, Hernando, and Pasco counties. Given the heavy rainfall threat a Flood Watch remains in effect for Levy, Citrus, Hernando, and Pasco counties through Tuesday morning. Residents and visitors living in flood prone areas or who live along rivers or faster flowing streams should remain alert to any rapid rises in waters levels and be ready to move to higher ground should flooding be observed. These weather features will move away from the area by the middle of the upcoming week with a more typical summer time regime pattern returning to the region with scattered to numerous diurnal sea breeze driven showers and storms expected each day during the afternoon and early evening hours.
