If you ever wonder how much our staff cares about animals while you’re not looking… 👀 Check this out! While on a visit, staff member Jesika rescued an injured bird. Our staff bird expert, Danielle gave her instructions on what to do and swung by to take the bird to the sanctuary to recover where she interns. This is dedication 🫶🏻🕊️

Did you know that flat faced dog breeds {brachycephalic} such as Shih tzu, Pekingese, Brussels Griffin, Boston Terriers, pugs, bulldogs, and boxers are at high risk of heat stroke? Their nasal cavities are so small that they cannot move air in and out sufficiently to regulate their breathing and therefore are prone to overheating. Additionally, puppies and overweight dogs are at risk of heat stroke too. We are vigilant in keeping our clients safe when a heat advisory is in place.

Silliness aside: With the heat advisory still in place for Metro Detroit- it’s important to keep outdoor activities to a minimum. Bloomfield Pet Care will continue to service our clients with caution and care. Indoor play is essential to ease boredom. We often shorten walk times and end up playing indoors for the remainder of the service.

New Staff Alert! We’re excited to have Leah on our team🐾🌸👏🏻~Leah is a student at Michigan State University who has a big soft spot for animals. She has done pet sitting for nearly 10 years, and also worked with dogs in a professional setting. There is nothing more she loves in this world than her goofy goldendoodle and pitbull. In her free time, Leah enjoys pursuing a degree in Psychology, going on walks/runs, and getting cozy with her dog.

Saturday is Caturday {we brush out our kitty clients while in our care}. Cats shed twice a year, usually in the spring and fall, to prepare for the changing temperatures. In the spring, cats shed their heavy winter coats, including their undercoat, to replace with a lighter summer coat. In the fall, cats shed to replace their summer coat with a thicker winter coat. Brushing your cats fur every day will help to reduce the overall hair fall, however shedding of hair is normal and will continue throughout the year. Feeding your cat a high protein, nutritious diet will help to ensure he has a healthy coat of fur.

The ASPCA offers great advice- Bloomfield Pet Care additionally advocates for a “trade” with a dog who has something in its mouth that they shouldn’t have. Never try to pry something out of their mouth without first offering a trade. Dogs are generally food motivated- so a treat most often works to get them to release the item you don’t want them to have. By refocusing their attention, you can safely avoid a bite.
