2020 - where has the year gone?

We all thought 2019 presented even more challenges to previous years but 2020 has bought its own set of new ones as well.

COVID-19, although created uncertainty in the world, it has also given us time to reflect on what has been, what we have and what we can look forward to.

Practicing as a Vet in Northern Australia for many years has seen the industry change in many ways. This has been an interesting time for me and one that I continue to enjoy.

In June 2015, while continuing to operate my Mount Isa based practice , I purchased a third share in the Cloncurry Practice from Donna Webber with two other partners.

In August 2018 I sold my share to the remaining two directors so I could continue to operate my practice from Mount Isa.

In July 2019, after many years operating as a sole trader, it was timely for me to form a company and aptly name it Kick Gate Veterinary Services Pty Ltd.

Pain Relief is now available in an injectable form for cattle for dehorning and castrations and anecdotally we have seen good results with positive feedback. There are a variety of products available on the market and with growing competition between suppliers prices are becoming very competitive and therefore enabling us to provide a better price to our clients

As of the 23rd April 2019 I have been appointed as the Chair of the North West Queensland Beef Research Committee. I would like to thank Dan Lynch for the time and his contribution to this group and I look forward to working with the new committee on issues currently facing the industry

What a year 2019 has already been! There has been some very welcomed rain across many regions with some of these falls breaking records. Sadly, some of these also became catastrophic in some areas.

While this was unfolding, areas west of Mount Isa are still in drought and did not receive the expected rain from the recent cyclone.
