Onion in all forms -- powdered, raw, cooked, or dehydrated -- can break down a cat's red blood cells, leading to anemia. That's true even for the onion powder that's found in some baby foods. An occasional small dose probably won't hurt. But eating a large quantity once or eating smaller amounts regularly can cause onion poisoning. Along with onions, garlic and chives can cause gastrointestinal upset.

Purina Recalls Cat Food Due To Potential Choking Hazard

On March 29, 2019, Nestlé Purina PetCare Company issued a voluntary recall on Muse wet cat food Natural Chicken Recipe in Gravy in 3-ounce cans. The recall was issued after consumers reported finding rubber pieces inside the food.

“The product could contain rubber pieces that are translucent yellow with a blue backing, which may present a potential choking hazard,” said Purina in the notice.

“We became aware of the issue after receiving complaints from pet owners who observed the rubber pieces in the product. We have made changes to our process so this should not happen in the future.”

No illnesses or injuries have been reported.

You can identify the product by the UPC, production code and “Best By” date on the bottom of the can. Purina said no other products were impacted by this recall. “We apologize to our consumers for any concerns or inconvenience this situation has caused.”

Providing too much or the wrong foods early can lead to skeletal disorders that will affect a puppy throughout its life. Growing puppies should be kept lean and well muscled, with their ribs easily felt, but not seen. Proper feeding should be carried out through portion-controlled feeding, rather than free-choice feeding. By the time you bring your new puppy home from the breeder, two or three meals per day are usually sufficient.
