A Purrfect place for Stoke Newington Cats and Dogs. We are a small animal charity with a strictly no-kill policy. We take into our care cats that are injured, old, ill, or disabled as well as pregnant mums and abandoned kittens. Our goal is to rehome all cats in our care but cats that are too ill to be rehomed stay with us in long-t

erm foster care (end of life) and we do all we can to give them love, care, and dignity to the very last breath they take. We also help to rehome cats due to their owner’s change of circumstances or whose owners sadly passed away as well as unwanted dogs, birds and rabbits although their number is less than the number of rehomed cats. All cats in our care are neutered, chipped, treated for fleas and worms, and vaccinated. Although we are a registered charity, we don’t get any funds or support from government organizations so it is very important for us to self-fund ourselves when it comes to the vet bills such as dental, injured pelvis, x-rays, heart ultrasounds, or other life-saving surgeries. Our operation relies heavily on the donations of kind people like yourself. We are also on Twitter

UPDATE! We no longer require a donor for Ursula and she is doing well 😄 Thank you everyone for helping and sharing.

❗️URGENT help needed for little Ursula! We are looking for large healthy cats who could be a blood donor for a cat who is in desperate need for a blood transfusion.

To be considered as a donor, cats should be:
• Fit and healthy
• Between 1 and 10 years old
• Weigh more than 4kg
• Up to date with vaccinations
• Up to date with flea and worm treatments
• Not on any medication
• Have never travelled abroad
• Have never had a blood transfusion
• They can be indoor or outdoor cats
• Enjoy being handled and spending time around people

If you think your cat could be a possible donor please get in touch!
We already know Ursula is blood type B so the donor also needs to be blood type B.

The procedure for being a blood donor involves checking blood typing to see if a match, checking current PCV status and FIV/FeLV screening.
If their blood type matches we can then collect the required amount of blood. In most cases we give mild sedation so your cat is a relaxed as possible. We place your cat on a drip and give a good meal afterwards with lots of fuss! 🥰
There is no charge for being a blood donor.

As you probably remember from yesterday's post, someone found this cat with an injury that is suspected broken pelvis.

The cat is not chipped and not neutered and the initial search for the owner didn't bring any results.

The kind people who found him were considering adopting him themselves however after careful consideration they decided that unfortunately they are not in the right place at the moment for a long term commitment of caring for a cat.

They even considered fostering but again, the logistics are not in their favour so we mutually agreed that this lovely cat will come under Stokey Cats and dogs from tomorrow.

The priority at the moment is to have x-ray done tomorrow to understand what is the actual I jury and wether he will need a surgery or a cage rest or both.

The vet was very kind and generously dropped the x-ray price by nearly half. The new estimate cost is now £300 which we have to pay tomorrow. Needless to say that we don't have the money and we need to fundraise but we are hopeful that with help of our amazing followers and friends we will manage to cover the costs.

We would be extremely grateful for any help no matter how small.

URGENT FUNDRAISING

The recent two heatwaves have been catastrophic for the cats in our care, particularly for the older ones. While fans and air coolers provide some relief, it's not enough...

Sadly, just last week, we had to rush our beloved Blackie to the emergency vet after she began breathing heavily and limping on her hind legs.

At 15 years old, she is quite an elderly cat.

The vet quickly informed us that she has a minor heart murmur and heart arrhythmia. It’s likely that the heat exacerbated these symptoms. She received an injection of furosemide and was prescribed tablets to take home. They examined her chest for any fluid buildup, and fortunately, it was clear, but the vet wants to conduct further tests, including a heart scan on Wednesday.

Although her breathing has improved, likely due to the medication, her back legs remain weak, and she is not acting like her usual self. We are following the vet's advice to keep her cool and calm, ensuring everything is at the same level to minimize her need to walk.

While we have managed to cover a significant portion of the outstanding vet bills, the current treatments and needs are beyond our means, so we are urgently seeking help to cover Blackie's check-ups and treatment. We never abandon a cat, and we didn’t turn our backs on Blackie when she had nowhere to go and was facing euthanasia due to a lack of space. Please help us support this sweet, lovely cat.
