It’s Whelping Wednesday! This week we want to focus on a very special milestone for our little Zero, one of Sally’s Little Nightmares. Zero was born with a leg deformity which caused her foot to be twisted and clubbed. She was unable to properly bear weight, but that didn’t stop this little runt from thriving! Thankfully she was at the perfect foster home with one of our most experienced whelpers, who administered regular physical therapy and stretching in hopes that the leg could be corrected and saved from amputation. We are so excited to share that she now has a weight bearing leg! This sweet little puppy still has some work to do but is doing tremendously better! We are so grateful to have such amazing fosters and a wonderful team of doggie lovers to work through these scary issues! 💚💜 Heartworm Heartache 💚💜 In 2022, we quite literally healed the hearts of 13 dogs, giving them many more years to enjoy their forever homes. Heartworm larvae are transmitted by a mosquito and it only takes one bite to result in a deadly infection. Monthly prevention helps dogs avoid this fate. The worms take up residence in the heart, damaging it, and ultimately killing a dog in a slow, painful death. Once a dog is infected, life saving treatment takes about six months, is extremely costly, and requires the dog to be calm. In the case of two dogs in our care, Helen and Joy, this treatment needed to be repeated. Each heartworm treatment costs approximately $750, including all the follow up visits that need to happen. 💚💜 TRANSPORTS SAVES LIVES 💚💜 As we continue our Give the the Max Campaign week, we'd like to share another way we save lives! Many dogs will be euthanized in the south, but there are great adopters in the North that can welcome these dogs. To make this work, our volunteer transport team coordinates schedules, logs many miles behind the wheel, makes sure the dogs are safe and comfortable for travel, have loving foster homes to receive our newest Healing Hearts Family members. All of these efforts save hundreds of lives a year, and with your help we can continue this important work! Southern states are overpopulated with animals, and we saw unprecedented overcapacity at shelters this year. Many dogs are on death row in the south, but there are great adopters here in Minnesota - we just need to get dogs to their forever families! Healing Hearts saves these lives by transporting dogs from the south, to find their forever families here in Minnesota! Shelby, Chevelle, Chevy, Strawberry, and Loretta waited for their homes in Oklahoma for months, but no adopters came forward. They came to Minnesota and they were adopted within a month or two, three were even adopted by their foster families! Sadly Oaklee had to be rushed back to the emergency vet tonight for labored open mouth breathing. Her X-rays were actually pretty good considering how hard it is for her to breathe so we are hopeful that we caught it early enough. She’s in an oxygen tank kennel and on both IV fluids and antibiotics. If we are lucky she will fight through this like she has been all the other stones being thrown at her. She’s our little warrior princess and we surely aren’t giving up on her! Estimates for the next 24-48 hours are $1500-3000. Any help you can send her way is so much appreciated. Fight hard little girl; we got your back❤️‍🩹 Update: Sunday morning update: We’re so sad to report that Oaklee took a turn for the worse and we had to let her go. 💜🐶💚SPECIAL FOSTER NEEDED💚🐶💜 Our special boy Wobbles is in need of a special foster home. He is the sweetest boy but due to his special needs (Cerebellar Hypoplasia) he has some challenging behaviors that make placement a little harder and we really need your help! He would do best in a home with no other dogs or children. He can meet other dogs outside with a slow intro and do okay but living with one is very hard for him. Same goes for children. He is 100% potty trained and crate trained. He gets around pretty well and has a "get up and go" attitude whenever he might mis-step and fall down. He is mouthy and acts like a puppy a lot of the time even though he is a little over a year old. He has times when he needs his space and will let you know about it with a growl. He would do best with a pack leader that can be gentle but firm with his corrections and help teach him appropriate behavior when he is feeling threatened. He is truly the sweetest boy who just needs some help navigating this world. Please let us know if you have room in your heart and home to help this boy. On June 10, we had our two year anniversary as Healing Hearts Rescue. It's been an amazing 2 years, with so many unusual things going on. Covid 19 has made for a very different time in rescue, but we've banded together and are doing it so well! Thank you, thank you to all who supported this journey in any and every way. FOSTER OR ADOPTER NEEDED FOR WOBBLES

Our special needs boy Wobbles is wondering where his forever family is? He knows they are out there somewhere but just haven't seen him yet. While he is looking for his forever home he is in desperate need of a foster home. Wobbles was born with what our vets have diagnosed as Cerebellar Hypoplasia. He basically is a normal dog except that he is very uncoordinated, hence his name - Wobbles. He LOVES dog parks and loves all people. He is 100% potty trained and also does well in the crate if needed. He would love a fenced yard but not required as long as he still gets enough exercise. He does not do well with full flights of stairs but can do a few stairs with help and can jump up and off the couch. He also lives with a cat and does great. Who can help this special boy by either fostering him or helping him find his forever home?
