💜 Mommas💚

A mother's love is a beautiful and brave thing. That holds true for our momma dogs. It's hard to imagine the circumstances so many of them are coming from. And these mommas do their best to keep themselves safe and protect their puppies. They hunker down in all kinds of undesirable places- in overcrowded shelters, under abandoned houses, among the piles of garbage in landfills. They are singularly focused- survive. And then the incredible network of rescue partners we work with help bring these mommas and their puppies to Healing Hearts Rescue.

Our amazing whelping fosters step up for these families. And the transformation begins— it's no longer about surviving. It's about living. Your donation helps cover the cost of transport, whelping supplies, and veterinary care for our mommas and their puppies, so they can live happy and healthy lives.

While we love puppies, we also understand the strain caused by overpopulation from dogs not being spayed and neutered in overburdened, underserved areas. It's devastating for the dogs and so difficult for the humans trying to help. Your donation can help fund our initiative to support free spay and neuter clinics and help stop the cycle.

💜 Theo, Kodiak, Benji - distinguished gentleman💚

The easiest dogs to rescue are the ones who have the best chance to be adopted quickly, because it is a constant battle of capacity. We are a 100% in-home foster based rescue. This means, if our foster homes are full, or fosters are unable to take in a pup for a little while—Who can we say yes to?

Kodiak was 9.5 years old when he came into rescue in June 2023. A senior husky/malamute mix is not necessarily at the top of the list of dogs likely to get adopted quickly. Healing Hearts Rescue took him in, because what was going to happen to a 9.5-year-old gentle giant whose whole life changed when he lost his human?

Theo spent a decade on a chain outside. Those were his first 10 years of life. Despite that, he was still incredibly gentle and sweet. His life transformed with his foster family. He learned to appreciate dog beds, treats, walks, and learned that human hands were meant for loving him and petting him. This frosty-faced boy deserved to find out what life was like off the chain.

Benji was 8 years old when he came into rescue in 2021. He waited over three years to find his forever home. His foster family waited patiently with him and showed Benji that he deserved to feel safe and loved until he found his people. In return, Benji showed his foster family that dogs are resilient, loyal, and love unconditionally.

Kodiak, Theo, and Benji all found their forever homes in 2024. Healing Hearts Rescue chose these "distinguished" gentlemen because their lives matter and helping them is the mission of our rescue. Every dog deserves to live a happy and healthy life. These boys are a beautiful reminder that it's never too late to start living the good life.

💜 Hailstorm - The Swimmer Syndrome Puppy💚

When Hailstorm was born during a snowstorm, he was a completely healthy-looking puppy. During the first two to three weeks, puppies generally start to open their eyes and walk around. Hailstorm struggled, and that concerned his foster mom. He wasn’t digesting his food or wiggling about like his siblings. He was quickly rejected by his mom. But his Healing Hearts Rescue family never gave up on him. At four weeks, it became more and more apparent that Hailstorm was struggling to walk or even hold himself up. We weren’t sure what was wrong or how to help, but we continued to search for the answer.

Swimmers syndrome is a rare disorder that many veterinarians never see during their careers. Hailstorm saw two separate veterinarians before a specialist at the University of Minnesota was able to definitively diagnose him. Once Hailstorm had a diagnosis, his foster family committed to helping Hailstorm recover. He had physical therapy, required a special brace, and often slept in his foster mom's arms to take the pressure off his chest and keep him on his side. Hailstorm quickly learned to crawl over obstacles. With the help of his brace and massage therapy, Hailstorm was eventually able to stand on all four legs and walk. At eight weeks old, he was completely rehabilitated and running along with his siblings!

Hailstorm made a full recovery and was adopted by a loving family. That would not have been the outcome without an experienced foster mom to advocate for him and a rescue committed to finding the answer. That's what rescue does. That is the mission of Healing Hearts Rescue.

💜 Murray💚

Oh, Murray. Murray, Murray, Murray.

When Murray arrived in rescue, he was scratching at his eyes a lot and seemed really uncomfortable. The ophthalmologist determined that his eyes weren't closing all the way, which was causing dry eye and damage to his corneas. Murray underwent the corrective surgery, but the recovery required a number of different drops, multiple times per day. This made an already painful dog very crabby. Murray became quite reactive to anyone coming near him (Can you blame him?). It took a few months for his eyes to heal, but fixing the behavior was a different story.

Murray has spent the last 7 months learning to trust human touch; learning to love human touch. Allowing himself to be groomed has been the last big hurdle. But he's getting there. You can see how handsome he looks in his pictures.

Murray is a great example of how rescue works, healing the body and the soul. We're so proud of Murray and are excited for him to start his journey to find his new family. Thank you all for supporting his recovery in every way.

💜Buttons💚

Buttons is cute as a button now, but he came to us with a very bad case of mange. Mange is a skin condition caused by mites. When it goes untreated, it develops into painful and itchy skin infections. It's also preventable with monthly NexGard treatments. Buttons didn't have that. So many of our dogs are missing the routine and necessary care every dog needs to be healthy. Thanks to NexGard, medicated baths, and the love of his foster family, Buttons got the relief he needed.

Buttons is an adorable example of how a donation of $25 to $50 helps us provide preventative care (including NexGard), vaccinations, and microchipping that all our dogs need. Every donation makes an impact to help our dogs live healthy and happy lives.

💜Katara & Sokka (AKA The Poopy Puppies)💚

We see so many heartbreaking stories as our rescue partners in the south share the endless need. One such story that really struck us hard was this litter of little puppies being kept in their own f***s day in and day out as there was no other safe place for them to go. It was stuck in p**p or let them loose to be hit on the road by a car. When those are the only choices, we knew we had to try our hardest to give them a new choice - a choice they could live with.

Along with another local rescue, we were able to help these 6 “p**py” puppies and change their lives forever. The two from the litter that we took are now happily in their adoptive homes living their BEST lives! Lives filled with love and p**ping in the grass. Without our rescue partners and foster homes saving babies like this would not be possible. Your support allows us to spay and neuter more adult dogs near our rescue partners in the south to lessen situations just like this. Katara and Sokka thank you!

💜 Mama Kuki.💚

She's something, this one. She and her 4 adult sons were dumped in the middle of the highway. Almost miraculously, animal control was able to get to them and get them safe before any were killed in the traffic. Mama Kuki waited in her foster home for the day she could get her spay and dental done. Spunky and snuggly and full of love, this one burrowed her way into the hearts of all who met her. When she finally got to the vet, they found a mammary mass that needed to be removed and a pyometra!! (In case you aren't familiar, a pyometra is a life-threatening uterine infection caused by the uterus filling with bacteria and puss.)

It was a grueling surgery day, and a bit miraculous that she survived. But she not only survived, she's thriving. Mama Kuki is getting ready to start the search for her forever home, thanks to incredible vet care and lots of love and care from her foster mom. And, of course, the financial support from people like you!

💜 Krystal💚

When Krystal came to us, she was so happy to be rescued. She loved everyone she met. She waited happily in her foster home for her spay/dental appointment so she could begin the search for her forever family. Finally her appointment day arrived. But things didn't go as planned.

The vet called and said she had a hernia that they would need to go back in and repair the next day. So, she spent the night at the vet in preparation for the next surgery. The follow-up call from the vet also wasn't what we expected. The news was not good. The hernia was in her diaphragm, and the damage was too great for them to repair. Her organs were all up in her chest cavity. Options weren't good. We could make her a hospice dog, try and find a specialist to repair the huge hole somehow, or let her go. How does something like this happen? Usually, it's the result of being kicked so hard the diaphragm ruptures. Seriously.

Well, this tiny girl had been through too much for us to give up.
Fast forward to our incredible vet partner who stepped up to try the surgery to save our girl. And she did! Krystal is currently all healed up and getting ready to head to her forever home. Rescue for the win! We love you, Krystal!! 💜

Today's is...Ginger!

Age: Approximately 8 years old
Weight: 10 lbs
Dog friendly: Yes, requires another dog in the home
Cat friendly: Unknown
Kid friendly: Unknown
Potty trained: Yes, does well on a schedule
Crate trained: Yes

** NEEDS ANOTHER DOG IN THE HOME**

Ginger is a sweet quiet lady who loves to cuddle and snuggle in bed. She came into foster with Lucy Lou as their owner passed away. Even though they came in together they don't seem bonded but should have another dog in the home. Ginger is shy at first but warms up quickly and will come to you for attention.

She is potty trained, doesn't like to go up or down stairs, and likes to go for rides in the car. She is easy going and just wants love and attention. She is starting to take treats out of my hand and is a little protective of any treats on the floor. When you are outside and call her name, she will lay down for you to pick her up.

Even if Ginger isn't right for your home, please share her. This sweet senior girl just wants to find a family to call her own. 💚💜

You can learn more about Ginger or apply to meet her on our website!

💜 Roxy blue💚

Roxy Blue arrived in rescue with one eye significantly smaller than the other. It seemed clear that there was no sight in that eye, as she tended to bump into things on that side of her body. So, off to the vet she went. It didn't take long to determine that the eye served no functional purpose. It was a ticking time bomb, though. The vet believed that the damage to the eye was caused by blunt force trauma. Infection could set in at any time. The decision to remove the damaged orb was not a difficult one to make. Once again we relied on our incredible veterinary partners.

Roxy Blue came through the surgery beautifully. Her "Rub my belly" attitude and charm came shining through again by the time she was home from the hospital. Roxy Blue's eye healed well and she recently went home to her forever family. Another success story that couldn't have happened without our incredible supporters.

🚨 Urgent Call for Whelping Fosters! 🚨

We have two beautiful mommas in desperate need of foster homes. They are currently down south where the situation is dire. Without rescue, these mommas will have their babies outside, facing harsh and dangerous conditions. Many mommas don't survive without human intervention during birth, and their puppies are at high risk of dying from exposure or predators.😢

Fostering with Healing Hearts Rescue is free, and we provide all the supplies and support you need. We even have experienced "doggy doula" fosters to assist during the birth. 💜💚

Please consider opening your heart and home to these mommas and their soon-to-be-born puppies. Your help can make all the difference in their lives.

Fill out our foster application if you can help one of these mommas!

💜 Snoop Dog💚

The physical isn’t the only thing that needs to be healed with rescue dogs. Sometimes we need to heal their spirits. Sometimes the circumstances of a puppy’s beginnings don’t allow them to learn how to be a dog, not with other dogs, or people. This was the case with Snoop Dog. Snoop came into rescue with no idea how to live in a home, how to trust people or other dogs. He was so reactive to everything, thinking everything needed to be survived. Snoop needed more than just training classes. He needed full-time immersion in his training. We knew what he needed, and we knew who could give it to him. But full-time training (Board and Train) is more expensive than healing most physical issues. Still, Snoop was so young. He deserved a chance at a healthy life. So off he went for the month.

What an amazing transformation! Snoop Dog still needs lots of exercise, but he is now a functioning member of his foster family. Every day he does better. We know he will continue to learn and grow. And one day soon, he will make some lucky family very happy. Without our donors, we wouldn’t have had the resources to access the training that literally saved Snoop Dog’s life. Thank you, thank you.

💜 Kiara & Dahlia💚

When our rescue partners reached out to us and asked about taking two Great Pyrenees puppies, they told us there was a catch. One of these beautiful 5 month old girls had a bad limp. To say yes meant incurring the vet bills to figure that out, but how could we say no?! Fast forward. The girls arrived and we named them Dahlia and Kiara.

Kiara's vet visit revealed a shattered fibula from a gunshot. Thankfully, this is not a supporting bone, so we were told that Kiara’s injury would not need much intervention. Her body would “wall off” the damaged bone and she would walk normally and pain-free. Yay!

Then Dahlia started limping. The vet found she needed Femoral Head Ostectomy (FHO) surgery for her hip. During the exam, they also discovered a heart murmur. Dahlia has tricuspid valve dysplasia, a congenital heart defect, with a life expectancy of just a few years.

Dahlia underwent FHO surgery and a spay with hernia repair. She's recovering beautifully with her foster family. The vet's advice: let Dahlia be a dog while she can. Healing Hearts Rescue will help her live the best dog life possible. Maybe she'll even find a forever home. Either way, she will be safe and loved.

Rescue involves managing unexpected and difficult decisions. We don't usually know our dogs’ full stories before they come to us. This is where you come in. These girls are spectacular, full of love and joy. Both will lead full, happy lives now, because of your support. Dahlia’s life might be shorter, but we hope for years of joy to come. Thank you for giving us the opportunity to save these precious animals.
